Only came here since I had a discount from an online site. Â
Horrible bar food and I have no plans to return.
The place was practically dead when I went so I had the waitress all to myself pretty much, so the service was acceptable. Â The decor was sub par which really doesn't bother me as long as the food is up to snuff. Â
Ordered a burger that tasted like crud off the bottom of their storage room with a hint of bacteria and sick-inducing properties. Â The waffle fries were of the lowest grade frozen type with the lowest quality cheese and sour cream piled on you could find at Walmart. Â And the chili was a soupy mess swimming in oil. Â Needless to say we both left 90% of our food, paid the bill and walked out. Â I got home and made some real food to wash away the sludge I'd just eaten.
The waitress added 18% tip to the check when we submitted our discounted printout. Â I didn't argue as I was going to give her 15% anyway, but it's kind of sleazy to add an 18% tip to the check just because I'm using an online discount and I clearly was not happy with the food having just asked for a check with little eaten. Â (And I've used over 20 online discounted printouts, the type you get from groupon, etc., and never had the tip added for me.)
The food just isn't good, not even as bar food. Â Maybe the place is good to pickup a local snaggletooth hick at the bar if that's your thing. Â Not sure how this place stays in business. Â But it's not getting any more of mine.
I work across the street from Maggie's, and absolutely love to visit on my lunch.
There is plenty of space, no worries about not getting a seat. They have free popcorn if you can't wait until your food arrives, and a good selection of menu options. The wait staff are friendly and the owner, Maggie, has even stopped by my table to chat and make sure everything was perfect.
The portions- OH MY. Go hungry! I've never finished my whole meal.
My personal favorites include the Buffalo Chicken Sub, Cheesesteak, and the Quesadillas. You can upgrade your homemade chips to fries- but the chips are SO GOOD, try them!
I go on my lunch break, so I can't comment on the bar, but there are usually a few people sitting at the bar and they do carry some craft beer.
ALSO- you can usually find a coupon for them on LivingSocial or http://Restaurant.com. For whatever reason, they must have trouble bringing in business. I haven't figured it out yet, but I'll take $10 off my bill any day.
Did I mention yet that it is CLEAN? The bathrooms are immaculate, and that's really saying something. So many great places have horrid restrooms. Maggie's is a step above.
Service is quick and friendly, food is reasonably priced and delicious.
Horrible service. I've never experienced a more unwelcoming bar in my life. I walked in for a quick beer on a Thursday evening around 7PM, sat at the near empty bar. Bartender spent first five minutes chatting with friends at other end of bar, then walked right past me without acknowledging I existed and went away for another 5 minutes. When she came back, walked right past me again, didn't acknowledge I existed, went back to chatting with her friends. I gave her a courtesy 3 more minutes just in case, then I got up and walked out without being served or even acknowledge I existed. Can't imagine why I would ever walk into this place again, ever.
Review Source:I used to go here quite often, as a recreational sports league I'm involved with had been doing business with Maggie's for an after-game hangout. Â The food is good and the portions are quite generous. Â There is a decent beer selection on tap (they have a selection of about 8-10 beers). Â The service is rather slow though when it comes to ordering food, which knocks a star off of the rating.
Definitely come for the food, and the beer, and the TVs showing sporting events, but expect to wait a long time for said food.
Went there because it was close to my house. The first time I went the food was good and service decent. The second and third time I went I waited 20min for service to not even receive it. No one came. If you want service this isn't the place for you. If you want to just sit there for no reason it's for you.
Review Source:My wife expected this place to be awful. Â Boy was she wrong. Â
It was such a beautiful night, that I wanted to sit outside and eat something simple. Â Even if that meant sitting in a fake plastic-thatched tiki-hut right off Western Avenue. Â
My only fear was that given the Giant's training camp, and this place also being a sports bar, the outside patio would be jammed packed on a Saturday night. Â
Well, god knows where the Giant's fans go, but it certainly wasn't to Maggie's. Â Lucky us. Â The service was warm and attentive. Â The food was fine. Â The beer was cold. Â And the outside patio was perfect for my season.
But back to the food. Â The portions were gigantic. Â Everyone could have been served a half portion and left full. Â Instead I gorged on my eggplant parm sandwich and yam fries. Â It was all certainly a great value, but personally I'd still prefer less food and lower prices. Â I realize I'm an outlier.
The chicken wings (hot el-fuego style extra-crispy) were very disappointing. Â The yam fries were only a little disappointing. Â There was nothing medium-rare about the burgers, but that was probably for the best. Â The sandwiches were solid. Â The onion rings were dynamite. Â The waffle fries were pretty darn good too. Â
Next time, I'm going to try the greens and beans. Â But I do love places like this. Â Especially on warm days with cool breezes.
