Hmmm . . . I am surprised I had not written a review yet.
The theatre is gorgeous! Â Absolutely fabulous. Â The seats are comfortable, the sight lines are good, and one feels pleased at events here.
There is no parking. Â The lobby has an odd feel to it. Â Other than that, the place is remarkable. Â If you ever can have a tour of the facility, take it. Â The stage, dressing rooms, green room, etc. are neat to see.
The events at the theatre have been a mixed bag thus far. Â The resident Off Broad Street Players are good. Â They run a summer camp for children, that my daughter loves! Â The professional musicians that have come through have been a lot of indy and/or has-beens. Â There have been a pretty good crop of comedians.
A small town could not ask for a nicer looking theatre.
What a BEAUTIFUL theater! Â I've been to two shows and this place is great. Â Everything is new and the staff is very courteous. Â Looking forward to Southside Johny, and the Blues Bros. in 2013. Â Check out the website. Â http://levoy.net/
Review Source:FYI: Monday, Jan. 3rd, the renovation project for the Levoy Theater took a dramatic turn. The entire empty building shell came crashing down. Luckily no one was hurt. Â The project is still slated to continue, but the timing has not been discussed in the local media.
There was (reportedly) sufficient insurance on the project, so it is still slated for completion sometime in the future.
The live performance group, The Off Broad Street Players, who had planned on moving into the theater the summer of 2011, are still active in the area ( http://www.obsp.org ) and still plan on being a part of the Levoy, when it finally is completed.
The theatre is a work in progress, but it's expected to be completed in time for an early 2010 opening.
I've seen the architect's plans and it's going to be a showplace. The Off Broad Street Players will be the resident theatre company and other entertainment is expected span the full spectrum of possibilities from movies, to music to comedy.
Further review when they open for business.
