I've been here several times when meeting up with groups of friends, and have never had a bad experience. The food isn't what I would call fantastic by any means, but it gets the job done. My husband loves the Volcano fries, which I don't think are on the menu officially. The beer is good and I always enjoy the Double ZZ Raspberry Ale, but the other options are always good too.
The pub is well set up with plenty of seating and the staff is very friendly and helpful. One of the downsides of this place is that there never seems to be very many people. I really am not sure why, but it is never even close to crowded.
I would recommend going here and hopefully more people will start to see this for the good hang out spot it is!
Went there with a group of people, and finding a table was no problem,...we ordered two beer samplers, and some calamari, (a perfect combo), then ordered a Porter, and the pastrami sandwich. Everyone had a great time, and the music only enhance the experience. I wish we had one of these in Fresno.
Review Source:Came here over the weekend on a Saturday night with a group of 5 people, and man! It was EMPTY! Not sure what you guys do in Bakersfield on a Saturday night, but apparently coming to pubs is not it.
We came to this pub specifically because we wanted to try the local brews, and it was ok, nothing too exciting and pretty standard. I tried the Double ZZ Raspberry Ale, and the Golden Ale. The Raspberry Ale was ok, had a hint of raspberry and was pretty smooth. The Golden Ale was pretty bitter. We also had the Golden Ale Chicken Strips with the Stinky Fries, and they weren't that special either. The batter of the chicken strips didn't stick on too well or something because they kept falling off, and the Stinky Fries were STINKY! The gorgonzola was too strong for me or something, because I couldn't eat it anymore after a couple of bites! Nonsense! And fries are one of my favorite foods! So I was pretty sad I couldn't enjoy their "stinky fries".
Overall, we all had a good time at this place, but it's nothing too special and the beers weren't all that fantastic.
I ended up spending 7 weeks in Bakersfield and gave this about 3 visits. Â Nice little joint with some interesting beers. Â Different style of restaraunt in that you walk up to the bar to place your food order and then they will deliver your food to your table. Â There is no waiter service. Â I got the Tri tips and nasty fries. Â The nasty fries are basically a garlic cheesy style fries. Â Honestly, I felt that they were kinda slimy so they weren't for me, but the tri tips were great and the beers were interesting. Â This is a vey casual place, but I think it is well worth the trip in Bako. Â For the area, this is worth a visit.
Review Source:This is a cool place to meet friends and hangout. Â The service is fine and the atmosphere is fun.
The food is okay, but I'd eat somewhere else before coming here. Â The things that we've had that are okay on the menu are the fish and chips and the stinky fries. Â Actually, I'd probably give the stinky 3.5 stars. Â I like the fact that they smother the garlic fries with the gorgonzola cheese. Â It is pretty tasty!!
If you just want to hangout and drink with friends or family, then this is a good place to come to.
I have to say I was a bit let down by the new location. It is a great location and I expected something new and different from their local brewery but this is not the case. New location is spacious and plain, to go along with that the menu has not developed form the brewery, new options and quality should have been showcased here in my opinion. Same Lengthwise beers served here as other location so little verity but they due have "Guest Tap" which to me a really the focus at this location.
Glad to have new tap handles in Bakersfield but sorry to see the house brand slipping.
All in all a decent place but do not expect too much. Staff is still great!
Great beer, thats why they get two stars. Can't comment on the food since the  service was so bad we left to Heidis next door for some super bomb sandwiches. Perhaps I was just having a moody reaction to the depressing decor. I was so excited to see we were getting a Lengthwise on this side of town only to visit and realize This place needs some serious help. If you want a good beer, this is your place, but if you're looking for anything more, go to RJs.
Review Source:This is one of the best places to eat in Bakersfield... lets face it Bakersfield is not known for its culinary cusine. My boyfriend and I did a 3 month nursing contract here and fell in love with this place. We love beer espically local microbrews (if you like Bud Light then don't waste your time) Food is great! Stinky fries, nasty fries, onion rings, fish tacos, mac and cheese, tri tip and rib tips were all great! Never had bad food or bad service.
Review Source:Easily my most favorite hangout in Bakersfield. I was very excited about their new NW location.
