Janice Borla Vocal Jazz Camp

The week-long program is jammed with opportunities to learn and hone your jazz vocal techniques. Classes begin at 8:00 AM with very informative instruction in jazz history. Students then break down into three small groups for vocal instruction with one of three noted vocalists. Vocalists switch from year to year so if you want to return for a second or third year, or more you can receive instruction from a different singer. I worked with Janice in my first year and Judy Niemack my second year. A master class is also offered each day so you will have other opportunities to work with additional artists. I had Jay Clayton and Madeline Eastman for some of my master classes. Each day there is also music theory classes broken down by level of expertise, from beginner to intermediate to advanced. Each evening there are faculty concerts. Later at night, beginning at ten there are jam sessions with a rhythm section which allows you to work on your techniques and explore different songs. These can go late into the night. I had one that went pass one. The energy at the camp is very supportive from the instructors to the other students. I suggest that you stay in the on campus housing, which will allow you to take advantage of all the musical opportunities provided. And the final graduate concert with all the students is the best. I think the tuition this year is about $600 which is a tremendous value.
