I had the Mongolian Beef. Its very very good. Made with Filet Mignon. I have never had this with this meat before. its really good. But the portions are very small.
After my wife and I ate here, we had to go home and make something else to eat. So if you are really hungry, Id recommend either some other place or a different dish.
I hope that their other dishes are not this small.
Its for this reason that I felt I had to downgrade my star rating.
The place looks more upscale. The atmosphere seems more upscale. But then there was the menus. They are laminated place mats. I would expect to see this sort of menu at Denny's, not a more upscale restaurant.
The other thing I noticed while I was at this restaurant, was that there was a lot of staff, and they were all just hanging around. Some were sitting in the booth just up from us.
Surely, in a restaurant like this, there are things that the staff could be doing instead of just sitting and standing around.
Ling & Louie's is an American/Asian fusion food restaurant that i would say is sub-par. If you don't want to be near large families or kids go sit in the lounge by the bar, very nice seating. Our server was very nice and prompt, he recommended the 50 cent tacos on Tuesdays- they're pretty tasty for a good deal. Our food came out fast. My fiancé ordered the Evil Jungle Princess beef, I ordered the honey walnut chicken. Both dishes were poorly plated in my eyes. We payed extra for 'fried' rice. It was more like white rice mixed with vegetables, then they pile your entree on top so you can't tell. My honey walnut chicken was so-so. I don't think the flavor was very great or even matched the description of the dish. The only thing i have really enjoyed so far was the calamari, it's better than most places. Ling & Louie's is hit n miss for me, some things i enjoy and others i don't. Probably would not go back unless i had a gift card.
Review Source:Went to your restaurant today with my wife at 4:19pm. Walked in the front door and wasn't greeted by anyone. There were only 2 customers seated at a table near the bar. The bar tender saw us and didn't say anything. We waited a couple minutes and walked out. A simple "Hey, how are you tonight" or " We will be right with you" would have been nice, but to say nothing and not even acknowledge us is really poor service. We have never been to Ling and Louie's before. Disappointing.
Review Source:Even though I enjoyed the Brown Rice! Jungle Curry and  Firecracker Chicken, I wasn't wowed enough to want to go back. And even if I wanted to, I'm not sure I could navigate the ridiculous Eagle Rd. turning situation. Oh forget it, let's go to that place with an easy entrance to the parking lot.
Review Source:I bought a Groupon for $10 for $15 worth of food. Â We ordered something, I can't remember the name but it was something funny like dancing lady, hula girl beef, or soemthing like that. Â It was good but I'd give it a 5 out of 10 stars. Â The first few bights are really good but then I started to feel sick. Something in it was too overpowering. Â When the waiter brought the bill we showed him the Groupon AP with the barcode and he said we don't have a scanner. Â He took my phone to his MGR and they took 10% off the bill. Â I told him it was not supposed to be 10% and explained the Groupon and he said well sorry my MGR is busy so you will have to pay tonight and then come back tomorrow to get your money. Â I was pretty ticked but came back the next day, waited forever for the MGR who is apparently the bartender as well and he said, sorry Im busy, the best hting I can do is give you a $5 gift card. Â MGR are supposed to be around to take care of these situation, not be running the bar. Â I'll go back again to use the gift card but after that I think I'll pass. Â The custoemr service was poor.
Review Source:Enjoyed lunch last week, thanks to a sharp waiter named Hugh, attentive service and his refreshing off-the-menu cucumber and mint water, which compensated for the small lunch portion of pad Thai. However, yesterday's return visit was a disaster. All three entrees were lukewarm and the service (by a waitress with x-rated micro short shorts) was nowhere close to warm and friendly. We would have complained but the waitress was dealing with the complaints from the booth behind us.
Add dead flies on the windowsill, dusty shutters, and slooooooow delivery of our meals and we agreed as we departed: never again.
Can it be that P.F. Changs is the best Asian in Boise?
I was really excited to eat here and finally got my chance and what a disappointment.  We had 6 people in our group and we got right in on a Friday Night about 6:45, which made me wonder.  We sat down and the service was not personable, I then saw several other servers wearing nonslip shoes, and two female servers did not have their hair up as they entered the kitchen.  I thought if management didn't care about those things what else is going to be wrong.  I made my way to the bathrooms and they were clean, but as I went back to my seat I saw a prep cook without a hat or hair net.  The food came out, I had the Walnut Shrimp, the Calamari and  edamame beans for the appetizer.  The Beans were way over cooked and were so mushy, the calamari was chewy, and the Shrimp was not fresh.  The server took all of our plates and left the uneaten bowl of edamame beans on the table and did not inquire as to why we did not eat them.  Over all I felt a real lack of caring from the staff as evident in all the violations they racked up and the quality of the food, I also got the feeling that well.................Ling and Louie's Just doesn't care.  I will give it two stars for atmosphere and a cool waterfall that spews fire out front, however,  I will not be back, save your money and if you feel like Chinese order egg rolls from Jack in the Box.
