This place has potential and I hope it stays around long enough to realize it.
We went for a Sunday brunch for our first meal at Lounge 22 and were pleasantly surprised by the well thought out décor and friendly and attentive wait staff. The bottomless mimosas were awesome.
The brunch menu looked too good to be true - so many delicious choices. The two of us settled for the Hash Brown Fennel Sausage, the Seafood Benedict and the French Toast. Unfortunately all the food was quite disappointing. The poached eggs for both the hash and the benedict were way undercooked, in some places the egg white had barely turned white and it seemed like we were eating raw eggs. Â The toast of the French toast was not fresh and equally undercooked, tasting either stale, or cold and soggy. Since the recipes seemed very well designed we wondered whether the chef had left the cooking to short order cooks in charge for this brunch (a big no-no if you just opened a restaurant) - or why else would the execution be so dismal?
On the positive side, the wait staff was very attentive and friendly, knowing how to balance great service with allowing for privacy and conversation. I hope that this place can refine its faults and stay open because it surely would be a great addition to the Redlands food scene.
We will be back one more time in hopes that the cooking fiasco of today won't repeat itself tomorrow.
I am always hesitant to try a restaurant that seems to add truffle oil to a majority of their food. It seems to be the "it" ingredient in cuisine right now... Kinda like the Justin Bieber of food.
I decided to try the place for lunch after reading the menu that was posted outside. Was I ever disappointed to learn that many of the items on the outside menu were no longer available. When I mentioned this to the waiter, he said the owners left it up as a piece of nostalgia- it was their first menu when they opened. I totally get that... If the restaurant had not opened less than three months ago.
The wait staff was phenomenal! They knew the menu and made the wonderful suggestion of the Roasted Brussels Sprouts. This dish would be on my menu for my last meal. It was delicious.
For our main meal, we had the fried chicken sandwich and the seafood club. The fried chicken sandwich was okay. The bun was too big for sandwich, but good. The seafood club was served on huge piece of soggy bread. It made it hard to enjoy the sandwich. Â I did appreciate that both dishes came with a fresh salad instead of fries. The waitress even took the time to explain that the radishes were called watermelon radishes. It was a nice touch.
Lounge 22 works closely with local farms and businesses. i think that is great. On the chalkboard, Lounge 22 even lists which local businesses products they are using that day. Love that!
I do not know if Lounge 22 will make. I would like to try it for dinner.
A friend and I met for a drink and appetizers. It was fantastic! The staff is super knowledgable, attentive and warm. Made us feel very welcome. No snobbiness about this place!! We had the brussel sprouts, a cheese plate (most amazing date purée!) and desert. Everything was perfect! I can't wait to take my friends and family here!
Review Source:I was super excited to try this new restaurant in Redlands. We ordered portobello fries, bone marrow, brussel sprouts, sea bass, scallops, mussels/clams, and ginger creme brûlée. It's was al good... Except for the marrow. My bf and I love bone marrow and we've had enough times and enough ways to know good bone marrow. This was so bland and under cooked. It was a beautiful presentation but did not deliver on taste. The portobellos fries were amazing, maybe even better than bottega Louie! I love the goat cheese on the brussel sprouts, but maybe they don't need to be deep fried. All the main dishes were on point. LOVED the ginger creme brûlée! Would go back again to support my hometown.
Review Source:I had been wanting to go to this place for a while now and finally had the chance to go yesterday. Staff was friendly and the ambience was nice. I ordered the pork belly benedict and my friend ordered the brussel sprouts and vegetarian crepe. Everything looked delicious when it came out but when I took the first bite of my pork belly bendict it was extremely salty, to the point where it was difiicult to eat. I'm not sure if maybe they over seasoned it but I was extremely disappointed. I want to think that maybe the chef was having an off day or because we were the last ones to order for the day I got the last of the pork belly that wasn't so fresh. My friend was also not very pleased with his food....I'm not sure I'd ever go back and try it again.
