Yes it's kind of a hole in the wall however their Taco Tuesdays are amazing. I don't know why but I can't get enough of these tacos. They're not gourmet but the crispy shells are addictive. Service can be a little slow but like others have said the atmosphere is chill and it makes me feel like I'm over at somebody's house chilling in the basement.
P.S. Mackenzie is the sweetest!
As a San Diegian, this place was insanely OC. But not TV OC OC, that you might picture if you don't live in CA. Irvine OC. And Irvine is it's own beast. I watched a guy that looked like the guy from Coheed & Cambria sing Incubus aloud to his dude friends when the song started until it finally ended. On the TV was "America's Dumbest: Hillbillies". Â Most of us were watching it and laughing aloud. There was a waitress in short plaid shorts in 40 degree weather and at times I thought my bartender was gonna murder me. I had to laugh a little 'cause Irvine reminds me of two SD cities. Poway and El Cajon, but as if they had a baby and that baby is Irvine. I worked in one and grew up in the latter. I relate to Irvine and although I may sound as though I am talking shit... I loved this place! Good Beer! Stiff Pours! Good Food! I had a great burger! I have been coming up this way and staying nearby so I will be here again!! And I look forward to it.
Review Source:Service here can be very hit or miss, or very on-point if you know what to expect and are direct  w/ what you need, expect, etc.  In other words, some places might go the extra-mile or take that extra step to seemingly go out of their way to help, and most everyone here'll do the same if you tell them what's up. Otherwise, you could be relaxin' a lil longer than you might prefer. Â
It's been a while since I've ordered their infamous cheese-crisp (which is similiar to a mexican-pizza, but a different item than the mexican-pizza) since I've only cruised in for a quick beer here & there.
They have a nice selection of bottle-brews, but don't expect micro-brews or overly classic labels (so check-in w/ Dimension Liquor across the street for some Chimay's or Duvel) when you're in that mood and thinkin' you'd stop in for such.
Walking into this place was like walking into the movie "Road House". It's dark, dingy, and smells like a 24hr fitness locker room mixed with booze & vomit. Once again, against my better judgment I was dragged here by a co-worker for "Taco Tuesday"...let's just say that if they had given me those tacos for free, I still wouldn't have eaten them, they were pretty bad and to make it worse we waited nearly FORTY-FIVE minutes to get 'em...so apart from the bad food and horrible atmosphere, we were late getting back to work. This place henceforth will be filed under "Worst Places in Lake Forest"
Review Source:This is a great little hang out. It has the feel of a sports bar, with many TV screens. I've been here for Taco Tuesday, which the tacos rock, love the shredded beef tacos. Liqueur prices are average, but their drinks are good. On some weekends they have a band there which I like to hear some live music ever so often. I like the atmosphere, though I don't think I have personally been there on a busy day, so I like to bring my own crowd. The place is great though, everyone is friendly.
Review Source:2 stars because their food is big portions and cheap. Â Service is so slow and usually horrible. Â They can be friendly and not... Â it's hit or miss. Â My pet peeve is that they advertise specials on their menu but when you ask about them they say they might be having it today and sometimes aren't. Â So if it's a Sunday special and you go in on Sunday half the table might get the special and the other half don't. Â You have to order a drink to get the special, which I did, but they still wouldn't honor it, and finally he gave it to me.
Review Source:Went here for taco Tuesday and will never go back, amazingly the food is somehow worse than the service.
We arrived early with a party of 3 there was maybe 8 other people in the place half of which were sitting at the bar.
It took almost 15 minutes to even get acknowledged only to have the waitress forget our drink order after returning with water... what was even more shocking about this incident was the fact our drink order consisted of two beers and 3 waters... yet it took her two tries to even get that right.
At this point I am not even sure why we tried to order food but we did. We ordered 4 beef taco, and 2 chicken only to have the beef tacos come out first with no sign of the rest coming anytime soon. After 10 minutes of no chicken tacos we flagged down our server since she showed no sign of ever coming back again and kindly asked she cancel the order and bring us our bill. Thankfully our server admitted she had forgotten to put in the order for the chicken tacos so canceling them would be no problem!
