    Good food. Fun trivia.

Now first off - I've only ever come for trivia on Wednesday nights. But I come here almost every Wednesday night. And I keep coming back because it is awesome.

Food - great.  The apps are all half priced after nine on Wednesdays and they are big portions and delicious. The dinners - also great.  The godfather sandwich is a must try. Delicious.

Drinks - $3/4 - hells yea.  Good beer selection (above average for a bar) and super cheap. Come. Drink. Awesome.

Trivia - amazing. So much fun. The dude is great and runs a great game. We rock at it though so don't bother trying to compete against us!

Went for the Sunday brunch.  Food was delicious.  Nice variety and set up.  They keep it filled.  It's a great deal at $15 pp.  Owners and staff all very pleasant.  Would go back!

Good food, great place, what more can I say?  I never had a bad meal here, everything on the menu is excellent!

This is our go to spot for Friday lunches when we have a rough week and the beer and food always hit the spot.  If you see the Asian noodle salad, get it!

This may be a good bar, but DO NOT GO THERE FOR REAL FOOD! Epic fail!

We had five people in our party, not one dish was good.  Here's the quick breakdown:

    1)  My chili - There was some herb in it that was totally overpowering.  I figured out it was bay when I found a leaf in the chili (not a problem that the leaf was in the chili, just really not good chili at all).  The bay completely overpowered the chili

    2)  "Kobe beef" burger served on a pretzel bun.  My husband ate the bun.  I am sure it was not kobe beef, he asked for it cooked medium rare, it was cooked well done and just didn't taste good either.  I wonder if the kitchen even questioned why they sent out a plate of fries, a burger, and veggies for the burger on the plate and the only thing left on the plate when it went back to the kitchen was the burger itself with 2 bites missing

    3)  Fish & Chips.  I smelled the fish coming to the table from 3 tables down.  Gross.

    4)  Spinach Salad.  How do you mess up a spinach salad?  I'll tell you, you order it with chicken and chicken is overcooked to the point of being saw dust.  Oh, and there was a bowl of spinach with one olive and one cherry tomato.  Quality control?

    5)  French dip - probably most edible item received and it was just "meh" according to my daughter.

I will pass on this restaurant.  Too much competition in the area.  I haven't eaten there in about 8 years, now I know I didn't miss anything.  If the owners read these reviews, you guys need to step it up.  This place is really cool and could be so much better!

Oh, last note.  We originally wanted to order the pretzel stick appetizers, but we forgot when the waitress came to take our order.  I wonder why she didn't ask us if we wanted appetizers?  Upsell 101.  Might want to refresh training on the waitstaff too.

Decent neighborhood bar and grill, glorified Friday's quality. Wed. Night trivia brings a big crowd.

Surprisingly good food, and in particular the chicken nachos, wings, and wide selection of beers stand out from the rest.  I have only been here on Wednesdays for trivia night but am looking forward to trying the rest of the food on other weekdays as well.  $5 appitizers on Wednesday nights make this a compelling choice for locals.

Great bar food. Great trivia night.

I regularly attend trivia night on Wednesdays with a large group of friends. The food is good and everything on the specials menu is $5 on Wednesday nights. Definitely try the wings here as they are excellent. I have seen the full entrees and salads and they look decent, although I have never tried them myself.

Trivia night is a lot of fun and lot of teams really get into it. The service is very attentive, although the check sometimes takes a bit too long to get dropped off.

Overall, this is a great spot to hang out, especially on Wednesday nights.

I love this restaurant as well as its sister location.  First of all, the owners are so giving, both to their communities and customers.  Further, Pierre, the Chef, could probably run a 5-Star, formal restaurant...And he brings this experience to the pages of their menu at MB&G as well as in Allendale.

I don't care which season it is...GET SOUP!  It is the best...I seriously have never had better.

Also...The staff.  These are young kids (Most of them) but the pride they take in their jobs is a direct reflection of fantastic management.  I LOVE this place and couldn't recommend it more highly.

Mediocre. Go to its counterpart in Allendale. It's much better.