Lengthwise seems like the only place in Bakersfield that seems like it could belong somewhere more hoppin'....like Portland,OR, my birthplace, the microbrew mecca of the country.
The atmosphere is chill and the beers are good. My go to food item? Any version of their super delicious garlic fries. Hey. I'm here for good beer and good food, not a date. Also the corn dog off of their kid's menu is delightful.
Keept it up guys!
I'm not sure if the kitchen messed up my order, or if they got it right and I just didn't like it. Â I ordered fish and chips, which is pretty basic. Â The fish was fresh and nicely fried, but it rested on top of a pile of gorgonzola-smothered garlic fries. Â The menu didn't say that the fries would be covered in "stinky cheese" or garlic, and they just didn't work with the fish. Â I was expecting hot, crispy fries to complement the fish, and was disappointed with what I got. Â I didn't see our waitress except when she first delivered the food, or else I would have asked whether "stinky fries" are supposed to come with the fish.
The four other people in my group all ordered various burgers.  While no one else ended up with gorgonzola/garlic fries, they were all served soggy, limp  fries.  Although they liked the burgers, they all commented on the unappealing fries.  I know french fries aren't the most important thing in the world, but they are a staple of pub food and should be crispy and golden.
Meh. I was wanting to come here for awhile and sadly I wasn't impressed. The actual building inside is so vast and open that it looses any sense of intimacy or ambience that most establishments want to achieve. Â The bar that use to be there when it was tilted kilt was beautifully crafted with wood if I remember rightly, now it just looks blah and unfinished. Â The place was almost uncomfortably empty and quiet and even the classic rock music playing didn't help warm the hollow place. I hate when people can hear every conversation you are having.
I normally love fries and garlic so i opted to try the stinky fries and they were not very nice at all. I had to force myself to eat them because I hate wasting food or complaining when it's not on yelp somewhat anonymously  :)  but to be honest they did taste better when they were cold rather than hot. Really I wouldn't go out of my way to come back but I wouldn't avoid coming back either or to the other location.
Man do I miss this place. I lived in Bako about 10 years ago and I loved going to the place in the middle of an industrial, warehouse neighborhood. I went for the beer and the beer only. Last week I was back in Bakersfield and went for the food. I Â was impressed. The stinky fries paired with the Ipa was a combo made in heaven. The IPa had just enough bite to counter the Gorgonzola. Then it was on to the main course. Now that I live in Minneapolis I can't find a decent tri tip to save my life. The sandwich was Awesome and went down well with the Porter. End the night with a Centennial Ale and you ate in good shape. Lengthwise is one of many things/places that really make me miss Bako.
Review Source:This place has so many good reviews so I had to try it. I went here with my family for my sons birthday, both my kids got chicken strips and fries, I got the fish tacos, my mom got the chicken and artichoke salad, and my aunt got the garden salad. I just have to say first that the fries are amazing. Awesome fries. My fish tacos were ok, but the actual fish (including the batter) was flavorless, which was surprising. The chicken strips we're too. My moms chicken and artichoke salad was good though. My aunt wasn't impressed with her garden salad, it could've had more of a variety of vegetables. It was just boring. I was also surprised that when we went in the place was almost completely empty. Customer service was ok, definitely not great.
Review Source:I love Lengthwise! Â The food is always good and I love how they are starting to "experiment" with awesome specials; the stinky chili Mac and cheese is amazing. The fish n chips are always quality burgers are always cooked right.
Their own brews are really well done (I lean towards the Centennial, being an IPA fan). They also support other craft beer by offering up an ever growing number of guest beers on tap!
The staff is always attentive and friendly. They do a great job of making feel at home. The service is also timely, I've never had to wait overly long for food or a fresh pint.
The only negative thing I can think of would be that the Pub location still lacks a bit of the character of their original brewery in the southwest. They are, however, making great strides by adding to the decor.
All in all, a great place for beer, food, and to just hang out!
Had to come and try the stinky chili and mac cheese fries. Â YES, it was incredible....the only thing was the chili is a REAL chili (with chunks of beef and tomatoes) and it came off a bit watery next to the mac and cheese. Â But the flavor of each were on hit and together they kept every bite interesting.
