I love Mad Mex!!!
Their food is great! Â The portions are huge, though, so split with a friend. Â Their beer selection is fantastic and their margaritas are the best! Â They offer growlers to go, but the bartenders are not very adept at filling them, which is a shame because otherwise I'd get a growler on the way home from work every night!
If you're looking for authentic Mexican food, this place is not it. All authentic Mexican restaurants put free chips & salsa on the table ... they charge $6 here and the chips were so-so. The quesadillas and tacos were rather dry and lacked much flavor. Dinner for two adults & three small kids was $57 and not worth it.
Review Source:Went with the family on a Friday night and placed was jammed.  After waiting 35 min we sat at a great table. Great beer selection including craft brands and  solid margaritas with fresh ingredients. For $5.50, you can't beat their kid menu that includes a drink, carrots and celery to start with dip, entree and brownie with ice cream for dessert.
Food is very decent, but it's tough to mess up Mexican. Would go back. Very cool art work, lots to look at!! Service was fine for being so busy.
Play by Play: Waitress show signs of avg service-seemed to be in a rush; didn't ask about apps to start; got kids' drink wrong. So far service is 1.5 star. But there's a lot of other ppl checking on the tables and filling in to ensure customer needs are met. Upgrade to 2.5.
Nachos and dip are good-2.5
Main course-carnitas burrito-better than chipotle-nice smoked flavor
Chicken Mole Enchilada-good mole sauce; good chicken
Food: 3.5
Overall I recommend Mad Mex-the staff is attentive and after I shared with our server she seemed in a rush, she was responsive.
The magaritas weren't that great, Â but the chips and three dips was. Â Yummy guac, pineapple habanero salsa, and black bean dip. Â The hippy burrito was yummy and huge. Prices were decent as well. My only issue was that there was a lot of fruit flies and we spent most of our dinner swatting them away.
Review Source:Not the best Mexican food I've had but this spot is pretty chill. Been here only a couple times. Good place to come for an inexpensive meal while eating out. They have good vegan and vegetarian options. You can replace any of the meats in any of their entrees with tofu, mushrooms or even black beans if you request it. I had an angry hippie burrito naked and requested them to make it more like a salad with extra lettuce and no extra charges thankfully and no extra charge on extra pica de gallo. Service was good and friendly. I noticed they had vegan carrot cake on their dessert menu as a new addition too. Their chips weren't bad either. They have blue corn and regular ones and didn't taste too greasy or like they come from a store bag.
Review Source:Coming from Ohio State (and having a love of "Big Azz" margaritas), when I saw a Mad Mex in the North Suburbs, I had to try it.
Whenever I am usually there (lunch hours), it is pretty sparse so getting seated quickly is a breeze (including outdoor seating with favorable weather). Â Their lunch specials are quite good and reasonably priced: a small salad and a chicken Mad Mex Burrito is $10 plus tax & tip.
My biggest thing would be to have realistic expectations: don't come here expecting cuisine straight from Mexico City, but expect something similar to its adopted heritage. Â Beer specials are pretty good and their margaritas are very tasty and made with real fruit (not just mix from a bottle).
I would like to grab dinner here once to compile a full review, but I would recommend Mad Mex in meantime for quick, tasty, and ample-portioned lunch specials.
I'm not one who is inclined to write the 73rd review, but hopefully someone out there is listening because this restaurant has great potential.
Now, I love Mexican food as much as the next guy but I have to say I was thoroughly disappointed with my meal. As I was told that the food and atmosphere were delicious, I walked in finding a hip atmosphere with sub par food.
Why was it so bad? Well, the Nacho's were incredibly disappointing. They looked so good, but there was almost no cheese on the chips! They would have been delicious with all the toppings heaped on and the guacamole, but it was actually pretty awful without cheese on 70% of the chips. While I was willing to look over this lapse, my entrée came with a similar lapse; no sauce.
I had the buffalo chicken taco which to ones ears sounds splendid. An interesting take on Mexican food, right? NO. It was a hard shell with some dry, mild chicken with some lettuce thrown in and no sauce. GAH!! And I was so excited.