We went there as part of a living social deal for snow tubing and buffet afterwards. I was so impressed by the quality of the food and the organization of how they handled the distribution. There were probably about 150 of us in the group and there were enough seating for us all and the buffet was quickly replenished. We had salad, penne, wings, pulled pork and burger sliders. The wings were crispy and the sauce was not too hot. The penne was perfectly cooked and the sauce was delicious. I was also impressed by the pulled pork sliders because the pork was very juicy and the buns were perfectly toasted. The drinks were also very reasonably priced (it was $5 for a full red cup of beer). The bar was also not over crowded. Although it was a big group, we also had waitresses coming around to ask if we needed anything and to clean up the glasses and dishes.

Great local spot for some well cooked chow and ice cold beer. Staff is always friendly, service is with a smile, and the owner always makes his way over to your table to say "hi" and to be sure your food's "doing it' for you.  We especially like Tuesdays pasta night where, you step up to the line, and your pasta is made to order right in front of you. Great spot for a casual lunch, or dinner with the family.

I have been to this place twice: first time great for a party, second time poor with my family.  Maybe the food is just good for party.

We go here fairly often because its close to home and we know a lot of the patrons...after renovtion (which is awesome), the bar is still great and yes the wings are the best! I love the buffalo shrimp as well...beer i always cold and our bartenders are very attentive! You must give it a shot!

Very disappointing... You want to like this place as a local hang with a cool atmosphere, but it just doesn't work. After 4 or so visits, they failed to win me over. The food quality is quite poor, and simply doesn't taste very good. You can sense cost-cutting all over the menu; cheap cuts of meat, watered-down dressings, and small portions. Service was not friendly or helpful. The atmosphere has potential, with a very long bar, outdoor seating, and tavern-style dining, but some additions are very out of place. Different seats, booths, and bright fluorescent lighting ruin your dinner. You leave the restaurant each time with a very heavy odor of food and grease on your clothes. Can't recommend when there's way too many cool bars in the area.

    Pros:
    Long bar
    Nice tap selection

    Cons:
    Poor food quality
    Unusual lighting
    Unclean feeling

Decent Chow  Nice Bartenders  Clean And Open Space

They where in the midst of remodeling the interior when I visited with a few friends so that taken in to consideration The Mahwah Bar & Grill is serving up some good grub at fair prices, nice selection of beers and good pours on the cocktails.

The renovations looked very nice and I would imagine completed at this point.

I wish the wings weren't so good.

If it wasn't for the wings, I would never be back. They have some of the worst wait staff I ever experienced. When you go in late at night a waitress isn't assigned to the table but instead everyone floats around, but they don't communicate at all, so don't be surprised if you get your drinks twice, or not at all.
They have a pretty good beer selection, but good luck finding out about it. The wait staff has no idea what they have and certainly can't help you pick one.
There are so many little things that if fixed, would make this place awesome, but until then, I will limit going here.

Had the godfather sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries for lunch.  The sliced prime rib was so tender but a little bit dry.  Overall, it was a very satisfying meal.

This is probably more like a 2.5 star review. This place is just ok.  We recently went to Mahwah Bar & Grill on a business trip with a group of 10.  We were promptly seated to our surprise. We soon learned the waitstaff here were a little quirky as our waitress said some pretty weird things.  For example, when someone asked her about the steak she asked if they were a steak snob.  Really?  She said the cuts weren't that great.  She then really couldn't recommend anything on the menu to really make this person want to eat there.

I decided on the fish n' chips.  The fish was cooked perfectly and was really flaky just the way it should be.  The chips were wedge fries.  They were pretty good.  The food here was just ok.  It was nothing spectacular.

The other weird thing about our waitress was when everyone was served there was one person in our party that did not receive their food.  The waitress then told him he didn't order.  He wanted the salmon and she said they ran out of the salmon earlier in the night and she would have told him that.  What?  WE ALL HEARD HIM ORDER SALMON AND SHE SAID NOTHING!  We were then told that we may want to leave soon as the college kids would be in for wing night.  To top it off their credit card machine went down and they had to use the old carbon copy slip.   I won't be back next time I'm in town.  Too many hassles.

