Los Comales

Man this place was packed at 3am!  I appreciated the speedy service and the security guy up front helping to direct us all to a table.  The chips and salsa plus veggies were tasty and came very quickly.  Our server came to take our order so fast I just glanced over the menu for something.  I got the chicken fajitas with invisible tortillas (they never gave them to me).  I would have again asked for my tortillas but I had enough chips to satisfy my carbs anyhow.  The food was pretty good and very hot temperature wise  Not too greasy or over done but it isn't really anything to write to my mom about.  It tasted like what I expected it to taste like.  I did like the amount of meat and cooked onions, tomatoes and green peppers they give you to stuff your tortil... I mean fork with.  The portion was average, enough to fill you and perhaps to take home.  I would have liked a little more beans with it, I just like beans that much I guess.  As for the price, my jaw dropped at the register.  I had to ask if I was paying for the entire table or just myself. The fajita dinner and a water came to just under $16 without a tip.  To me, for the amount I got, it was highway robbery.  I almsot considered asking for my tortillas wrapped up to go to get my monies worth.  As I was leaving I realized there were no prices on the menu, now I know why.

I could be happy with giving this place four stars based on what I did enjoy but that price just killed me.  Even my friends TWO steak tacos and water came to a little under $7 before tip.  I just can't justify the prices to warrant a trip back anytime soon.

When I want some good Mexican food for lunch, I'd choose here before the Taco Bell across the street. I've dined in as well as ordered takeout. The takeout process is rather long when you have 15 other coworkers who want to order as well when they overhear that you're coming here. Bleh. WHY DON'T YOU DELIVER?!?! It's bad when you never know what's going on with group orders but that's ok because the food is worth it. I always get chicken tacos or burritos. They have come up on their lunch prices but hey, if I want to spend money, why not spend it on something I like. :)  Cons: makes me sleepy while at work. Makes it hard to concentrate because I'm so full.

Every Mexican food lover knows Los Comales. Good over priced tiny tacos always available after a late night out. Not much variety, but when you're starving this place is...well...open. And I guess the mediocre tacos are ok.

With that said, i'll review my visit. I ordered barbacoa tacos, and they gave me these chunks of squared meat with lots of fat and nerves and it was so disgusting, we could not eat them.  So I guess you gotta stick to their famous asada or al pastor. They have that going for them, plus the carrots and veggies on the table (they are "free" but your food is overpriced). Other than that, nothing here is going to amaze you. Be prepared to pay a lot, and need a lot of those little suckers too in order to feel full.

UPDATE: They removed the pickled veggie trays from the tables. And with that, they also removed customers from their restaurant. Last time we went, it was empty on a weekend and the tacos were bland. The service was not great either. Keeps getting worse and worse.