This has the opportunity to be a great place, and I'm sure it has it off and on nights. I'll be going back to give it another chance I'm sure, but this isn't baseball. Two Strikes, and Mad Mex is out.
I love Mad Mex Willow Grove for its great "Calimex" food and good draft list.
Go for happy hour, weekdays 4:30 to 6:30 for half priced drafts and wings! If you're there for dinner, I highly recommend the Fajita Burrita.
No reservations, which means long waits on weekend nights, but also you can get a table for dinner on New Year's Eve for 12 at the last minute if you're willing to wait half an hour.
My biggest criticism--If it's not happy hour, the draft beer prices seem all over the map, with some beers costing less and others significantly more than you would find at a beer bar in the area (e.g. Iron Abbey).
Tex-Mex/Ameri-Mex options are frustratingly limited in the 'burbs, so Mad Mex is a very welcome addition to the culinary scene.
The menu offers creative, happily inauthentic Ameri-Mex fare. No free chips and salsa, unfortunately, unless you sit at the bar. Worth ordering are their burritos stuffed with tasty proteins, beans, and rice, any of their fajita varieties, wings, the chicken chimi, wing wrap, and tacos. These options are numerous and have all been memorable. Mad Mex's quesadillas tend to be somewhat bland, and the enchiladas have consistently failed to leave any impression. Similarly, the margaritas, though cheap and boozy, are pretty lackluster. In contrast, the tap list boasts a great variety of brews that will suit any beer geek's palette.
Service is great too. Our waiter happily gave us ample free samples of various hot sauces and salsas when we told him we liked spicy food. He furthermore was quite accommodating to my party's mixed dietary needs (many were vegetarian and picky), which really enhanced our experience.
I'm really glad Mad Mex opened up within a 25 minute radius of me, it's worth the slightly lengthy drive here for tasty, fresh Tex-Mex food with good service.
I've been here twice so far, once for lunch and once for dinner, and both times the food was excellent.
If you order quesadillas you get three big "wedges" - very filling and I took one home with me. Â It came with pico de gallo and I ordered guacamole (it costs extra but it's worth it - it's clearly fresh and not out of a package and it's so good.) Â When I went for lunch I got a spicy chicken wrap. Â The sauce was supposedly mild but was very spicy - just hot enough for me, and I like hot stuff. Â It came with ranch dressing (you can get that or bleu cheese) and chips.
Chips and salsa are not free like at many other restaurants but I think it's worth a few bucks, especially if you're sharing it with some friends. Â The chips are higher quality than the usual (not out of a bag) and the salsa, like the guacamole, is fresh, delicious, and spicy. Â They also have a number of other dips available which I look forward to trying sometime. Â
The folks I went with were also very happy with their meals, which included chicken fajitas (they give you a lot of chicken), soft tacos, and taco salad (huge!) Â
My only food disappointment was that they no longer offer mango iced tea because "nobody liked it." Â I liked it! Â
Service was friendly and attentive.
I do recommend going during off-hours as when I went with my friends for dinner around 6pm on a Friday it was very, very loud and none of us have loud voices. Â When I went for lunch at around 2pm it was pretty empty and quiet.
So glad to have Mad Mex around; we have a lot of other restaurants but Mexican places are pretty scarce around here!
This Place BLOWS!!. I got flagged after drinking 2 martinis. The Bartender came up to me and said she would not serve me a beer because the manager told her i was falling off my bar stool. The manager was completely out of line to make this accusation. Meanwhile the people sitting to the left and right of me appeared to be just as drunk if not more than me. Not to mention last week I drank 3 Martinis in this bar and it was a non issue. I was certainly not drunk and had made arrangements to get home safely in the event I did. I think that they saw me as a outsider and didn't fit the profile of a Mad Mex customer. This is a joke and the manager in Willow Grove should be embarrassed! I will never step foot in this place again and I will make sure everyone I know and encounter does the same.