The beef tacos were pretty awful and ended up not sitting well with me. Needless to say I will never be returning to los cabos cantina probably some of the worst service and food I have come across in Orange county.
You are better off going to del taco right up the street you will get better food, better service, and a cheaper bill.
They have wing specials on Wednesdays, where wings are $0.30 for their Hot Wings, and $0.50 for Buffalo Wings (Both Dine-In Only).
First off, this place serves you the full wing, all three pieces, and counts it as 1 wing. So where you would go to Wing Stop, BWW, or Wing Nuts and pay per drumette or flat/wingette, you actually get both with one order plus the wing tip! The size of the wings are about as big as Wing Nut wings, and bigger than Buffalo Wild Wings and Wing Stop.
Wings:
As for the flavor, their Hot Wings are okay, a bit bland, kind of red peppery, tomato flavor? It's spicy (according to them REALLY spicy), but I would measure it a little less spicier than Xxtra Flamin' Hot Cheetos. Overall, not really something I'd eat all the time or a lot of, but hey, for $0.15 a wing I'm not complaining. The Buffalo Wings were good though, I would fork up the extra 10 cents per wing and get that instead, but at those low prices, you might want to try both for the hell of it. For the most part the wings were crispy with sauce all over, and they do not hold back on the free Ranch (which was also a little bland or light). The only bad thing was that 1/3 of the wings were cold, but that was probably because we ordered about 60 wings. Just wished they would've brought the food out as it was ready, instead of waiting for the whole order to be finished.
Other Foods/Drinks:
We also had their Mexican Pizza, which is an 8 sliced, thin crust  with melted cheese and marinara sauce? on top. It was okay, kinda like a quesadilla with sauce on top. For $4 or $5 (forgot how much we paid) I would've just stuck with wings. They don't have a good selection on cheap drinks, only $4 for a margarita and $3 something for a bottle of beer.
Service/Atmosphere:
I'm not really service, and atmospheric type of guy when it comes to restaurants, so the look and feel of a restaurant doesn't normally affect me, as long as they bring me my food correctly and check up on us every once in a while. Take a look at pictures people uploaded to see what it looks like. That said the server was very friendly and attentive, she would refill our drinks frequently, and asked us if we needed more beer when we finished our bottles. If service matters to you, I feel that they did a great job in taking care of us. They play music kinda loud inside, but the DJ was friendly and played whatever we requested, which was cool. People around us were good, no one obnoxious the whole night.
Other:
The only other notable thing to mention is that close their kitchen when it gets slow. We came at about 8pm and they were about to close it down. Luckily for us it was still open, but yeah, I would call ahead of time if you plan on heading there late.
Rating:
Food - 2.5 for the Hot Wings, 3.5 for the Buffalo Wings
Drinks - 2.5 for the average price on beer and margaritas
Value - 5 you can't beat  6 wings (which was actually 12 wings and then some) for $3. It will fill you up for cheap, especially if you're on a budget.
Overall - 4 Not the best wings, but you definitely get your monies worth. Will come here again for sure. I'd say try it at least once, what can you lose except a few bucks.
I also hear that their Taco's on Taco Tuesdays were some of the best in the area, I will try them soon, but if anyone else knows a better place than this, message me the location!
I come here all the time with my friends usually on monday night for the 6 dollar pitchers. The bar is nothing spectacular but we've grown to love their bartender Jamie (Hi-may) and feel at home within their walls. The crowd is nothing you haven't seen before if you've been to a few bars. One thing that I love about the place is that there are not a lot of tough guys who fight everynight. Once in a while there is a fight but for the most part everyone is very laid back. It's a great place to watch a game with there many flat screens and big projectors. Overall if your looking for a good time and are in the lake forest area this is a great place to check out.
Review Source:I had no idea this place turned into "Night life" after hours. Its in a hidden place. I lived in Lake Forest for years and had no idea this place was here. It was cool. Younger crowd, cheaper drinks, and has pool tables. Overalll it was a fun bar to go and hang out.
