Went there for lunch today. Â I wanted to order the calamari, since other diners had raved about it. Â Then I saw the salmon come out, and had to try that. Â It was salmon over yukon gold mashed potatoes with grilled asparagus and a white wine caper sauce. Â OMG amazing! Â Though the salmon filet was thin, it was cooked perfectly (I consider perfect salmon something you have to just touch with a fork and it flakes). Â The sauce and veggies were also good. Â I finished with the butterscotch rum cake. Â OMG again! Â It came with small pieces of kiwi, raspberries and blueberries, as well as different flavored sauces on the side. Â Divine. Â My new favorite lunch place!
Review Source:I could possibly comment on both the restaurant itself and it's bar upstairs. Â But then again I really don't remember that night when we were partying... Â I think I fell down the stairs... The dinner, however, was a bit surprising since I was so used to being there during the late night drinking binges. Â I got a coupon from http://restaurant.com $25 off and headed over with my main squeeze.
We got the three course fixed meals for $35 (so theoretically $70- plus tax, I was assuming something about the price of $50 something dollars) but boy was I wrong. Â Okay, let me talk about their food:
Fried Calamari: Delicious, possibly the best I've ever had.
Mango Crab Cakes: Sweet and good (only if you like mango)
Lamb Steak (heavily seasoned, felt like I was eating a rendition of Thanksgiving all over again)
Mascovey Duck (Juicy and very flavorful)
Creme Brule (yum)
Chocolate slab cake (yum yum)
Okay, I had the duck and my what euphoric experience did I go through. Â The texture was way better than any duck that I've bought at the asian market! Â hah. Â Like I stated previously, the Lamb Steak was a bit over seasoned. Â Wasn't really much to write home about. Â When they served us our main course, it was obvious that we were in some type up up scale possibly the highest end restaurant of Suisun City. Â
The service was a bit slow. Â I noticed that there was only one waitress on the floor and although there wasn't a lot of customers, when people came in to be seated they were standing at the front door for an awkward amount of time.
So we get the bill see, and wow did my eyes pop out. Â Okay, I have no problemo in spending the bling bling... but holy cow! Â 18% gratuity? Â Uh.. I thought the menu said gratuity added for parties over 6?? Â Whateves... The bill came out around $75 (what the cost of what the dinner woulda been w/o the greedy gratuity).
I liked the food... but to spend so much on that meal... it wasn't worth it. Â I'll save my $75 and head out to the city for a fancy dinner.
Can I give 2.5 stars? Came here with my husband, sat downstairs and only one other couple eating who left halfway through our dinner. Drinks were brought fast and the calamari is very good. We were a bit annoyed that, while we know she was trying to be attentive and had A LOT of time on her hands since it was so slow, the waitress kinda came over a lot and at one point tried to make small talk and we were having a pretty important conversation, so that was a bit annoying. The thing, though, that killed us is that we shared an entree, had 3 beers between the 2 of us, 2 side salads and got a $4 dessert and our bill was $97. I mean, $11/each for side salads that I could have gotten for $2-4 anywhere else? It just was really ridiculous and yes, we checked to make sure things were right but the steak wasn't to die for, not like we've had it at other expensive places. If we had known we'd be spending $22 on salad, $27 on a slightly overcooked steak with shrimp that had a weird, funny earwax taste to it that we didn't eat... it just wasn't worth it.
Review Source:I absolutely LOVE this place. My brother is a police officer in Suisun and one evening, Â he brought me here and I've been addicted ever since. The prices are reasonable and the food quality and taste is beyond anything else around the area. The owners are friendly and they appreciate their regulars. This place gets empty at night because Suisun is mainly a daytime kind of town. They're very busy around lunch time. This place is fancy enough to bring a date to or casual enough to go upstairs and eat at the bar.
Review Source:The restaurant- Great food! The calamari is by far the best I have ever had! =) the night We went in, it was a little slower, so the server was able to attend to our needs. She was very friendly and fun to talk to.
The food we ordered (lamb and filet mignon) were cooked perfectly. This is a fine dining restaurant and the food definitely shows that. You get good quality!
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who's looking for a more upscale place with upscale food to match! =)
Don't waste your time, go to cast iron around the corner!