The hubby had the ham and cheese melt which didnt interest me at all at first....but with one bite I was sold. Â Perfection.
The place is just a fun place to be and the servers are just as fun, without being over the top. Â I can see why such the buzz about this spot.
Hey, I am a fan of Great Beers! I Believe the beer that Brewed and served by Lengthwise Brewing Co. is among the best of the best! They have transformed into a Great bar and restaurant since I first came to know of and frequent them in the beginning stages of only a brewery and an entryway/bar with taster cups only! Lengthwise not only has great beer but great signature delicious foods as well! I am impressed with their progress and development into such a great place that welcomes you, serves you and thanks you for your patronage!!!! I recommend this place to anyone and everyone that I can! WOOHOO LENGTHWISE *****
Review Source:I love Lengthwise, I don't know if it's the friendly bartenders or the stinky fries... either way, I still like it. Plenty of beers on tap, it's farther than their original location, but it's a bit bigger. Â Oh yeah, don't forget to order the AV sauce, it's amazing if you like hot stuff.
Review Source:Lengthwise is a fantastic brewery that also serves food.
I can't bag on a place where its priority (IMO) is making beer, and does everyone the favor of making food to accompany their beer. If you're looking for a 5* dinner, go elsewhere. It's pub food, people.
Yes, the decor is somewhat bland. But the place went up in record time. I appreciate their gusto to get the location going. Maybe they'll add more as time goes on, but for now it's a-ok with me. I don't visit a place for it's scenery. Maybe people should go with better looking people so they don't have to find something else to look at.
Service was fantastic. We are always greeted by an over attentive younger guy at the bar with a fantastic smile. You can't beat that. Plus, he always asks for my ID (that makes me feel nice and young).
Love the Ham & Cheese!
This place is a laid back pub. You have to order at the bar and seat yourself. There are a lot of televisions, which makes it a good place to eat and catch a game.
I'm not impressed with the food. I had the tri tip sandwich which was mostly bread. The meat was chewy and fatty. My husband had the pastrami sandwich which was also mostly bread. I've had sandwiches from Sequoia with more meat inside!
I'd only come back if I were having drinks. Defiantly not a place I would dine at.
*Important: If you plan on watching Sunday night football, you should know that this place closes early and you will probably be forced to miss the ending of your game.
I won't be coming back.
First of all, I love Lengthwise beers and their SW location. Â I enjoy their signature brews, guest beers, and their pub food. Â The service level is superb, with friendly and knowledgeable bartenders.
This new NW location is exactly like their SW location. Â It's like they trucked the beers, menus, bartenders, and decorations across town plopped in down in this new location. Â I would really like to see them step up their game. Â This is a prime location right off the Rosedale Highway! Â The rent ain't cheap here - do something special with it!
An expanded menu, table service, and a full bar would be a great way to take the Lengthwise brand to a whole new level.
As always, the razzberry ale, golden ale, and wheat ale are my go to drinks. Â The moose spit and lagunitas IPA are great guest beers. Â The garlic fries and chicken strips wash the beer down nicely. Â This is exactly what I would say about the SW location.
My brother and I had dinner at the new Lengthwise Pub located on Calloway and Flushing Quail.
There is an outdoor patio seating area, but that was understandably vacant in our current 100+ degree weather.  As you enter, a sign  invites you to seat yourself and then come up to the bar to order your food and drinks and a waiter will bring you your food.  We picked up two menus off the bar and chose a roomy booth. Â
The interior was spacious with a clean contemporary sports bar feel to it. Â Yet there were several families with kids there. Â Lengthwise has managed to successfully cross demographic lines to become a sports bar and a family restaurant - all under one roof! Â It should have seemed incongruous to see tables of male-bonding micro-beer drinkers next to tables of families with small children, but somehow it just wasn't. Â The restaurant was about half full, and I believe there were televisions playing, though we were too busy chatting to watch. Â
We quickly settled in to browsing the menus. Â All of my naughty pub favorites were there - garlic fries, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, chili, fish & chips, burgers, ribs, and sausage sandwiches. Â There were salads on the menu, too, that were undoubtedly more diet conscious, but frankly my head started spinning as I read my ninth or tenth description of deep-delights and I knew I would not be counting weight watcher points tonight!
