Another dive-ish bar in Edwardsville area. I love this place. Cheap good food, cheap drinks, and live music. There are two parts, a restaurant in the front, and a larger bar with outdoor seating in the back. Looking for a good time with a large group of people? You won't be disappointed.
Review Source:Went here because some co workers told me their burger was better than Red Robins...It was not. It was ok but I would not tell anyone its better than RR's the environment is what it is. Its a Pub with Pub Grub.. Had My expectations not been built up to EPIC proportions I might not have felt so let down... might stop by after a night of drinking... maybe being drunk will erase the aforementioned disappointment...
Review Source:Visited this bar on a recent trip to see my parents outside st louis. On a Saturday afternoon, I was pleased to find such a happening bar! My parents frequent Lauries often & love it. The drinks are strong and cheap, the food is good bar food. The live music was awesome! Mo pleasure was the band and they were rockin! We'll be back to Lauries on our next trip!
Review Source:I've been here probably 3-4 times. Of those times, only once has been to eat the food and that was on the day tacos are super cheap-like $0.50 each. I came here with a small group from class and we all ordered sodas, tacos, and fried pickles. It is fried bar food so you get what you pay for and for that particular occasion, I think it hit the spot. The food and service were both good and it really was a great atmosphere to kick back in between classes.
The other two or three times I've been here were on Thursday nights--"thirsty Thursday" and I only ventured to the bar area as the dining room closes before 10-11pm. They were packed, like most bars are on Thursdays in a college town but we were able to find a high top table to all sit down at. The drinks were made well, and they have drink specials for those looking for a good deal. They also have live music, but I'm not much into reggae music so this isn't really a selling point. A friend enjoyed this place much more than I did if solely for the "one man band" that performs here occasionally. lol Also, I don't remember the bathrooms being nice, but, it is a bar. I'd come back, but only with a group of people who wanted to come here, rather than me suggesting we go here.
We had the weirdest experience here last summer! We came to Laurie's, to the patio, for beers in the evening. I've had good food out front before, and this seemed like a fine place to take a friend who was visiting from NYC. Except...the doorman looked threateningly at my friend (who is a pretty mainstream-looking though tall & skinny guy in his mid-thirties, and who looks exactly like the mild-mannered lawyer he is, actually??) and asked him if he "had a problem." This is totally, totally weird. Our party of four, two couples, actually felt uncomfortable and just left. We went to the wine bar, which was OK but less of a relaxed experience than what we were looking for. What the heck was that all about? Since then, I've been back once with a friend who lives in town, and it was fine...but I have misgivings about the place, for sure. This kind of thing should never, ever happen.
Review Source:Airbrushed Tropical Monkeys and Pandora's Box slash Lubricant Machine...what?
If you've ever been to Laurie's Place, you would know that the patio was taken to Six Flags on bring a coke can and get a free ticket day to get a picture of Laurie and her Man and a bunch of jungle monkeys painted on by an aspiring 17 year old airbrush artist.
You would also know that for just 50 cents, you can try your luck at Pandora's Box, the mystery romance toy slash condom slash personal lubricant machine in the ladies bathroom.
I was at Laurie's Place for the first time recently for live music on the patio, dollar seventy five Coors lights, and big dawg nameless grilling up tasty flame meats. It was there at the Tiki Hut patio bar that I met the greatest living big buck hunter of all hides and time. It was from him that I learned one thing..if you ever shoot a bear, be sure to be at least a mile out and with 3 other dudes getting your back, because that bastard will come at you until 50 pounds of lead becomes enough to bring him down.
It was also there inside the dark and cavernous insides of Laurie's Place that I and the Bearded Interloper - J Crew Fall 2010, shared a toast of Red Stag shot glasses with the lesser known Timothy McVeigh's little brother. Poor TMLB , try as he might, convinced no one else of drinking with him and by the end of the evening, was seen stumbling out of the side door and on to other more sinister designs.
In the end, the cheap Coors did their job, and I was able to put another east side story under my hat. For only a dollar fifty, I came away with a quickie marriage license, a pickup speech for the shy, and his and hers heart and dagger tattoos. And, you bet your red stag I planted one right there on that Bearded Interloper's -J. Crew Fall 2010 neck, I did.
If you're into pub grub, try a basket that includes deep-fried pickles (a pleasant sour bite); if you're a non-greaser, potato skins are a popular choice. Lunch or later, you'll find appetizers and sandwiches $5-$10 in this popular hangout / live music spot where it feels comfortable to linger a long time. I'm no architect, but think part of Laurie's long-term success may have something to do with inviting approaches: plenty of parking in the lot north of the building, sidewalk tables leading into the well-lit front bar on Main Street, and, in the rear, a wooden-fenced "smoker's patio" near the dimly-lit back bar.
Review Source:The best part of Edwardsville is how small it is. Â It's a great day trip. Â Come out on a Saturday morning to the Farmer's Market. Â Buy a country style desserts, pies, locally grown produce, peruse the different products.
Anyhow, I digress. Â I stopped at Laurie's. Â They have live music here. Â Situated just near Madison county court house, they have what I have experienced is the biggest hot dog I've eaten in the metropolitan St. Louis area. Â It's called the "Big Dawg" and weights at least half a pound, covered in chili and cheese, and served with a side of fries. Â The dog is 4 stars but I'd say the chili is 3 or 3.5 stars. Â Alcohol is readily available.
Other goodness served is grilled chicken sandwich with home made potato chips. Â You can even see the brown rind on the side. Â It was good!
Prices are cheap here. Â Whole meal for two cost $12 or less and portions were extremely large.
service was excellent.