We've eaten here many times and last time was definitely the LAST for us.
It's always empty at dinner time.
We do love their Kobe burger, so that's the only reason there is 2 stars. Â They have no happy hour in the dining room, only upstairs. So when I asked if we could go get a drink and come down for dinner, she said no. Â What.???? Â So quench we ordered the drinks and saw the waitress walk upstairs to the same exact bar that we couldn't bring our drinks down from, that was ridiculous.
The filet was very flavorful good, but fool me not, that was not filet. That was some leftover cut of roast they seared and made pretty on a bed of veggies.....it was not tender like a filet, and was very almost "stringy"..... Like pot roast.
They offer a deal on http://restaurant.com, so if you are in the mood to dine by yourselves (ha, since you may only have one other diner in the whole restaurant) then get the voucher, but you must print it out, they don't honor it on your mobile app.
Not a bad place to go hand and drink. Though on Friday and Saturday nights it gets pretty ghetto. I mean I was pat down pretty hard that it can be considered sex! The bartenders weren't bad looking at all, and the owners are always flirting with the patrons. The back area is large enough to go hang out to escape the loud music. Prices weren't too bad
Review Source:My favorite spot for dinner in Suisun City, near the waterfront. Â The food is cooked perfectly, wonderful presentation, and a caring staff that will make it right if anything is amiss. Â Desserts are fabulous. Decent wine list. Â Nice to have big city quality in little Suisun City. Â Our number one choice for a special dinner out.
Review Source:Nice locally owned hideaway I took my neice to dinner and we had a great experience from the time we walked in the door until we left. I ordered one of the specials. Filet medallions but the lady waiting on us did not speak good English so she brought me the regular filet from the everyday menu. What a great error. It was one of the best filets I have ever had! Presentation was beautiful as well. When she asked about desert we told her we were going back to the house for homemade lemon meringue pie, so she brought us a lemon tart?? When we told her the mistake, she said eat anyway no charge. Nice place to take a date
Review Source:Was visiting friends here in Suisun and origanly from San Jose, as always the night life out here always seems to be slim pickings. With normaly checking out local whole in the wall bars to dive bars and the random biker bar we decieded to check out this place. There was a cover of $5 to get in witch all in all when your left with little choices what do have left to loose. The bar and dance floor is located in the upstairs of the restruant after hours. The bar was nice and clean the staff friendly and plenty of stools to have a seat and enjoy your drinks.(Drinks are well priced) Â The dance floor is small but, worked for the number of people getting their groove on. The DJ mixed up from old to now. All in all it was a good time. I hope this helps some....
Review Source:Agree with Amanda Q's review...indeed a gem in downtown Suisun! Â I had never been before, though live just over the hill in Vallejo. Â I will definitely be back to Main Street Bar and Grill, and will try others.
I enjoyed a perfectly grilled salmon entree with a delicious lemon saffron sauce. Â The crabcake appetizer was also unexpectedly delicious with a mango salsa. Â What was most impressive was the presentation of the dishes. Â They were works of art, and I wish I had taken photos to post. Â My husband's filet mignon was 2 inches thick, cooked perfectly to order. Â
I think the best part of the meal was certainly the service. Â If you are lucky enough to have Anthony as your waiter, you will be in good hands. Â He was so attentive, very pleasant to talk to and knew exactly when to clear the table, not rushing us.
I felt the price was very appropriate for what we enjoyed. Â The atmosphere wasn't overly trying to be romantic, but it definitely had an adult vibe (hint: don't drag your whiny children here....it's small and you'll spoil it for everyone.) Â Nice jazz playing in the background, nicely decorated, cloth table linens. Â
We WILL be back. Â Thanks Anthony for our pre-Valentine's Day dinner!
Note: the photos here are quite a bit brighter than the restaurant. Â It definitely feels more warm and cozy that these photos appear, atleast in the evening.
Kitchen closes around 8:15, so no late seating after 8:00p. Â Closed Sundays.
What a fancy little gem hidden in downtown Suisun!
A friend gave me a http://restuarant.com gift certificate here for my birthday. So for a girls night I grabbed my best friend and we headed downtown.
Our first impression: Oh snap, our jeans and t-shirts are out of place!