Review Source:Successful first visit. Fairly large dining room with bar on the far side, accompanied by a nice outdoor patio area for those if you that love eating next to high traffic roads.
My burrito was good. Although in the future I'd probably just drive the extra 1/4 mile and go to chipotle. All our meals were a tad over priced for the amount of food. $9 for my burrito which came with no sides.
Atmosphere is nice for quick family lunch or diner with some friends. A bit on the noisy side for other occasions.
+1 star for having cherry Pepsi on tap. Well done Mad Mex.
Visiting the Willow Grove area and looking for a reasonably priced restaurant with a fun atmosphere? Step into Mad Mex!
Last night (Saturday) was my first time here. My buddy and I were sure we would be handed a buzzer until our table was called, so I made a joke about how the music sounded like something to bang to. Surprisingly we were seated immediately. Oh, and that comment about the sex music isn't a bad thing!
For starters, the menu is extensive. If you do plan to come here, familiarize yourself with the online menu first. Â We ordered the bottomless tortillas (Pickadippa) with the Pineapple Habenero, Avocado Tomatillo, and the Fire-Roasted Tomato Chipotle. Â Our entrees were the Fajita Burrita and the Mondo Combo Fajito. Again, we didn't wait long for our appetizer or our entrees considering this was a Saturday night after 6. Â
Besides the journey our taste buds were taken on, my buddy had an unnerving bathroom experience. From what he heard, someone in the next stall was moaning and mentioned something about a certain "video" on his laptop.  Bathroom crazies exist, I get that.  The look on my buddy's face when upon returning to the table was a glorious combination of  shocked and livid.
Second, Mad Mex hardly seems like the place for kids. There is a kids menu, except I couldn't see bringing younger children here and risk them having nightmares from the Day of The Dead skeletons on the ceilings...unless you wanted to punish them for disrupting dinner.
This place in my book deserves more than one trip. If not for the food and drinks, just go to have a blast with your friends. Â And, what a way to end a meal with a Mexican Brownie and an Ice Cream Burrrito!
The burittos were amazing, they stuffed them so much, but they were lacking with the meat portion. Â I like how they have series of salsa that you can choose from. Â The original is very chunky. Â But Mad Mex is known for their margarita's and they were really strong, girlfriend had one and she was feeling it. Â The place was a little dark and too loud for a restaurant.
Review Source:There's a stigma towards chains which I'll never understand. There's a lot of "Oh..it's a chain?" going around.
I guess it's because chains' food are for the most part consistently sub-par. However, there are always exceptions. Bonefish and Maggiano come to mind. To be honest, Mad Mex, deserve to be on this list as well. I genuinely believe many people expect too much from chains like Mad Mex.
My advice when it comes to chains:
Lower your expectations and most importantly:
**Order only what's good**
Examples:
Bonefish- bang bang shrimps
Maggiano- calamari
Mad Mex- Fish tacos
What I had & also recommend to you:
1) Grilled or fried fish tacos- Delicious and satisfying. Portions were generous (you could do w/o appetizers). Came with 3 tacos with rice, beans, and sides of guacamole and sour cream. Fried fish was crispy outside and tender inside. Grilled fish was cooked well with a nice smooth, succulent texture
2) Fried Chicken wings: Honey chipotle BBQ sauce... .yummy! Â Crisp texture and a golden-brown crust.
3) Margaritas: So the Margarita may be a slightly gringo fad but the ones here are actually quite good.
4) Service: Outstanding. Our server was friendly, all smiles, attentive, and helpful.
I'm a fan of this place!
Definitely will come back here one day from 10-12pm to have the $7 big azz (22oz) margaritas. :)
Our Friday night visit to Mad Mex in Willow Grove more than met our expectations! Â
When we got there, it was quite busy, so we put our name in. Â We then went and sat at the bar, which I must say had a superb beer selection. Â We each got a beer and were soon given some chips and salsa while we waited.
Our table was ready well before we finished our beer and the booth was right next to an open-air window. Â Great seats to say the least --esp. for a nice cool late summer night (ladies, bring a sweater in case there's a breeze).