Review Source:It would have been two stars except I did enjoy one of the five things we ordered, the jeweled beef with rice noodles. The hoisin ribs were my least favorite, the walnut shrimp was ok, the sizzling chicken and pork was tasty. The lettuce wraps we're ok, strong gingery lemony flavor, I liked it enough, except it came with a measly 4 pieces of lettuce. Yikes.
The bar was noisy but the energy level was good. It could be a good family restaurant and a great hang out for watching a game. The wait help we're very friendly and I felt welcome here!
Loving us some Ling & Louie's.  A good place for lunch  and a very good menu (I recommend the meatloaf sliders).  There lunch specials are priced right and offer a great variety.   Took a few months after opening to work out the bugs but the manager has been very proactive too ensure people come back and that simply means they care and want to grow their business.
Review Source:Trying so hard to be a PF Changes or Elephant Bar, but sadly doesn't come close.
The good:
Got a table fast.
Server came out quickly.
Gluten free options.
Kids menu.
Affordable options.
Easy to find off Eagle near the freeway and St Luke's.
The bad:
Quality of food. Sent 2 orders back.
The portions of kids food. The kids ordered seconds.
Parking was a mess.
I don't need to go back.
Went here for Sunday lunch, it was completely dead- and by the looks of the 'hip' decor, they are probably losing money fast (awkward). The menu is extensive and seemed to be all over the place, not one for the indecisive. I ordered the orange peel chicken lunch special and pom tea. Food was average, but the portions were laugh out loud ridiculous. I get that its a lunch special- and I'm not looking to just stuff my face- however this was a tiny itty bitty bowl you might have for an appetizer. 11 bucks later (+tip) and I was out the door headed to cafe rio for lunch attempt #2. Â Over-priced quasi ritzy place is not to my liking.
Review Source:Well we tried this place twice. Food is OK nothing special, seems it can't decide if it wants to be Asian or American. Service was good, large doors were open and flies were annoying, spoke with the manager who advised us " wait a few weks and they will all be dead". What an attitude! Took friends and atmosphere was so loud, the background music was blasting away, maybe to scare the flies, we felt like we were in some sort of college bar, Really not a special place, probably wont be back, certainly not till "the flies die" !
Review Source:Thought I'd give this a shot after a friend recommended it. Â I wasn't impressed. Â
When we first walked in, we were greeted by some friendly staff. Â I made the mistake of saying we'd never been there before, and got a long lecture about how a retired baseball player married an Asian chef and they created Ling and Louie's. Cool story. Â The hostess spent 8 mins explaining every dish on the menu. Â Every dish. Â Even the meatloaf. Â Who orders meatloaf!? Â
So I order the Black Orchid Tuna as an appetizer, and the firecracker chicken as my entree. Â While we waited 25 mins for the appetizer to come out, it gave us a chance to google Ling and Louie's. Â Turns out that whole Baseball player / Asian chef story was made up by some guy in Arizona. Â Either the hostess didn't know, or she was a great actress. Â I don't go to restaurants for the back story. Â I go for the food. Â Does anyone know (or care) how PF Changs came to be? Â
So I could nitpick the appetizer. Â It was unevenly cooked, but it tasted great. Â The Asian slaw that came with it was spicy and complemented the tuna pretty well. Â I should have stopped there. Â Â
Another 25 mins later, and the entrees arrive. Â I was not so impressed with my firecracker chicken. Â Way too much sauce. Â The rice beneath the chicken was mushy and drowning in this surprisingly bland, yet very hot sauce. Â Tasted like burning. Â The chicken itself was dry as bone and had an odd breading.
When we went to pay, the hostess (not our very nice waitress) took the folio and returned it without a receipt to sign. Â It took another 15 mins to track her down to see if she'd even swiped my credit card or not. Â
As we left, they offered punch cards for returning trips....I promptly threw mine away.
I have tried Ling & Louie's at least seven times since they have opened.  I have always had  great food and service there and on occasion, a few people in my party did not a particular entree.  My wife has found her favorite entree and that is the fire cracker chicken and mine is the filet and shrimp platter.  I think that they have gotten past the new restaurant jitter problems that most experience during the first two months of business.  Many of the bad reviews are from when they just opened and that is not always a good representation of what the restaurant will become.
Great location, awesome building and the food and service continues to improve!
I read a review for Ling and Louie's and I decided to give it a try. Â I really liked it! Â At first I was skeptical and I really don't usually like fusion restaurants, but the food was really good at lunch and the price was very reasonable! Â I'm going back next week and I will give and in depth review of their menu!
Review Source:Nicely decorated place. The waitress was great. I didn't like my food, but I think I was expecting something different, plus I am not a big veggie fan so I didn't like digging through my food to get rid of the offending mushrooms. I'm sure they have awesome food, and my hubby loves his meal, I just need to ask better questions about whats in  it, and I was expecting different kind of noodles and flavors. I wanted stereootypical food and they were outside the box, so not their fault.
