I was in Peoria, IL on a business trip, looking for a decent lunch place. I was craving Mexican for some odd reason, and was pleasantly surprised to find decent Mexican in Peoria. Good chips and salsa. I had the pollo yucatan which was quite flavorful.

This is alright Mexican food for the Peoria area.  There wasn't anything wrong with the food, but there wasn't any spectacular about it either.  It hit the spot for a Mexican food craving.

Service is fast, literally.  We could barely get our waiter's attention because he kept running by our table.  Because of this, any drink refill requests took a long time.  It got a little annoying by the end of our meal because we wanted to get the check but it was hard to get his attention.  Other than that, service was fine.

I had high hopes after reading the mixed reviews here, but the dining experience actually got worse as time went by.  This is my first review on Yelp because I feel so strongly about NOT eating at this place again!

To start off, we were served FROZEN salsa! When we asked for some more, our waiter returned with another frozen container of salsa! Needless to say, it didn't taste very good at all, especially with the stale chips.

The margarita I had was ok, but was definitely made from a mix. I had asked our server for a water and NEVER received one.

When the food arrived, I started to loose my appetite. I had ordered  the fried chicken  chimichanga (something I usually order at Mexican restaurants as a comparison meal). These were drowning in some kind of mystery sauce (enchilada, maybe?), that resembled buffalo wing sauce. The menu stated that it was to come with guacamole, which I love. But THIS dish had about half a teaspoon of guac on it. When I asked for more, I realized what I wasn't missing....tasteless guac that wasn't even close to fresh! It was somewhat browned, so I assume it had been prepared that morning, or the day prior. I ate half of the dish, then decided to stop because i couldn't stand it any more. The sauce overpowered everything, and made the entire dish mushy and tasteless.

My friend ordered a mixed enchilada platter (bean, chicken, and beef). He had to stop eating the chicken enchilada after two bites because the meat was bright pink, and clearly not cooked through. He immediately lost his appetite and asked for the check.

The overall service was horrible.  Initially, the man who took our order kind of swarmed around us until we were ready to order, something that annoys me immensely. After that, about 4 servers came to our table bringing us different items at different times throughout the meal.

Now, my friend and I have both worked in the restaurant industry as servers, so we understand the importance of tipping well. With that said, we also understand the importance of imparting a message to a place so horrible as this. The service and meal were so atrocious, that we did not leave a tip. We wanted them to know that this service and food is absolutely unacceptable, and that we won't be coming back.

I went on a Friday night and it was busy-ish but still with several empty tables so my fellow diner and I had no trouble getting in.
The service was painfully slow.  The first server that came to get our drink order never came back with drinks at all, nor did he pass on the order to the next server who showed up.
The chips were greasy, almost transparent and entirely flavorless.  The salsa was ok.  I had the Vegetarian G combo again and it was pretty terrible.  The spinach burrito tasted horrendously salty while the mushroom quesadilla's flavor could only be described as vaguely burnt.
    I won't be back.

Great Mexican food in peoria. This would be my number one choice for mexican food after 'la familia' plus this is a very decent sit down place. The ambience is good- i like their wall painting that glows in dark. The theme matches the name- about a agave farmer.
The menu was huge and food was awsome, always served at right temperature and spice level. The portion size is very good. The customer service is excellent. I like how they have a dedicated waiter for salsa and chips. He keeps bringing it in as it runs out. I have tried several things from their dinner menu. my top favorites are Chori pollo. I like the marinated chicken with chorizo, the combination is just delicious- Must Try. The next favorites are Pollo Yucatan and Rancehro Chef's Special. I would give it a five star the only reason i stopped at 4 is the salt content, it bit high for mexcian food. Next time i go i am going to make a request for reduced salt. Lets see if they can customize it.
I wish in summer they provide some outdoor seating, not a perfect location for outdoor seating, but will do.

Ok so my poor rating should be prefaced by the fact that I went at 8pm on a Sunday so maybe this is not peak time for Mexican but if they are open, they should be serving the same delicious food they do at busy times. But oh my, this was not delicious food. First, I went in person to order to-go because I didn't have a menu. This seemed to make the waitress upset and very brusque with me. The food came very quickly and they even gave me the gratis chips & salsa though! I ordered the shrimp & scallop fajitas and there were lots of the seafood in the container. However, what was missing was ALL seasoning. I mean ALL. Not even salt. All you could taste was the actual natural flavor. And we all know that shrimp and scallops are not exactly foods that burst with natural flavor! It came with refired beans, rice, sour cream, guac, lettuce and one half slice of tomato. I read on a different review site that fajitas came with pico de gallo but not these. Thank god for the salsa or else this meal would've been ruined. The rice also lacked seasoning, frankly the rice from Taco Bell has it beat. I should've listened to my fellow Yelpers and ordered something with their signature sauce. Cuz that's what I will be getting on my next visit!

This is an authentic Mexican restaurant! The murals on the wall add a nice touch. The food is great, live it, ive never been let down. You get free chips and salsa. Service is good, plenty of food to choose from and they have the Mexican beer I enjoy.  The staff is friendly and they do a good job to take care of you.
The owner is usually on staff, least the times I go I see him there. Its hard to find a good Mexican place here in Peoria but I recommend Los Jimadores!!

Very good Mexican food at a very reasonable price. The blacklight paintings are an interesting touch.
The last time I was there you could choose from several lunch specials for only $3.99, which of course includes chips and salsa.

Best Mexican in town. Eat there regularly. Only good place to eat on Sundays.

the homemade hot sauce at los jimadores is fantastic.  the $3.99 lunch special (chicken quesadilla, rice, & beans) is a steal and totally worth putting up with semi-attentive service.  the atmosphere at los jimadores isn't the best, but if you choose a booth, you won't have to see much other than the person sitting across from you.

Best Mexican in Peoria. The margaritas are amazing, after only one I can't drive home, they are pretty stiff. Big menu, awesome atmosphere. who doesnt love blacklight paintings of aztecs?

This is, in my experience, the best Mexican restaurant in the area. Pricing is very reasonable, and portion sizes are huge. The standout for me thus far has been the Burritos Delux, which is two burritos (beef and chicken) with delicious sauce. The free chips and salsa is a notch above what you get at most places - the salsa actually has a bit of a kick.