We finally settled on a tri-tip sandwich for me and beer battered chicken strips for my brother. Â After a quick trip up to the bar to order, I settled in to sampling the ZZ Raspeberry Ale - yum - and my brother sipped on his soda. Â
In no time at all, a waiter materialized, seemingly out of thin air, with our meals in serving baskets. Â The menu says that all the entrees (except the fish tacos) will be served WITH fries (I added the capitals for emphasis). Â That is not quite accurate. Â Our meals were served cradled over a mound of fries that half filled the baskets. Â Being used to sandwiches served NEXT TO a small pile of fries, I assumed that the fries visible to either side of my sandwich were all I'd be getting. Â When I lifted the first half of my sandwich (served on homemade buns, mmmm) and saw that the entire botttom of the basket was filled will fries underneath, my heart soared. Â No, seriously, it did! Â My tri-tip sandwich was tender and juicy with no gristly fatty parts anywhere to be found. Â The grilled red peppers, onions, sauce, and cheesy goodness made for a lovely contrast of colors and flavors that added up to YUMM!
My brother raved about the chicken strips so I had to try one. Â They were oh-so-tender and juicy, but not oily or greasy (You know what I mean {cough} McNugget {cough}.) Â They had obviously used the breast meat, not the unnamed leftover chicken parts for these babies.
We didn't stay for dessert (We were off to sample frozen yogurt for that) but I was intrigued enough by the description to want to return to try the deep fried Twinkies. Â Maybe we'll try their draft rootbeer next time, too!
Great Lengthwise beer I've been accustomed to here in Bakersfield. The time I came here we didn't eat so I can't comment on the food. The decor is bland and boring and the place gets packed very early in the evening. If you don't mind the blazing heat outside you can get a table out there pretty easily, at least it was for us that night. You do all the ordering at the bar just like the original location. I was kind of hoping they would have stepped up their game with this new location though and had a more traditional restaurant/brewery type way of ordering. Oh well, it seems to be working for them and it may be the first time this particular location can stay open for the long haul. I'm hoping so anyways.
Review Source:Bomb burgers, Â Awesome fish tacos, Â and decent club sandwiches... Â So far. Â Same beer. Â Food was two times better than sw locTion. Â Prob because of newness/quality control. Just hope they can keep it up. Â Bus girls are a little too overeager to check on us during our meal, counted 7 times she asked if we were doing okay. Lots of tall tables with no chairs the last three times we went, Â maybe they finally got ordered? Â Otherwise, great food, Â same beers.
Review Source:The food and beer are great, of course. Â They have the same menu right now as the original Lengthwise, but they have a ton more guest beers. Â I usually order the fish tacos and the chicken & artichoke salad. Â The focaccia bread on the burgers and sandwiches are amazing. Â Stinky fries are a must. Â Try the deep fried twinkies too - it sounds horrible but it's pretty amazing, like eating french toast. Â I've also tried their root beer float recently, it's fantastic.
All of their beers are good, the porter is my favorite. Â In addition to all of the Lengthwise brews, they have many other guest beers. Â Definitely try the Mammoth Brewing Co. Double Nut Brown, it is fantastic. Â I hope they keep that on tap.
The interior of the place is cool, but they could add some more decor - to look like their brewery location.
EDIT: Â After a few months of going here almost weekly, I still love it but have to remove a star for a few reasons:
1) Beer prices. Â I've been to many a brewery, and usually a beer is about 3-4 bucks. Here they are $5. Â And you cannot order a pitcher. Â Guest beers are $6, even the crappy ones. Â So on that note, I usually limit myself to 2 beers, just because of the prices. Â A happy hour would be nice.
2) Menu items. Â I have tried most of their food and have loved everything. My only gripe is that I thought the Pub was going to add some different menu items, like pizza. Â They should at least have a few daily specials.
I think if they changed the above items they would get more business. People like specials. And happy hours!