Review Source:My boyfriend and I went here for dinner on a Friday night. I was willing to try it out because I've never been to a fusion Asian place, and I was willing to overlook the new business syndrome of being slowly serviced.
We had to wait about 15 minutes for a table, which wasn't bad compared to how busy they were. When we got to our table, the waitress presented a card with her name, which was great. We ordered drinks (Arnold Palmer limade & tea) and an appetizer (edamame). The edamame was a very large serving and was presented to us about 5 minutes after ordering. I didn't like my limade, so she made me a lemonade AP and didn't charge me for it!
We ordered our food, and it got to us with the average waiting time for entrees, which was great considering it's a new place and they were very busy. I ordered chow mein (I asked to make it with just veggies, no meat) and my boyfriend ordered a beef noodle dish. Not only did it taste great, it had more veggies in it than I've ever seen in a typical Asian dish. My boyfriend loved his meal, and we ordered the banana roll for dessert.
This a great place to take people who aren't very into Asian fare. They have lots of Asian dishes as well as American dishes with Asian touches, like wasabi mashed potatoes and ginger glazed ribs. It's very Americanized, but maybe all fusion grills are. The decor was nice, the people very friendly. There are no vegetarian dishes so you have to ask them to make it so. At the bottom of the menu, they say they can sub tofu, but in my experiences with Asian cooking, just because it has tofu doesn't necessarily mean it is vegetarian. That's all I can really think about for a suggestion, is to say "vegetarian options available" or add a veggie submenu.
My wife and I visited the weekend after they opened. We entered the crowded restaurant and were told it would be an hour and a half before we could be seated. Expecting a long wait, we put our names down and took the beeper. 90 minutes later we were still waiting while people who had come in long after us were being seated. My wife asked how much longer we'd have to wait and the hostesses had skipped over us on the list. They promised us the next available table and we were seated within 5 minutes. Once seated, we ordered an appetizer (Loaded Nachos) and drinks. The nachos came and went; they were mediocre at best. Our waiter never returned to take our entree order, so my wife flagged him down as he proceeded to walk by the table. He apparently didn't realize we had waited an hour and half for dinner, but was happy to take our orders anyway. My wife ordered the F'n Loaded Sliders. The filet mignon in them was quite good, but the buns were burned black on the inside and the fries were far from memorable. I ordered the drunken chicken. The waiter had a problem lighting the alcoholic sauce, and when he did get it lit, it burned for roughly a half second before the flame went out. He then tipped the plate while setting it down on the table, spilling the sauce all over the rice. The chicken was cold and drab, and my rice now tasted like rubbing alcohol. Overall, an absolutely terrible experience. We'll never return.
Review Source:I read the other reviews concerning service related issues, I'm thinking the root cause is "new restaurant syndrome" as we experienced zero service issues during our visit.  We were able to sit  down, order, get meal and finish it all in under 1 hour.  Our food came promptly about 5 minutes after ordering and was so hot it was on fire (literally).  I had the 22 oz Kiran beer, Firecracker Chicken (good but not going to be a favorite as it lacked uniqueness), Drunken Shrimp (tasty) and Banana Caramel Spring Rolls (totally excellent).  Although we didn't order the kid's bento box for our daughter, the diners next to us did and they were a decent size for the price.  We will definitely return and explore the other menu options soon.
As for those of you wondering about the "gist" of this place, it is Asian cuisine meets American comfort food. Â This is not a typical "Chinese Restaurant" and really should not be compared to those -- some here compare to PF Changs and that is apples to oranges in my opinion. Â The menu is not really designed for family style dining, each dish is a "complete" meal meant for a single person -- the dishes come with rice, main protein, and vegetables all on same plate. Â We asked for extra plates to share the two dishes we got, but looking around the restaurant we did not see anyone else sharing food. Â
Overall, the restaurant was very busy, very modern on inside and generally a "nice place." Â We are happy to see another non-National chain option on Eagle in Meridian. Â We hope it stays there for a long time !!
Got our first chance to check out this newly opened place right off Eagle Road and it was a mixed experience overall, but good enough that we'll return in the future.
The good:
- Very family friendly and good kids menu for $5...Bento Boxes that my son loved and seemed like he barely put a dent in it.
- Good noodle dishes and spring rolls. The noodles we got for lunch were the highlight...good flavor, good amount of veggies and well executed.
- The chicken soup was probably the best item we had at the table...great flavor and perfectly spiced!
The bad:
- Miso soup was under "misod" we felt...just lacked a depth of flavor you like to see in Miso soup.
- The firecracker chicken dish sounded great, but the seasoning was off...just felt like they dumped hot oil over the top of it and called it a dish. With some adjustments fo the sauce, this would be a good one.
So for a lunch joint on Eagle Road, it was good and had a variety on the menu which we'll continue to sample as we go back in the future.
