You're typical dive bar type of place with TV's. I love they have a little fire here that if you wanted to sit around you could. I think that has been mentioned before.
Another great place with good drinks and very "divy" feeling. I enjoy the atmosphere and the drinks are very plentiful. The food is typical bar fare, although I have not eaten on this stop. I have eaten here on other visits and regretted. Too greasy and fat, but it has everything a bar going person could want: video poker, a juke box and a nice big area with a fire. Couldn't ask for more.
It's tough to get in / out of at rush hour though so be careful if you're going in at HH. Enjoy!
Friendly staff, and decent prices for beer and mixed drinks. Always have had a great time at this bar. They remembered my favorite flavors for food and drink after 2 times of being into this location. Even though I did not order a drink even close to my normal favorite the first few times I came in. The bartender remembered I liked maraschino cherries from ordering them to be added to my 7up. Even gave me a few on the side when it doesn't come with the certain mix drink I ordered! Just cause she knew I liked them.( and at no extra charge of course)
Review Source:Small bar located near Providence and busy intersection of Jenkins where locals gather to sing karaoke and drink beer. Really laid back. Pretty small so gets packed on special occasions like G33ky Karaoke. Pool table available, virtual golf game is affordable, and gambling is also an option (seen three different people win $50~$100 on slot machine... I was not so lucky (lol). I am not big fan of drinking alcohol, but this is where I like to hang out with my friends sometimes, so I order the burger which is just AMAZING. Juicy meat topped with fresh vegetables with side of fries. Great to share as they do not skimp out on quantity either. No worries about people getting into fights or becoming so intoxicated it would endanger surrounding customers. It's relatively safe, fun environment you don't need to hit Portland for a drink.
Review Source:Way back when I first moved to Beaverton, some ten or so years ago, I used to frequent Maguffy's for lunch. Â They made killer sandwiches and the fish and chips were first rate. Â Over the years I have been there on and off...and I will admit, with less frequency.
Last night I was jonesing pretty bad for Fish and Chips, damn you Travel Channel and your Fried Food Paradise, so Mona and I headed over.
I was impressed by the remodel, the place looks great and should have been busier then it was, it being Monday Night Football night and all. Â They were even setting up two Texas Holdem tables for their Monday Nite Poker Tournament.
It did not take me long to figure out why they were so dead. Â
We took a table close to the bar and had to listen to ten minutes of chatter between the ongoing and off going bartenders, who had their backs to the customers the entire time.
I was able to grab the off going bartender as she was delivering some food to another customer to ask for a couple of menu's and two soda's. Â In return I got a look that I can only describe as shocked that I had dared to interrupt her.
The menu's were delivered about 10 minutes later along with our soda's, both of which were flat.
The menus has been greatly reduced, but the Fish and Chips were still there and according to the bartender, they were batter dipped in house. Â OK, sounds good, Mona ordered the Philly Cheese Steak.
It took about 20 minutes to get our food, the bartender was nice enough to replace our flat ones after I pointed it out to her. Â She explained that "the tank was full, the guy jiggled it around some and it seems OK now.".
Glad to see that bartenders take the time to learn their equipment these days.
Anyway, the food was great.
The fish appeared to be real cod and was done maybe just a hair too well for my taste, as were the fries. Â There was no malt vinegar on the table or offered, funny for a supposed Irish Pub. Â The Philly was stuffed full of meat , onions and cheese.
Long story short, I hate it when good food is ruined by indifferent service.
I am sure it would be fine place to sit and the bar and drink, but the table service seemed to be lacking.
My advice to the owner would be to hire some "Professional Bartenders" and have a cocktail/bar back/waitress to handle the table crowd.
Maybe it's the location.
Maybe it has a bad feng shui.
I don't think the management change was pretty evident when we went last week. The service from the bar tenders are still slow, though they are trying and we gave them a heads up that there's atleast 30 people that will go there on a specific date and time.
The place is clean with two or three pool tables. Huge screen TVs. Video poker machines, and the redeeming factor on why I don't mind going here is the fireplace. It's still there as well.
This is your typical dive bar. If the neighboring bars and restaurants are full to the brim after work. This might be the next best thing if you don't have patience.
Well, they've got new management now, and new bartenders (a few at least), and there's a free pool night (though suddenly I can't remember what night it is... meh!) so it's not as terrible as it used to be.
Though, I still only go when there's a bunch of us going after work, and even then, I think we go mainly because it's right next door to us.
I have never had so many unfulfilling trips to this "West of England wannabe" pub in my life. I live within walking distance and I can't stand to call this place Irish as it is the epitome of being the exact opposite of what an Irish pub is supposed to be. I accompanied Dan H. during my most recent trip and when the KJ ends karaoke and leaves others that want to karaoke just sitting there without having sung a note...that just places the writing on the wall. The employees are rude at best, and the place has a depressing dark feeling. I am not down on many places, but even with the convenience that Maguffy's offers, I will gladly designate a driver and head on down to The Dublin any time!
Review Source:Maguffy's Pub is a place I've found myself in far too many times (6 to be exact). The return visits are by no means out of desire, but out of necessity since maguffy's is within walking distance from a friend's house. And sometimes driving just isn't an option.
Maguffy's isn't a terrible place; their food is okay, their beer slection is about what you'd expect from a dive Irish pub. They also have karaoke on Friday and Sat nights, which is some of the most uninteresting and least lively karaoke I've ever seen. Plus last time we were there, the KJ ended the karaoke for the evening with her singing, when my friend had been waiting a while, and it was by no means busy there that night. Thus, it resulted in a very subpar experience.
The bartenders there aren't terribly friendly  and rarely make an appearance outside of the bar area. Also they wouldn't let  us start playing pool at 12:15 because they close at 1:00am.  Which was quite dismaying to us.
Needless to say Maguffy's is probably a place that I shall not visit again. But hey if you don't want to drive, you live nearby, and you have a hankering for some cheap domestic schwag brew then you will have an average time at this location.
Its funny, the name Maguffy stems from the root word, Maguffin, which in Gaelic means lackluster. Â I guess Maguffy's lives up to its name. Â
(I lied I know no Gaelic.)