Review Source:Third visit to lounge 22 and it keeps getting better. The service has improved steadily since there grand opening. The wine and beer selection is very good. The bartender Wilson knows his craft.. I'm now a beer drinking fool.
Food was creative and quite tasty.
The live entertainment is always a welcome addition.
I've been here a several times and here are the highlights:
The chicories and carrots (salad) is really delightful! (I get this every time I'm here.)
The seared scallops are pretty awesome! (I also get these every time I'm here. The cauliflower puree and roasted cauliflower are really yummy.)
The chicken coq au van was amazing! (This was a dinner special.)
Wine and cheese are good too, but the food? Their chef has MAD SKILLS.
The first time we came to the Lounge, we just happened to stop by on a live piano jazz evening. The atmosphere was great the wine was good. What really impressed us is that  Jonathon came out to our table (even though we hadn't ordered food) to introduce himself and answer questions etc.
We returned a few weeks later for a glass of wine and dessert. We decided to try the brussels sprouts with goat cheese and an apple cider reduction
that Jonathon told us about. They were AH-mazing, as we expected!
We also had the chocolate tart  with orange oil, thyme and sea salt.  Heaven. All I can say.
Our sever Eric, was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and the beer and wine selection. He brought everthing together to make our evening perfect.
We will be back and bringing friends with us!!
Redlands needs more restaurants of the scale of Lounge 22. The food is outstanding and the service has been great. Been there 3 times so far; twice for dinner and once for Sunday brunch. The portobello fries, brussel sprouts, burger special, mussels/clams, and deserts are all excellent. I hope that this restaurant survives and stays around for a long time! Great ambiance, but a bit noisy, but overall probably my favorite restaurant is Redlands, and one of the best in the LA area.
Review Source:First time at Lounge 22 and 'twas delightful. Â We enjoyed a very good Sauvignon Blanc and Saison for our first course.
After that, we thought it was a good idea to chase these down with some olives, so we ordered a bowl and were happily relieved that it was NOT a miniature plate of olive oil with 6 olives swimming unhappily. Â The portion size of olives was enough for 4 to share. Â We suspect there may have been 3 or 4 cerignola olives tossed in to impress us. Â Good stuff so far!
Moved on to a "Stone Fruit" small plate. Â This dish should have been called: "Cute and Minty Fresh Greens with Itsy-Bitsy slivers of pear, stone fruit and toasted nuts" Â The stone fruit was a little hard to come by, but the flavors were delicate, fresh and surprising. This "salad" was dressed with absolutely terrifying precision; not too oily and not too acidic.
It was time to ingest protein, so we selected the Roasted Mary's Chicken and the Anson Mills Grits with 62 Degree Egg. Â Chicken: boneless breast. roasted to the brink of medium rare (for chicken...so it was not too dry and very tasty) and sliced over almost-crunchy wheat berries, bacon and freakishly-thin longitudinally-sliced heirloom carrots. Â Grits: At first I thought "11 dollars for grits?" Â Then I ate the dish and thought "this is pretty flipping good for 11 dollars."
Too bad that we could not stay and order more wine, people watch and pretend that we were not there misbehaving on a school night.
We both really hope this place can survive in the old Rainbow theatre lobby. Â We will be back to try to give them more money to consider sticking around.
We stopped by this establishment a couple of weeks ago for lunch. Before we went I checked their web page & FB page to be sure of the lunch hours. When we arrived the patio furniture out front was chained up, the front door open so we walked in. No one answered, the chairs were up on the tables, the lunch menu was there on the chalkboard, however no response. I messaged them on FB and they indicated the owners decided that they would no longer be open for lunch due to it being slow during lunch hours. I replied that they should advise the public via FB and/or their website since it states they are open that is just bad business. Their response " sorry for the miscommunication". Their website and FB still show open for lunch, I don't call that miscommunication I call that bad business, we certainly won't be back. One additional note, adding a post on FB the day of stating your not open for lunch is TACKY.