I dont know what the food is like so I cant rate that.
If you wanna get out of the house for a late night drink with your jeans and flip flops this is the place to go. Pool tables, full bar and a Juke Box for music.
I've had a lot of good times at this bar. When I lived and worked in OC it was very close to both, so it was easy to stop by after work or before ending the night. I love their shuffle board and it's not too hard to get a pool table, unless it's a league night. There's plenty of space to hang out in so it never gets too crowded. The drinks aren't the best, and the service isn't great, but usually it's fun just to hang out and meet people. They have live bands, and it's extremely entertaining to watch old guys play classic rock. We had my birthday party here this year and the lead singer of the band talked to me all night and asked me to come up and dance and sing and take shots and it was pretty awesome. I don't come here too often because I like to mix it up, but when I do I always have the best time!
Review Source:I've been to Los Cabos a handful of times. Each time I've been served with a decent drink and mediocre Mexican food. If you're considering stopping by this place do so during their happy hour which ends at 7pm, because I don't believe that the food or drink is worth full price. I think the service could be improved, I'm not saying the service was rude it just seems as though the young ladies that have served me and my husband are painfully shy and struggle to carry on a conversation. Normally when I go to a bar I expect for the service to be a little more conversational... or maybe I just talk to much... hmmm
I do like it's close proximity to my home, so if my husband and I do decide to go there ad drink too much, we can always walk home. There are also a ton of flat screens throughout the bar so if you like watching sports, you can definitely catch a good game here. I enjoyed watching the Stanley Cup playoffs here.
I can't say that this would be my number one choice, but in a pinch or if I land a last minute baby sitter for a quick date night out with the hubby, I'll stumble on over.
I dislike this place, but I do come back from time to time. Â So why come back? Â Why not give this place a one star? Â
Look, it's a bar. Â Not quite dive, not quite upscale, just your regular bar. Â It does help it's half a mile away, and if I do get blitzed, I can walk home without much injury to myself.
On top of that, the bartenders, all very attractive women, give a friendly smile and wear very attractive clothing. Â
So what's the problem? Â Why are you being such a dick, George?
Waiting for a beer sucks, but waiting forever angers me. Â The bartenders, though they give you that smile, work slow and my Chinese Protestant Work Ethics make me angry at the bar and the staff since I perceive them all to be lazy. Â Even on a slow night, they're not very organized.
Food is from a bar (so I'm not rating the place because of the food) and the drink selection isn't the best (which is what I'm using as part of my rating).
I come here out of convenience. Â That's about it.
Good atmosphere. Went to see a friends band play here. Mix of older and younger crowd. Bar service was HORRIBLE though. All 3 of my friends and I ordered mixed drinks and couldn't drink them because they were so horrible and we ended up switching to beer. Female bartender here is NOT nice and has a major attitude problem. Other than that, good place :)
Review Source:....So the bartender hears "no no! You said if you had to do beastiality it would be with a chicken because, you know, they would struggle to get away....and all that wing flapping and struggling...."
....and he looks up and laughs and I say "oh shit, sorry about that...."
...."no worries, I've heard much worse"
Phew.
Stop #3 on our 2011 SOC Winter Storm Watch Tour. I had been here once before for a bday party and remembered they had hot servers and btenders. So I eagerly agreed to do an after dinner drink here.
We sat at the bar, and sure enough. Hot bartender. But not really in a bartendress kinda way. She had a semi-conservative dress on like she came straight from her office job and just sexed it up a bit by undoing a couple buttons. I blurted, wow you're mighty dressed up tonight. Her reply: you should see me when I go clubbing. Would love to!
Anyway, I'm here to review this place and not blab on about hot staff members.
It's a sports bar. Lots of men drinking beer and watching sports.
Review part accomplished.
We were in the area visiting some friends and we ended up hanging out at this bar.
I didn't have any expectations coming here, but it turned out to be a decent place. There was plenty of room inside...plenty of tables, plenty of tvs, and plenty of drinks!
There wasn't a huge crowd when we went and it was even a Saturday night. We even made a friend with a local drunkard.
