Went there with my kids on 4/6/2013 for dinner, wish I hadn't. It must have been biker night or something because there were alot of them. Sat down and was finaly greeted 10 minutes later. Food was ok, how can you mess up grilled cheese and pizza? Food delivery was very slow for the mentioned items, I mean a grilled cheese takes like 2 minutes and pizza (9inch) should be quick too...took 25 minutes to get food. Won't be back anytime soon, bad dining experience.
Review Source:4120 Little York Rd. is the address...you can see the sign from the interstate.
I have memories of eating pizza at Little York Tavern from waaaay back...when it was at the old location that looked like a big weird house. If we didn't feel like going all the way to Marion's, my dad and my uncle would bring my cousins and I here. I remember it being dark, and me feeling like I was getting away with something...it did not feel like somewhere children were supposed to be. Now, the restaurant is in a building that used to be a Damon's. It's a big building with several pool tables, a big bar, a big patio, and plenty of seating.
We met my parents there on our way from Columbus back to Indy, and I really wish we hadn't. The server had no personality and disappeared between drop-offs. Things started going wrong with the beverages. I want to add that the place had been open at least an hour by the time we arrived, and that there were 3-4 other tables at 12:35.
Both of my parents ordered iced tea with lemon. My dad took a drink of his and grimaced "I think this is sweet tea." My mom took a sip of hers and said "Mine doesn't taste sweet," she takes another drink "It doesn't have much flavor at all." I held her glass up...it was clear. Both of them had gotten a glass of water, which the server insisted was tea. Her response was NOT "Sorry...I'll check the fountain, maybe it ran out," it was "Everyone likes the tea...if you don't like it I will get you some water."
We ordered 2 pizzas. Even though meatballs aren't listed as a topping, you can get them as a pizza topping. I ordered a pizza with sausage and meatballs. The toppings were really good but the sauce and crust were lacking...not bad, just kind of bland. It tasted like cheap frozen pizza with good toppings put on. The Hawaiian was described as "boiled ham and pineapple with white sauce." The pineapple looked like it had been microwaved and thrown on top of the pie after it came out of the oven. The white sauce? Was it ranch? Was it alfredo? NO! It was mayonnaise! Straight up nasty. My parents both like mayo, my boyfriend and I do not. So, if you like mayo enough to sub it for pizza sauce, you may enjoy LYT's white sauce. Did I mention the pizzas took about 40 minutes to arrive? When they did get there, we didn't have silverware, napkins, or plates. We asked the server for to-go boxes, packed up our pizzas, then had to hail her about 10 minutes later to ask for the check! We sat there with the check for 10 more minutes, then finally gave up on plastic, pulled out cash, stood up, and put our coats on. "Oh...were you ready?" she says. Food was "meh" and service was poor...beer selection was lousy too, which is why we all ended up drinking water. I will not go back. I would describe the decor as "tacky man cave meets garage sale leftovers".
The only reason this place gets 2 stars, not one, is because none of us got food poisoning and the food was hot when it arrived.
If you really like lite beers and a patio though, it might be an ok spot to hang out, drink beer, shoot pool, and smoke on the patio. I'll never know.
Generational Gap Filler
Every Father's Day weekend you will find my father and I sitting on the patio, drinking pitchers, enjoying food, and relaxing at Little York Tavern. This holiday tradition came out of the love my father and I have for enjoying a great a time and me needing an affordable place to take my father out for some quality time.
Little York Tavern appeals to the younger crowd because of the affordable prices, the large portion sizes, the multiple full bars, and after 10pm it becomes over crowded with a DJ and dance music.
This Tavern appeals to the older crowd because it is pretty laid back, before 10pm there is plenty of room to relax, they have take out and delivery of their food, and they serve pitchers of cold beer.
The reason Little York is good for all ages is that it is good for crowds, their pizza is known to be great, they have a large patio, they have corn hole outside, they have good music, they cater to the biker crowd, and the people that you find inside are always interesting.
The service is pretty consistently good, my father and I usually go for lunch and hang out for several hours. The servers always check in and have a great experience waiting on us. We do play a small game to see how charismatic my dad can be. I have to admit he is 3 for 3 in getting our server to mention his "beautiful blue eyes" every year and so I always have to pay up.
Little York Tavern may be known for it's pizza, but everything is pretty basic bar food. The only real standout is the White Pizza with capers. There is pretty much just domestic on tap, but it is a full service bar. Although, it may seem like just another place to stop for a pint, for my dad and I it is a traditional good time!
I'm not really sure what all the fuss is about here. The food is average bar food. The hoagies or subs are aweful and look frozen made. That just bugs me because it's not at all hard to made fresh food. The pizzas are decent but not mind blowing. As far as beer goes they have the basic run of the mill hill Billy beers, bud, bud light, miller light, killians. Other than that, not any IPA,s or crafts which is disappointing. But i wouldnt know otherwise because they have no beer list on site so you just auction off beers still you hit one. For the record I went through 5 beers I wanted before finally saying just bring me anything. I don't drink liquor but the girls said their drinks were good, not too strong and not too sweet. The prices are the average prices you see everywhere. Overall, without the patio it's just another dive bar with cheap beer and cheap food. The patio is what really makes this place. This bar could be amazing, but is just ordinary because they choose to serve inferior products. Raise you standards people! Demand better products! Hey if you just like a pepperoni thin crust with what ever beer is cheapest this is your kind of place. Until they get better beer I'll prolly just go to south park tavern or tanks.
Review Source:Ah, Little York Tavern. Little did you know that uprooting from your old location that you'd become THIS. Every time I come here you are bustling inside your restaurant, inside your bar, and on your patio. In fact your patio is probably the place to be!
I personally like the patio! It screams Midwest! Picnic-tables, pitchers of beer, cussing like sailors, razzing, a wooden bar, and CORNHOLE!
Earlier each night the crowd [on the patio] is generally 30-40 year olds. Some families. Later after 9 it goes to 21-35 i'd say. After 9 though, the patio is 21+ only.
I have long enjoyed little york and it is the only pizza place I have ever worked at and will still eat there. If you long for that thin crust that you used to get at another place in town that starts with a "c" then go here, you won't be let down. The chili is great as long as you know that it's hot so don't complain it says it right on the menu *HOT*. Ah back to the pies, now I love thin crust cut in squares call me crazy but taking a single piece and throwing it in your mouth is just about as good as it can get for me and eating pizza. I have always loved the fact that the veggies are fresh and this may be one of the few places that was using fresh mushrooms long before anyone else in town was. There is something about crispy crust pizza that just rocks for me, and that is hard to find anywhere else but here, and trust me I am still looking. All that is left to say is go for it, this is some great pizza. Now if you like thick chewy crust then don't come here and complain because you have been warned and no they don't have a thick crust so don't ask and really move on thick crust is so over rated.