Review Source:Waitstaff took forever, and the table was too small. If this restaurant is going to prepare farm fresh ingredients they shouldn't mutilate them!!
We had fried brussels which were totally dry. I'm assuming they were roasted first and then fried? Anyway they were totally void of moisture. We didn't know that the cheese and reduction were on the bottom. When we ate all the brussels all we had left was cheese mush on the bottom. Next time less roasting, drizzle the goat cheese and reduction on top.
Steak frites, where did you learn to make this "butter" sauce? It is gross! Put it on the side until you figure out how to make it.
The best place to go for great food, a great selection of beer and wine plus a full bar. Â This is the place to explore and try new tastes and food made with local ingredients. Â Redlands has many stale, old restaurants that serve same old thing. Â Get out and support this place as it should be a regular stop on your eating out rotation. Â Try their Brussels sprouts, they ain't like momma used to make.......I love these.
Review Source:If there was a way to rate a place between a 3 and a 4, I'd totally rate The Lounge 22 a solid 3.5. Â Couple things that stuck out in my dining experience last night:
- The oysters were delicious, best I've had in a while.
- The Portabello fries were to die for! Â
- The salad was bitter and gritty, the waitress did remove the salad from our bill, which was nice of her.
- The Burrata toast was way over priced, I was expecting much more of a salad of burrata and tomatoes, with toast on the side, but got one slice of cheese bread for $10.
- At some point they changed a keg and rolled the empty one right out the front door, straight through the entire dining room, which I found hilarious!! Â
- They have some great local beer on tap and lots of bottle beer choices. Â
- Finally, I did opt for the Sparkling Brut happy hour special, and my Brut was warm....not just a little warm, WARM like they took the bottle off a shelf rather than from a fridge. Â I did not opt for glass #2! Â
The food was pretty good, but it is very obvious that they are still working out the kinks of being a new restaurant. Â I do appreciate that there is something new and delicious in Redlands!
I came here with a friend for small plates and wine. Â Decently large wine list (although lacking in some diversity) and carefully selected menu. Â The french fries were very good (we ended up asking for another order) but the cheese plate was just ok. Â
Pros: great atmosphere (for Redlands especially), nice outdoor patio in front
Cons: service was kind of slow initially and it got pretty loud throughout the night which made it hard to hear across our little two person table
Overall: I would def go back and try their brunch and lunch menus. Â On a cooler night I would also go back for wine/small plates but would try to sit outside so that it would be a little quieter.
Ate here last week for lunch and was very impressed. Ordered the portobello fries as a starter which was very good in my opinion. For my main dish I ordered the frenchie which came with a small salad on the side. The frenchie was very good and I would definitely order it again. Also on the plate with my sandwich was a small salad simply dressed which I also thought was very good. Just the right amount of food for a good lunch. As for the drinks, I think this place is beer and wine only joint, so I tried a few of the craft beers they had on their menu, all of the beers I had ordered were good.
Review Source:Warch out, the Farm!
This place has great potential. It's nice to see interesting flavor combinations such as seared scallops, pear, and cauliflower be rendered with farm fresh local ingredients. I can tell the staff really cared about the food. My server asked me about the coffee(very berry) to see my opinion on it. No complaints about the olives, oysters and scallops. The pot de creme was way too sweet for me. My teeth started aching...not a good sign. But all in all, I'm a definite fan. Good presentation, interesting flavor combinations, and simple local fresh ingredients. Good service, ambience, and decor. Expect an update soon.
This place recently opened and I really hope it stays. The location has had numerous different restaurants try and fail within the last few years. We had lunch there and I had the burger, it was delicious. A member in our party needs gluten-free options and the chef personally came out to review those options with her. He even fried our brussel sprouts in brand new oil so that they weren't contaminated by the main oil stock. We also got the country toast and the yam veloute, both very good as well.
I will definitely be going back to try the rest of the menu.
