Maharaja moved into what used to be the breakfast place behind almalfi under new  management. I was so excited to hear Indian was coming back to Narragansett. First of all, the food was TO DIE FOR. Amazing spices, and huge portions for lunch. If you  enjoy indian food do not pass up this awesome restaurant. Exceeded my expectations, and i'm going to go out on a limb and say best indian in Rhode Island.
Review Source:now i've only been once and i will be giving them a second chance but this was my experience. first the drinks, i ordered a "dark and stormy" which is supposed to be ginger beer and dark rum. what i got was ginger ale, lite beer, and dark rum in a plastic cup with no ice. very gross. next my appetizer was ice cold. the service was slow and inexperienced and very very young. my entree was great, the proportions are pretty small. although i wanted my entree inhumanly spicy, they asked me to rate how spicy on a scale of 1-10, i said 10. and meant it!! what i got was maybe a 6. perhaps they were thinking something like "crazy white lady can't handle real spicy indian food"
Review Source:Have gone to the Sunday Brunch buffet twice and I am a fan. The star of the buffet is the Chicken Tikka Masala, which is the best I have had anywhere in RI or the Northeast since the Indian Club closed in East Greenwich a couple of years ago.The Naan was tasty, but it needs that char and fresh coriander taste to really make it stand out.I have yet to try the rest of the menu but if it matches the quality of the CTM it is all good. This is the only authentic Indian restaurant outside of Providence for MILES around. This fact is astounding to me,because Indian food is so delicious and relatively inexpensive I can't understand why more Americans aren't aware of it or are intimidated by it.I hope Maharaja survives,as southern RI is already over saturated with Italian, and a multitude of steak, seafood, and burger options.Good though they may be, it's nice to finally have the option for quality Indian cuisine in southern RI.There were many ethnic Indian patrons when I was there and that can only be a good thing. However,to really succeed they need to get the local community to come to the restaurant. The outside bar is very attractive, and the view of the ocean is outstanding.
Review Source:Went there last night. Very nice setting; outdoor patio overlooking water.Incidentally, there was an outdoor concert nearby, so music was nice. Â All food was delicious. Â The problem was the service. Long delay before drinks were served (beer got warn while waiting at the bar). Â Apps served O.K. Entrees were "staggered"; served one after another w/ several minutes delay between 3 and 4th one was "forgotten" and came out after everyone else was almost done. Â The waitstaff were very friendly though. Â With a service tune-up, this place could be excellent. It's hard enough to find good Indian food in this area.
Review Source:My wife and I went to Narragansett to find someplace we had never been to eat. We were happy to find Maharaja. The service was great. Our waitress was very attentive and pleasant.
The food was very good. And we took almost as much home with us as we ate. We had dinner for 2 with leftovers for $45 (with no alcoholic beverages). Plus a decent view of the water. Unfortunately the deck was closed because of the weather.
Indian food, by the ocean, on a deck .. can't really beat that overall scenario. The food was pretty good (2 starrish) , the view was great, right above the beach (add a star for that) .. i don't think there are too many other restaurants/bars with views this nice around here. Service was pretty good for the off-hour we were there.
We did overhear one waitress sitting at the bar say that she thought an indian restaurant at the beach was stupid and it should just be a burger place. Parking lot was kinda junk and people around here just dont know how to properly drive.
We had high expectations for Maharaja, and the food did not disappoint! Â However, as mentioned previously, the wait was horrendous. Â I think we caught them on the first night they had a fairly full house, and it caused them to panic. Â We had a party of 7 (we called ahead and made reservations) and it took 2 hours to get our meal. Â And, they forgot our naan, and only brought one small bowl of rice for all of us to share. Â When we asked for more rice, it took almost 20 mins... which makes me think they don't have a big pot ready-made in the back like they should since almost every entree comes with rice. Â I think it will just take some time for them to really get a rhythm down, but opening right before the tourists invade Narragansett for the summer may not have been the best idea. Â As a "native" year-rounder, I'm hoping Maharaja survives, because we need some nice, non-Italian restaurants down here! Â We'll definitely be back in a couple months and hope that all the kinks have been worked out!
Review Source:We stumbled into Maharaja on a whim, wondering when it had turned from Italian to Indian. Apparently, the restaurant had opened only 9 days earlier! Despite the fact that the place was brand-spanking new, our dining experience was seamless. The food came out quickly, it was delicious, and our server, Stephanie, was attentive and friendly. The chef was willing to accommodate dietary requests. Prices are average for higher-end local Indian dining. I hope this place catches on for summertime because I would be sad if it didn't last! Finally, fantastic Indian cuisine in South County!
Review Source:In the building that used to house Amalfi. Â For only being open a week, they did a spectacular job. Â The service was friendly, the dishes were delicious, the setting was nice. Â Looking forward for warmer weather and spending some time on the deck with a great view of the beach.
There were a few things listed on the menu that they are not offering yet, but a great selection and i am looking forward to going back and getting the gulab jamun and navratan korma. Â
Get in there and try it before the tourists descend!