They serve a variety of Mexican food here, appetizers and combo plates. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't something to rave for either. Our waitress was very nice and accommodating, and she did well considering she was the only one on the floor that night.
The margaritas seem to be popular among the group. And they make it pretty strong, along with their other mixed drinks :D But no fear, if it's too strong the bartender will gladly water it down for you.
This is such a chill place with a good mix of people, and I wouldn't mind coming back.
We love coming here especially on Taco Tuesday. Great for groups, a lot of tv's, and pool. Food is good and tasty (its gringo mexican food, how can u go wrong?) Tuesday $1 tacos are a good size. Burritos and nachos are yummy. Service could be better but its a sports bar and the girls are friendly and always make the boys feel nice ;) ...very accommodating when we need our tab split. All in all we enjoy coming for baseball, football and tacos.
Review Source:This was the final stop after a night of drinking, so I can't comment on the quality of the food. We arrived sometime after 12 a.m. (I think?) and it was mostly dead aside from two small groups of people. They've really made the most out of the interior; it feels open and spacious with plenty of room for seating and standing around. I got a Newcastle, and was upset to find out that it's not on tap here, so I got stuck with a bottle. At least serve it to me in a pint glass. Regardless, I was able to sit and talk with my friends without having to overcome loud crowds or a booming sound system. I'm sure things aren't so mellow when you're there at 9 p.m., but this was a good spot for a nightcap. I'll have to return when it's earlier in the day and give the food a try.
Review Source:As one review so well stated. Â Do not judge a book by it's cover. Â The normal conclusion, is, that because it is a sports bar, and has absolutely gorgeous "tenders" , that the food might be just edible. Â But you will discover as I did, the food is simply outstanding. Â The reason why...well, they have a full on kitchen! And the head cook knows his way in the kitchen. Â I have always had a great time when coming to this place. Â All the people who work here and even frequent this place are just super friendly. The food was such a major plus. Â I highly recommend this place if you are looking for great food and a fun time.
Review Source:When I found out that Hooter's was no longer airing the PPV for the UFC fights, I called around to find the closest sports bar that was and happened to stumble onto this one. From the outside, it looks pretty lame and it's in a pretty lame area. Once you step inside though, there's a bunch of TV's and plenty of seating for the big fight. Showed up right on time and it wasn't super packed which was nice. Waitresses are nice. Ordered a few pitchers, complimentary chips and salsa and an order of the Irish Nachos and we were good to go. Food was meh. But can't really complain, since there was no cover to watch the PPV. Will definitely be coming back for as long as they keep showing the fights.
Review Source:This place is the perfect example of how you shouldn't judge a book by its cover.
From the outside, this appears to be a little hole in the wall mexican food spot hidden in the back corner of this center.
Step inside, and it's a LARGE sports bar, with tons of TV's, a good vibe, and awesome drink specials. Â There's 3 VERY LARGE SCREENS and a bunch of smaller ones between them. Â If you get lucky to have your game on that BIG screen you are stoked! Â It seriously may have been the biggest big screen i've seen at a sports bar like this.
They have a "drink wheel" that they spin every 30 minutes or so, and whatever it lands on is the next drink special for that time. Â Cool concept.
The servers were friendly and cute. Â The crowd was rowdy but not outta control crazy. Â Lots of beers on tap and lots of space inside.
I also tried a fish taco that was BIG and pretty damn good at $2.50.
If you are in the area and trying to catch a game, this is the spot!
*go steelers!*
I like this place.
I came here for dinner on a Friday, and didn't expect it to be so bar-like. It was shortly after work so it wasn't all that busy yet, although there was a dinner crowd. Little did I know that this place IS more bar than restaurant, but that doesn't mean the food is bar-like at all. In fact I found it to be quite the opposite.
We sat down wherever we wanted (away from the birthday party) and a waitress came up and asked what we were having. I told her we had never been here before and weren't sure, but wanted to get some beers and food. She listed the beers they had on tap, we selected stella artois in pitcher form and asked if we could get menus.