Waitress gave great recommendation to try carnitas. Â I will therefore recommend the carnitas burrito.
Great experience. Â Only negative is that we had to park next to the dumpster.
I really like Mad Mex and was excited that they put one in the suburbs, close to home. Â The location is kind of odd -- it's just in a strip mall, but it is a cute place with all of the expected Day of the Dead decor along with some really nice murals.
I asked the waitress for her recommendation because I always end up getting the same thing -- the grilled fish tacos, which were fantastic. Â Our waitress had a lot of great ideas including "anything carnitas" so I decided to try the carnitas quesadilla. Â It was great. Â The meat was very flavorful and the other accompaniments inside the quesadilla went well with the dish.
There wasn't a table available when we arrived and they estimated a 15-20 minute wait, which was right on. Â They text you when your table is ready -- I've not seen that before, but I liked it better than carrying around one of those light-up germ bricks that they have a lot of chain restaurants. Â The bar wasn't very crowded, so we were able to grab two seats and enjoy a beer each off of their impressive craft beer list. Â They have the usual Mexican beers, but they have a lot of local and surprisingly seasonal beers that hit the spot. Â I wasn't expecting to be able to have the hard-to-find Great Lakes Nosferatu in a bottle, let alone on tap! Â It was great. Â
I might give Mad Mex a 5 if not for the little dollop of $1.50 guacamole I received. Â It was good guac, but for a $1.50, I think it's a bit of a rip-off. Â The parking is also a pretty bad situation -- try driving around back and down the side of the lot at the far end of the lot -- you'll find a spot, but you might have to walk a bit. Â I was surprised about some of the lower-star reviews for this place -- I've been here a few times and only had positive experiences. Â It's a really fun place with fun food and a great atmosphere.
A strong 3-star review, bordering on 4-star. Â Kinda cool inside, with a "grafiti-meets-large-dark-restaurant wall look." Â Different. Â Decent size bar, several TVs to catch the game, and nice seating both inside and outside (where they can open/close there garage-door type of windows, depending upon the outside weather). Â Large menu, complete with your standard Tex-Mex offerings, plus some not-so-standard fare. Â Hubby opted for salad with scallops in a tangy, fruity dressing. Â He loved it. Â I went for the steak fajita's, which were quite good, the steak was nicely seasoned and tender. Â Portions are huge. Â We shared the black bean dip appy, which was mightly tasty too. Â Nice draught and craft beer selections, along with the usual margarhitas, mojitos, etc. Â Â Service was good.
Parking here can be a nightmare, especially during peak restaurant times. Â Be prepared to be annoyed, as you drive around looking for a spot or you can take advantage of the valet parking (not sure if there is a charge for this or not).
During our trip to Willow Grove I was told that Mad Mex was pretty good. Â It was a decent place to have lunch, but I would skip this spot if you are looking for authentic Mexican food. Â I ordered the corn and chicken burrito and my husband ordered the tortilla soup. Â The soup could have used more spice. Â I loved the goat cheese in my chicken and corn burrito, but the burrito shell was overwhelming in size so it had to be folded over multiple times. Â When I bit in the burrito I could only taste the burrito shell and rice and could barely taste the chicken or cheese. Â I gave up and tore open the burrito and ate the middle with a fork. Â The burrito is a seasonal item so it will be off the menu soon.
Positives:
1. Friendly employees. Â The manager stopped by our table and asked how our meal was.
2. Prompt service.
3. Cool decor and atmosphere.
4. Resonable prices.
Negatives:
1. No free chips and salsa. Â Boo!!!!
2. Lackluster Mexican food. Â
All in all, not terrible for a chain restaurant. Â Personally, I wasn't a fan of the bland Tex-Mex style food so I would go elsewhere if I visited Willow Grove again.
SO glad we finally tried this place! What a pleasant surprise! Never imagined a chain Mexican joint at the end of a strip mall in the 'burbs could be so cool.
