With the new menu at Mackensies, comes the most delicious pickles ever, made on premise, and served in an adorable pickle jar right on the plate. Â Nice presentation! Â its a head slapper, I cannot get enough of them was the perfect accompaniment with my delicious cheeseburger topped with avacado, just insanely delicious! Â So the next day, I'm still craving pickles, nope, not pregnant, lol, so Joe, the manager brings me some while i decide what else i want to try on the new menu. Â I chose the white cheddar Mac and cheese with chunks of short ribs served in a cast iron skillet....omg another head slapper!! I had to share with them the other patrons at the bar.
So I'm telling you, the menu has made significant changes, so when you go just save some pickles for me!
Footnote: Â Joe, please think about offering the pickles as a packaged item right in those cute jars. They would make great gifts as well as great advertising! Â Lisa :)
Now open for lunch. Hard to find a place that strives to satisfy at fair prices. I had the BBQ bacon burger and wings. Both were outstanding. Â I intentionally made bizarre requests such as dry wings with the available sauces on the side and a burger cooked medium char. Both were executed without question and perfectly. Â Service was attentive and friendly. Â Overall a great place that I'll be back to often.
Review Source:I really wanted to like this place. I really did. Â It looked so cozy as I first walked in. The atmosphere was very cozy, relaxed, and I liked that there were lots of booths. Â Ordering was another story. Â It was totally confused, served incorrectly, and took over twenty minutes to correct. This left half of us with dinner, and the other two waiting. Â We didn't need the ten minute explanation on how the order got confused. We just wanted our food. Â When the food did arrive it was ok. Â I would like to say something great about the appetizer or dinner, but I really can't. Â Sadly.
Review Source:There are two types of Irish pubs. Â You've got the kind where time stands still; pints get served, beer gets spilled, lights get dimmed, and people get louder and more outgoing as afternoon turns to evening and finally to nighttime. Â Hardwood, close quarters, and a mixed bag of burgers, sandwiches, snacks and dinner entrees, most with an Irish twist. Â The other kind mimics the first one, but is a cleaner, fancier, more expensive facsimile, where the focus is on dining rather than eating and family rather than community. Â MacKenzie's is this second kind.
It's a good copy, though. Â The look is dead on. Â They've got the beer you want and the food you expect, with a few surprises, like the excellent Beef Stroganoff special and rich bleu cheese mashed potatoes. Â Young kids will fit in just fine. Â Staff is attentive and the clientele is friendly. Â You'll pay for the privilege -- few if any of the meals are under $14. Â If you're looking for an Irish pub with a Scottish name, pull up a stool.
This was our first time here, and we found the place disappointingly average. Food was mediocre for the price (my corned beef sandwich was dry and my husband's burger was nothing special). Service was pleasant and polite, but inattentive. It wasn't even busy, but our waiter didn't check on us after serving our meals, and we had to flag down a hostess to get drinks refilled. We decided to give MacKenzie's a try because of a $10 off with "purchase of two entrees" coupon we received in a local mailing. I guess it's not unusual that burgers and sandwiches don't count as entrees, but the menu is small-- mostly things like sandwiches and salads-- and so it wasn't clear what they consider an "entree". In retrospect, probably just the $30 steaks. I guess we should have asked first. Â Oh well. You win some, you lose some. . .
Review Source:This place really fell off.
I have been coming here for over 10 years. When it was privately owned they had huge caesar salads and good portions at reasonable prices. Then Black Horse took it over, and within a year, the portions went down and prices went up.
It's just average now. It used to be very good.
I really wanted to like this place. Â When I walked in and saw the booth's it reminded me of the Pub's I had the pleasure of visiting when I was in Dublin years ago. Â Unfortunately I ended up being disappointed.
I stopped by for a lunch at 1:00 on Sunday, we were the only other couple in the place. Â The service was not good at all. Â We ordered two hamburgers, sweet potato fries, a salad and coke's. Â A simple order which unbelievably got mixed up. Â The salad never arrived and had to be taken off the bill. Â One of our burgers came with plain fries instead of sweet potatoes. Â Not the end of the world, but for such a simple order, I think it's reasonable to expect it to be correct, especially after the salad no show.
The hamburger buns were stale and the cokes at $2.75 a piece were in a small glass and no refills were ever offered. Â The burger I ordered was supposed to come with Wasabi Mayo and that too was sadly missing. Â That was the whole point of the burger! Â
To give credit where it's due...I will say that my requested Medium burger came out Medium, something hard to find! Â
Some have said it's a reasonably priced menu. Â I have to disagree Burgers and soda for two at lunch shouldn't cost $35.00 plus tip, even if it is Mendham.
If I thought it was just a bad shift or day I would try it again, but seeing the lack of other customers, and the mix up from the kitchen and poor service...clearly this is how the restaurant operates. Â They could use Gordon Ramsey! Â I won't be back.
For what it is (an old-time pub) it's excellent. Â The owners have done an good job turning back the clock, creating the kind of place that was popular more than a half century ago. It's a great place for a summer-evening martini or a winter-evening ale. Lots of wood, booths, friendly little bar and personable waiters.
The food is pretty good but, again, for a pub it's top-notch. Go into this place to relax, drink and socialize in an exceptionally cozy space - and don't expect gourmet food.