She promptly brought us our pitcher and we ordered our food plus an appetizer: chips and salsa (which apparently have free refills. score). She brought out the chips and salsa and they were surprisingly good. The salsa was fresh-tasting and the chips were good and crispy, without being overly oily. By the time we had finished the chips, she brought out our food and asked if we wanted more chips. Hell yeah I want more chips.
I got the chicken enchiladas in green sauce with rice and beans, and my girlfriend got a carne asada torta. Both were pretty damn bomb, although I'm not sure if my gf's torta was carne asada or shredded beef... seemed more like shredded beef, but she still enjoyed it.
We got drunk and ate good without breaking the bank. They also have a killer happy hour and pool tables, and seems like this place turns into a night club at night.
Some of the reviews here make it seem like there are major inconsistencies at this place, so I'll update this review should I get a different experience next time or the time after that.
That means I'll be back.
I've gone there about 4 times now, each time experiencing the same level of service - or lack thereof. Dont be suprised to experience 15 minute waits the initial drink order, lost orders, messed up orders, etc. The food is pretty good but by the time I get it my experience is ruined and I just want to fill my starving belly and get out. If it wasnt that this is the only cantina around I would gladly go elsewhere. Its sad when people have to choose your business by default. I will give this place one more shot. If I receive the same service I won't return. It's obvious they dont get trained in customer service there...either that or they are washed up servers from other local spots. At night they ask for your credit card in advance to "open a tab" no matter what you order. I wonder if this was implemented because people likely end up dining and ditching because they have to wait 15 minutes to get the check. Last time I went there the person next to me was complaining because he had waited 20 minutes to get his beer. He ended up walking out when they finally brought it.
As an entreprenuer myself, its upsetting to see this blunder happening.
So, in summary. Good food - if you have the patience. I don't like bashing any business, but this one had no excuses. 4 visits, 4 different servers.
ummmm i was soo ready to have this be a nice bar close to home.
I just got back from taco tuesday and had the worst service imaginable!!!
First when we got there the waitress didnt even come near us. Â when one of us finally pulled her from another table to take our order or ask for drinks, she said she would come right back with a pen to write it all down. Â and SHE NEVER CAME BACK!!!
my friend and i decided to go to the bar and order. Â she asked us to go back to the table and when we told her we werent getting any service she took our order and gave us drinks to take back.
then we waited for the tacos....
and waited....
and waited.
when we pulled the waitress again to ask about them, she came back with one of our plates.
and never came back again.
we went to the bar to ask about the rest of our food and they finally brought the last plate after everyone else was finished eating.
i dont even know if the tacos were good cause i was soo mad and starving.
definitly not going back on taco tuesday again,
I've been going to Los Cabos for a few years now. Â The only thing I can say is not to have any expectations. Â You can go one night and the crowd will be bro-tastic and then go the next and see a bunch of locals having a few drinks. Â The crowd is almost never the same, which really does fit the place well.
That all being said, this is not the place to order anything fancy or complex. Â While the bartenders and waitresses are quite attentive, an AMF is basically pushing the limits unless you're willing to walk the bartender through making your drink. Â For reference, I asked for an Irish Car Bomb once and was served a curdled mess in a short glass. Â However, if you want to grab a beer or a jack and coke, you're good and will most likely be happy with the generous mixing and good prices.
When I first started going to Los Cabos, the restaurant was always closed by 6, which I always thought was dumb because there's not much better drinking food than mexican. Â Lately, the restaurant's been taken over by a new owner and is open all night, and I've been really pleased with the food I've had. Â Both the nachos and fish tacos have been exactly what I wanted after a few drinks and were also quite tasty.
This place is great because it is very close to home for me, and they have great weeknight drink specials. The bartenders are nice and make good drinks. I would ignore the older reviews because I did and I was happy I decided to show up.
We've been there on a Friday before, and it was a bit too packed, I strongly prefer being there on a weeknight when they have their specials and the bar isn't so crowded. Taco Tuesday here is awesome, $4 margaritas! So is Ladies' Night on Thursday, they have lots of cheap martinis and shots for less than $4 or $5 each.