Love love the decor. Â Our food was great. I can't express how everything was much better than expected. Even a decent kids menu selection for Mexican. We'll definitely be back. Next time sans kids & we'll indulge in the tequila flight which looked very inviting;)
The only reason it's 4 stars & not 5 is for somewhat inconsistent service i.e. left waiting too long for service then 3 different people asking if we needed anything at another time. Â Also, I wish the waitress gave me a heads up to the spicy sauce & seasonings on the grilled corn on the cob knowing I was ordering the corn for my toddler. Had to send it back & order another that took veryyyy long...
Overall - Glad Mad Mex came to Willow Grove & will definitely be back !:)
The first time I had Mad Mex was when I went to school in Pittsburgh and it was a walking distance from campus. Â This was my go-to places for late night eats on happy hour (half off wings and food). Â It's one of the places that I do miss about Pittsburgh if anything.
Well, imagine my surprise when I bumped into one not so far from my parent's home in Philly recently. Â I didn't have time that weekend to go but I placed it at the top of my list the next time I was back. Â
Right off the bat, I noticed instantly this place was so much better in terms of space and atmosphere. Â It was much roomier, more seating area and less dark. Â Always a plus - I like to see my food when I eat. Â However, my sister did comment that the place was not crowded on a Friday night- only a scatter of folks around. Â I told her it could be the location and shrugged it away.
So I sat down with my sister and after looking at the menu (as if I needed to), I immediately put my order down for San Francisco wings (large, please) and guac and chips (large please). Â My sister ordered the strawberry margarita which came pretty quickly but it was not in the typical margarita glass. Â It just came in a large cylinder glass. Â Ok, whatever. Â Not being too picky since I didn't drink but it didn't make for a good photo. =P
When the food came, the wings were just how I remembered but then again, my memory's been a bit fuzzy so I may need to make a special trip back to Pittsburgh to compare. =P Â The guac was pretty good but way too stingy on portion to go with the huge basket of tortilla chips. Â The ratio was way off. Â I mean come on, for let's not be stingy for $7 a plate. Â Salsa wasn't too bad but I prefer the guac more. Â I would have been much happier if we were able to replace the salsa with another bowl of guac. Â Too bad I didn't ask if that was even an option.
Anyways after we finished everything, I asked for the check. Â And that was when my happiness of the place went straight down the tube. Â The food did not come out to be half off at all. Â I reconfirmed with the waitress and she said each place is different in terms on happy hour prices.
Hmm, ok, so the two places I went to in Pittsburgh had half offs on food and the place I went to in Penn State had half offs on food, BUT only this place in willow grove did not. Â I see. Â So, this place wanted to be different then and I guess this difference is why I can see the lack of people attending this joint.
Well, that will be the last time I come here, because why would I need to pay full price for something that I can get half after 10pm in other locations. Â No thanks. Â Moral of the story, never assume all restaurants are made equal and always read yelp reviews on any new location.
Edit: 9.25.12 - so another yelper told me that they do have happy hour specials which I did not see a sign for. Â 4:30-6:30 - wings are half off Mon-Fri, which doesn't help me any since I don't live there, but anyone else is welcome to try out their California wings.
I had my first Mad Mex here and I was pleasantly surprised. We have authentic taquerias nearby, so it's hard to validate spending more money on tacos and such, but this place brings so much more to the table.
The decor is awesome- a def. day of the dead inspiration with great murals on the walls that somehow are not overwhelming or gaudy. The food was great- the hubby and I split steak tacos and a chicken quesadilla and it was all so delicious. It was mid-day Saturday and the place was deserted.
The beer list is also great! All in all, we'll be back for sure.
When I heard they were putting a Mad Mex here I was a little surprised. Â It is not the best site for what will hopefully be a busy restaurant, the parking is not great at all.
I have been there twice, the first time it was super busy, the wait was about 25 minutes, but they text you when your table is ready. Â This would be great, but the bar isn't that big, and there is nowhere near to go and window shop for a few minutes.
The food the first time was good, not great, and I was disappointed by my margarita. Â My friend got the fajitas and only got 2 tortillas, and had to ask for more, or eat her fajitas sans tortilla.