Kind of an old stand bye for a burger, since there really is not a decent burger place closer.  We always tend to go here with a group and never anything spectacular, but never disappointing either.  They have some typical and not so typical burger combinations which makes it people friendly for the pickiest taste buds.  Very loud with a bar attached its definitely a local hangout.  Note really much to write about, we got fried pickles, nachos and a french onion soup for apps.  The pickles were good but i like them better in "chip" form, not spears cut on a bias.  The nachos with chili, "A" on the cheese and chips melting process (if you will) and the toppings, somehow everything doesn't stick together in a big clump of nacho, "B-" on the chili, a little sweet for my taste.  Burgers are always cooked to you liking, which is a plus, the Reuben was nice, with both corned beef and pastrami, the french dip looked really good, my wife shared this with a friend and they both finished their half's in record time.  My buddy got the buffalo chick wrap as usual and said its one of his favorites.  All in all always a good time with friends, bar food and a nice variety of beers.  Reasonably priced, though i cant comment since my buddy picked up the check, but still not a shot to your pocket.  Take some friends, have some beers, enjoys some good times and good food, everyone deserves it now and again.

We went on a Thursday night and arrived around 7:15 to find the parking lot about half full. I was half happy to find a parking spot but concerned as this place is usually always packed. They recently redecorated and freshly painted the whole interior of the restaurant. We loved the new furniture and the paint job was nice, but the walls were very bare, as if it was just finished an hour before we got there. We both felt the décor need some bar mirrors or some art. I ordered a cocktail and my girlfriend ordered a beer. My rum & coke came in a pint glass which was great but pretty unusual for most pubs. After we took a few sips, I ordered the sizzling chop steak which came with two sides. I chose a small side salad as one and asked for extra blue cheese as I believe salad is just a vehicle for the dressing, lettuce and croutons. :-P Well I did get a small serving of blue cheese on the side but only one container which was a disappointment. When our meal was served I received the sizzling sirloin steak and not the chopped steak I was expecting. I remembered that our server asked how I wanted my steak cooked which at the time I thought was unusual for a "Chop steak" but now realize she didn't hear my order correctly. I ate the steak because I am not one to send food back to the kitchen, and have to sit and watch my girlfriend eat her meal. The steak was tender and cooked correctly, but it lacked seasoning and I found myself salting it more than once as I ate it. This is very unusual for me as I rarely use salt. My girlfriend ordered the chicken cordon-blue special and she was pleased with her meal with the exception of her vegetable (beans & carrots) being very undercooked. The servers and staff were very friendly and I took note that "every" staffer we made eye contact with greeted us or asked how we were. It was impressive. More to the point, our drink order was taken by one server; our dinner order by a second and a third server gave us our bill. I found this pleasant but unusual as I kept seeing each of the servers pass our table during the meal. The meal was a little less than I expected for the price ($47) but I would go back.

I was a couple states away from home, and this place popped up on Yelp, so I thought I'd give it a try.  I ate outside on a beautiful day on their equally beautiful patio.  (They were remodeling the interior, and still are, I believe.  No stars deducted for that.)

The steaks aren't the best, but they are still delicious.  I tried that one with the onion ring and mushrooms (I forget its name) and loved it.  However, if you're thinking about pairing it with a side salad, don't--their side salad is just iceberg lettuce on a tiny plate, with a splash of color.  Washed it all down with some Newcastle Summer Ales.

Overall, a great place.  Didn't impress me much, but good enough that I'll gladly give it a second (or third) try whenever I'm down there.

Sister restaurant of Allendale bar and grill. Not nearly as good as ABG, the food is like ABG on an off night.

Bartenders are friendly, and the Guinness is perfect. Bar is nice.

One of the many places in Mahwah NJ I really hope I forget existed.  One of the locals at my client recommended this place.  As I got to know him I completely understand how he would like a place like this.  Me, not so much.  The food is classic bar food, but none of it was good at all.  Very strange folks in here too.

Did you seriously just put sliced tomato on my pulled pork sandwich?  Wow, really?!?  Shame on me for ordering that in a place like this.  The other half of my party ordered The Godfather which was prime rib, mozzarella, sauteed onions on a garlic roll with a horseradish dipping sauce - that was very good.  The drinks are all juice, the buffalo shrimp was small and flavorless - albeit I give them credit for not deep frying the taste out of them which didn't have much taste to begin with.  I don't think I'll be planning a return visit.  Decor is terrible, it is dirty and environment is less than inviting.  Parking lot is full so you would think otherwise.  Keep going - not the hidden gem you would think it would be.

