I'm glad this couple decided serving up bbq in the Midwest was more important to their lives than living the life, relaxing in Jamaica!
This converted Rallys makes for a nice drive thru location, but some seating would be nice. The one table they had was taken up by another coach who must have heard about some good bbq in town. So my mom, sister, Matt, and myself headed down the street to the library and sat on the benches in front of the little amphitheater. It was the perfect October night for doing so and I'm glad that we weren't stuck sitting inside a Steak n Shake or something. This was a awesome way to end the long weekend of coaching.
My mom and I both had the pork steak sandwich. I just now realized, after the number of them I have had, that this is a weird concept as the pork steak usually has a bone in it. With the steak so tender and coming right off the bone, its not a big deal, just scared I might chip another tooth. The steak was hanging off the sides of two very large slices of white bread. I was just complaining to some people at the meet about how my mom doesn't even know I don't like white bread, but this was good! This sandwich was phe-nomenal! For $9 with 2 sides, you definitely get your moneys worth. I went with the potato salad which was awesome. It had nice sized pieces of celery, not just little undiscernable pieces, but nice chunks. A few pieces of red bell pepper found their way into my serving as well. Nice to see them. Only thing was, I had a couple pieces of potato that were a little too large for my liking. The dressing was nice and creamy. The cole slaw was too vinegary for me, but my mother was a big fan. Matt had the sampler platter, which came with a scaled down pork steak that was on the bottom of his container and hidden in sauce. A chicken thigh(?) and a few ribs. He also had the potato salad which he enjoyed and the beans which gave me some serious ordering envy, or whatever it is called. I wanted them! Ginny had some ribs even though upon my bbq reccomendation she said "I don't want ribs!" She enjoyed them and was thoroughly upset when she was too full to eat anymore, after about one.
The sauce was the vinegary kind, a little reminiscent of Mauls? I enjoyed it. Overall a great experience which just might have me eating bbq in Edwardsville parking lots every so often on my way home from practice. I am looking forward to trying the chili!