The 2nd visit was a little earlier in the day, and mid week, so we were sat without a problem. Â My margarita was WAY better. Â The salsa was good, but the chips way too salty. Â I got the fajitas this time, and they were ok, but the serving size was a little small. Â Unlike my friend at the last visit, I had too many tortillas and not enough meat.
I think it's just a little too pricy for just decent food, it could be stepped up a notch. Especially when La Morena Taqueria is 5 minutes away and has superb food at a great price.
UPDATE:  Everything is right on here...except the FLOUR TORTS they serve with orders, except for the Chimi.  They need to use Bandera  or Guererro brand versus whatever cardboardy brand they are using.
FINALLY. Â Good Mexican food in the neighborhood!
I felt great as soon as I walked in the door and spied the Dia de Los Muertos art everywhere.
The food is delicious. Â The spices are great. Â Try the Pineapple Habanero. Â it will smole your socks off. Â The Chimi ($10) was really good, with a nice sauce on top.
The guacamole is nice and chunky. Â I ordered an Herradura Margar ($6). Â it was just like mom used to make.
Mad Mex...you make my heart sing!
All just in time for Stinky de Mayo
I love that they brought Mad Mex to Willow Grove! The decor is super fun and resembles the one at Penn State with maybe a bit less voodoo of a design.
Always a great beer selection and the food is very tasty. I'm quite the fan of their specialty burritos per season/holiday. I haven't had a bad server yet and they are always very accommodating when you're not pleased with something.
Two notes:
-the happy hour gets ridiculously crowded
and
-something needs to be done about the parking situation. i've easily driven around for 15 minutes hunting down a spot.
We went there on a beautiful day in the spring. Â The decor was awesome and the open windows helped the atmosphere. Â The Margaritas were great with the extra lime boat filled with Gran Marnier. The fajitas were wonderful. Â My husband's meal was delicious as well. Â
There were two things that bothered us. Â The chips that came with the pico de gallo were from a bag, like salty Fritos. Â We expected homemade chips. Â And beside us was some of the off duty staff. Â We gleaned this from their loud conversation. Â The person wouldn't sit down and was quite loud. Â She was wearing her pants firmly belted around her thighs as if her "boxers" were something to be admired. Â We even shot a picture of her because we thought it may be a joke. Â
This restaurant is wonderful.  But the staff's dress attire while off duty  in the dining area is rather inappropriate.  Once these kinks are worked out, this place will be a gem!!
I get spoiled living in the city but this place defines A-OK in my opinion. I had lunch here on a Saturday with a group of 5 and we all had a good time getting fat while tying on a mid afternoon buzz. The red sangria was different, in a good way, but I was not a big fan of the classic "big azz" margarita, wayyyyyyy too sweet. The 3 dip variety is worth a try as I enjoyed the pico de gallo, cheese dip and guacamole which comes with nicely salted chips (not homemade though). The spicy mad mex burrito was pretty standard as it reminded me of Chipotle or Qdoba. Don't be intimidated, its really not that spicy either until you add extra hot sauce.
Unfortunately it was a rainy day so we didn't get to take advantage of the outdoor seating or sitting near the windows which open. Overall this place has a nice vibe for a place in the burbs which is why I'm giving it 3 stars. This place is much needed in Willow Grove and I will probably go back some other time I'm in the area.
Excellent food, the portions are very well sized for the price, and flavorful as well. I enjoy the carnitas burrito whenever I come here, you get so much food, you have to save some for lunch the next day.
Beer selection is great as well, I'm not really a beer snob, but its fun to get to sample all the crazy ones they have on tap. I would say come for happy hour and get them from half price.
Overall, its a very welcome addition to the Willow Grove area. Will return.
yup, wanted to like this place a lot, but ended up walking out saying "we wont be back."
Decor: great! spent lots of money on the place. Cool, hip vibe with loud music (not latin, but hip enough). Owner skimped out on hot water heaters for bathroom sinks..really??? we live north of the Mason Dixon guys, just a heads up.