Go on Tuesday night - Pasta Night.

We live in Mahwah but never tried this place until a friend gave us a gift certificate for two people for pasta night. We went in not knowing what to expect and ended up falling in love with it.

I thought I wasn't going to like it because I thought they meant that there would be trays of pasta sitting out to choose from. Nope, the pasta is made to order right in front of you. Whatever you want, whatever you can imagine, tons of fresh ingredients are right in front of you for the taking. You can have as much or as little as you want. We like to get little portions of a few different pastas as opposed to one big portion of one kind. The chef was absolutely fantastic and you could tell he truly enjoyed his job and wanted to make sure you were 100% satisfied and having a great time.

Soup/salad and a drink is included with the pasta buffet price (14.95). It's a bit extra if you want French Onion Soup, which I did, but they didn't charge us for it since we had the gift certificate. Very appreciated. We will be returning often.

In the area for a few weeks for training purposes and this place was recommended for Pasta night by our hotel concierge.

Upon entering, the restaurant is a bit of a maze.  We each got the pasta special which was 14.95 for all you can eat, made to order pasta, soup or salad, and beverage.  What a deal!  We proceeded to walk up to the Chef who takes your order 1 by 1 (don't fret my hungry friends, he has about ten burners going at once!).
Holy Choices Chef!  There are about 30 sauces and veggies, 10 meats, and 6 pastas to mix and match.  This equals endless opportunity and really full bellies :)

I had the balsamic cream (great taste but very strong with basalmic), garlic cream (little more watery than I expected), and pink vodka (flames right in front of you, great taste).

Few things to note- he adds veggie stock to each pasta cream so waters it down a bit, the fried eggplant is amazing, when you ask for all spices he dumps a ton of red peper which is great if you like a bit of spice in your life.

Service was a bit below average but the Pasta Chef was so great I still give them four stars.

One other thing- on the board of events it listed trivia night for Wednesday but when I called on Wednesday they said whoops we are not having it.  Therefore I would call ahead if you attending an event.

I went to the Sunday brunch buffet with my husband. We were both very disappointed. The selection was small, and the food did not look or taste fresh. We had the eggs (dry and old), potatoes (decent flavor, but no browning). waffle (soggy), deep fried pineapple french toast (could have been good if it was fresh), corned beef hash (cubed boiled potatoes with minced corned beef, with no browning at all), fruit (terrible watermelon, bad grapes- the pineapple and honeydew were fine), and donuts (which were fine, but could have been purchased at Dunkin Donuts). On the bright side, the mimosas were good.

The restaurant seemed to be going for a rustic country decor, but it just felt a bit dingy. The service was not impressive either. It wasn't rude or unfriendly, but just somewhat inattentive. Although we didn't try any of the regular menu items, the brunch was so disappointing that we will not be going back.

Hmmm, from looking at the other reviews maybe I went at an off time? Friday happy hour.  Everything was pretty much okay.  Drinks were awesome.  Our bartender knew everything imaginable about the olympics (bartenders are good for random bits of information!)  Fries sucked - WAY overcooked. Unedible.  Our burger & veggie burger were okay.  Garlic Ciabatta appetizer special was good.  Free popcorn was good.  Beer selection (Defiant, Erie brewing) was excellent.  Place was kinda empty.

A very "ehhh" visit.  Maybe I should try Pasta Night?

After flying cross country all day and arriving at our hotel in the late evening tired and hungry, I couldn't have asked for a better location than Mahwah Bar & Grill!

They've got a HUGE menu with quite a lot of diversity for a bar & grill.  We were there on a Monday night, and they had a number of Monday Night Football specials.  We definitely made use of their $0.25 buffalo wing offer and they were tasty!

I had the crab cake caesar salad which was OK, but not absolutely fabulous.  The rest of the crew seemed happy with their choices and we all left satisfied.

Decor is no frills and nothing super exciting.  Sports bar like, but in a building that seems more like an old Irish Pub from the outside.  Service was fast and courteous.

Not the best place for a romantic night out, but if you're looking for a fun night out...not too expensive...nothing too fancy..I would totally recommend this place.

    Enjoy!