The bar has a shuffle board, several pool tables, and the room is surrounded big screen TVs and a few projector screens showing different sports channels.
The crowd is not the typical people that I would associate myself with, so when my friend and I put some songs in the jukebox we were hearing some groans. (What's wrong with The Beatles?? Seriously now.) They'd rather hear Nickelback or Linkin Park, etc...
BUT we don't go there for the crowd, we go there for the drinks! The taco stand inside has good food, too. Check it out!
I love Yelp...well...
Glad that Alex recognized that my original review was from January 2008. Â I had a crappy experience. Â Is that a reflection on what goes on there after I was there? Â Nope. Â The place had potential when I was there...and I noted that. Â If it has gotten up to speed, awesome.
What irks me is Yelpers bagging on reviews because they had a different experience or have something to do with the place. Â So what? Â My first time there was crap and that brought about my review. Â Period.
To the little angel that was insulted by my review, you are complaining seven (7) months after my review because you work there? Â I wonder if you still work there now in December? Â Glad that you take pride in your job. Â The bartender working when I was there did not. Â
And as for bar etiquette and paying, I would lay odds that I have been going to bars two or three times longer than you've been able to work legally. Â Did you know that bars prefer that you pay cash? Â
Lame.
By the way, it's spelled "douchebag"...
-------
Any how, went back with a friend to catch a beer. Â The place was more lively. Â We didn't get to spend much time there, as we just met there on our way to a gathering. Â
I still like the space and will give it another real shot sometime soon.
Pretty good place to drink and hang out with other drunkards. Â Has a lot of white people in it, which is good- since i'm asian and I sometimes get the "asian" crowd- esp. when I go to D&B (on thursdays).
I normally come here after I have eaten or don't feel like spending a lot of doe on booze- and the prices are actually decent in this joint.
There's normally a bartender I prefer but I forgot her name- but she makes bomb ass drinks, nice and filthy like I like em.'
So good atmosphere, nice drinks and 30 seconds away from my house- which is a huge plus to me! I'm not a drunk by the way, I just get really thirsty sometimes...
I really like Los Cabos. They have pool tables and decent food. The crowd there are regular joes, friendly, not at all cliquey or part of any "scene" which is nice. It's really good when you have a small group and need a place to share a pitcher. There are tvs everywhere and if there's a game on, they turn off the music and turn up the game, so if you are a sports fan, good for you.
The food is decent and the kitchen stays open fairly late. Generally, it's not very crowded and there's plenty of room to move around. The bartenders are fairly attentive and will remember your name if you come around a few times. They drinks are fine, they are mixed decently and definitely do the job.
All around, it's a decent place and I really don't have any complaints.
Update:
The beer battered fish tacos = DELICIOUS. I don't really care for their burritos though.
It's been a few months since Eric reviewed this place so I thought it would be fair to give my take on the place. Â
Just based on the number of stars I gave Los Cabos, I've obviously had a better experience than Eric has. Â I've actually been here a few times now and it's a good place to grab a beer and watch a game. Â Like Eric said, there are a lot of nice flat screen TVs as well as two very large projection screens, which makes it really convenient to watch games, especially for someone who doesn't like to wear their glasses all the time (me).
As for the notoriously bad bartenders, I think they're much better now. Â I'm not saying that they're spectacular but they are nice on the eyes and fairly friendly. Â They're attentive enough but I suppose if it were ever busy, it might become a bit of an issue - the only thing is, I don't think I've ever seen it all that busy, even during a play off Laker game.
Los Cabos isn't great but it isn't horrendous either. Â Just your local watering hole.
Could not agree with the first more...but I will add more.
Ditto on the help, useless. The one behind the bar when I was there was a brunette with and IQ close to her shoe size, about 6. I was the only one sitting at the bar, ordered a Coors Light and everytime I re-ordered another beer, and said I'll have the same, she asked what I was drinking.
Not too clean, not too friendly, too high priced.
This place would do real nice in Santa Ana, given the rest of the crowd and the pool tables....
Avoid this place like the plague.