Drinks: Mango Margarita was average at best, ice with mango syrup, no tequila tasted at all. Sangria tasted like fruit punch with no wine taste, no fruit in carafe either: let down. Waiter brings out carafe (pitcher) with 1 glass, did he really think 1 person was going to finish that???
Apps: Guac. was missing lime and salt, no flavor. Chips were ok. Salsa was the best thing thus far.
Dinner: rice and beans were tasteless (again the salt and seasoning issue). Wife's fish tacos were overcooked. I had the carnitas enchiladas: overcooked the pork as well, but this was the best dish we had once we got over the overcooking issue. Food came out in like 4 minutes, we felt rushed. I can understand its Friday night, but this place really cares about turning tables many times over is how we felt. one other positive was some form of Guacamole corn bread.
Service: bartender was blah, our server was a robot. asked us how everything was, I said 'ok' - he said "awesome."
good to experience once, but thats about it.
Mad Mex is tucked into a small strip mall at the corner of Fitzwatertown Road and Welsh Road. I never would have noticed this place if it wasn't for the rants I heard from a few of my friends. Â
My brother and I stopped in for lunch on the Monday after New Years weekend. Â After you open the large brown doors you pass through a funky vestibule and into the main area of the restaurant. Â The dining area has an open floor plan with a high ceiling and very colorful walls. Â The bar is to the left of the hostess stand and it has a large projection TV Â that is flanked by (2) 42" flat screens. Â Its actually a good spot to watch a game.
First the specials:
They have a regular happy our and a late night happy hour 10p-12p.
$7 margaritas (22oz) Â
Tuesday & Thursday 10p-12p 1/2 off drafts
Happy Hour 4:30-6:30 half off wings and drafts. $7 22oz margaritas
They had a few lunch specials that were very good deals.  I got the Chimichanga and  salad for $9.75.  I tried the house creamy vinaigrette and it was awesome.  When my meal arrived it came with nice portions of pico, sour cream, guac, rice and beans.  Everything looked to be fresh and cooked to order as the waitress stated when we placed our order.
My brother tried the pulled pork Burrito. Â To my amazement he loved it! Â He's not a fan of Mexican food so I knew this place was on top of their game. Â Its a large Burrito so you will not go home hungry.
For all the beer geeks out there and I know there are a lot of US, they have about 15-20 drafts on tap. Â I tried a 21st Amendment Winter Ale. Â It was a dark ale with a fantastic flavor. Â They had Green Flash IPA as well as one of Victory's Barley Wine's that I have only seen at the Downingtown Brewery.
Mad Mex has landed on my favorite's list.
Against my better judgement I returned to Mad Mex, attracted by several harder to find seasonal beers on tap. The first three that I ordered were no longer available, but the board had not been updated. I settled for Sierra Nevada Celebration, which was good as always. Â Food wise, I went a different direction this time. I had the chick pea chili and the house salad. The chick pea chili was surprisingly good, with the flavor coming from the tomatoes and tomatillos. It was almost like a vegetarian green chili made with chick peas rather than pork. I would have preferred a few other vegetables in there, but it really was one of the better vegetarian chilis that had in a long time, and not made with beans! Â The salad was run of the mill, large in size.
So now I am willing to go back, again. There still are huge flaws in there food here, but there are also a few winners. Perhaps they will eventually get their act together.
Why, WHY can't I find a replacement for Tortillas??
We went on Sunday night after the big Friday night opening. We had the Pickadippa Sampler with guacamole, salsa and queso served with fresh, warm chips. The guacamole was actually really good and the queso had some good spice and tasted like it had some beer mixed in. That part was good.
For entrees I had the Dance Marathon Enchiladas with chicken, mushrooms and spinach. They were very flavorful but served lukewarm. If they were piping hot I think they would have been a solid 4-star. The place was crowded but not super busy BUT it was opening weekend so I suppose I should grant them a hall pass.
T had the Mad Mex enchiladas with steak. He said they were okay but kind of bland.
I think we'll give it another whirl but I was hoping to be more impressed.