LOL
This is definitely a swanky little place. We weren't expecting it to be so nice. The waitresses were very kind, attentive and helpful. She answered all my questions as I looked over the menu with a confuzzled look on my brow. "What does safron taste like?" I asked. "I can give you a sample of the sauce," she said. Perfect answer madame!
I ordered the salmon with lemon-safron sauce, mashed potatoes and green beens. My friend ordered the NY strip steak.
First impression: why the heck is her steak over 2x the size of my salmon?!?!?! So not fair!
Tase impression: well, as my friend Emerald would say, "BAM!" It was scrumptious! The salmon was amazing. But I was done in half the time of my friend and her enormous steak. :( She let me try her steak and it was juicy, tender and fabulous.
After dinner we ordered dessert. She got the chocolate fondant cake and I got a layered chocolate cake. The appearance was five star quality. So beautiful! My cake was actually like a mousse and it was amazing. My mouth is watering thinking about it.
I tasted my friends cake and immediately grabbed my water to wash down the disgusting taste that was insulting my palet and permeating my mouth. I told her, "Stop eating that CRAP!" Really, all drama aside, it was horrible. It tasted burned. Like charred. And somewhat like propane.
The waitress took it away and talked to the chef. Turned out my taste buds were spot on. The chef hits the cake with a blow torch before serving to make it glossy. Well. They should frickin stop doing that. It completely ruined the amazing meal we had just had. Imagine when gas stations didn't have the fume controls on the pump. Oh yeah, you remember that smell. Now imagine eating it with chocolate. Barf.
Now mind you, this review is still 4 stars. The food was absolutely amazing EXCEPT for that fondant cake.
But I was a little upset by the bill. Despite the nasty cake that we asked them to take away...they still charged us for it!!!! $7 for a slice of cake that was inedible. Now that makes me mad!!!
For the salmon dinner, the steak dinner, two slices of cake (+tax+tip) it was $70.00
The bill almost gave me a heart attack. We didn't even have wine, or even sodas, or appetizers. Just entrees and dessert and water. WOW. Expensive! However, for the high quality of food, ambiance and service, I say it was still a great dinner. This is definitely a swanky, special occasion place. I absolutely loved my dinner and would be glad to return. I just need to save money first, cuz I be broke now. ;)
If you tire of Cast Iron Grill, give this place a try.
Went in on a whim when CIG was packed. Â SO glad we did.
The place is small and has a warm/cozy but not clubby vibe. Â The building is repurposed so the restaurant has exposed bricks and is interesting. Â The bar upstairs can get somewhat raucous but the restaurant is an otherwise quiet place for a romantic dinner.
The menu is upscale bistro fare (fish, chicken, beef) with more modern takes on sides (polenta, grilled veggies, flavored potatoes). Â The wine list is modest and reasonably priced. Â We have had the prix fixe menu and eaten off of the a la carte menu. Â Cesar salads have been very good. Croutons taste home made. Â Both times fillets have been fork-tender and juicy. Â Sauces complement without overpowering food. Â Wine has not been oxidized (opened bottle serving many glasses...eventually). Â The stuffed chicken (mango, spinach, cheese) was perfectly cooked, not rubbery, and not dry. Â grilled asparagus was very tasty. Â Bread is always warm and free flowing. The only meh item I have had was the lemon tart: no lemon flavor, soggy crust.
We definitely would go back; in fact, we have.
We did not go to the bar upstairs. We had a nice intimate dinner. Excellent service and lovely presentation. I had the pork loin - so tender. Â Loved the sauce which complemented the pork and mashed potatoes. Vegetables were hot yet crisp. Although we went on a Thursday night, I think the restaurant is hasn't been 'discovered' yet, maybe because of the $$, but I thought it was worth it.
Review Source:Friday night and there was 1 customer here... but hey we still wanted to try it out. So we asked to see the menu before being seated but the aroma of strong chemicals made me gag. I really wanted to try this place out but what ever they used to clean was so strong that I had to walk out.
I still want to try this place so I'll come back and hopefully it doesn't smell like chemicals.
What a treat! Their four course prix fixe menu is a real value - appetizer, salad or soup, entree and dessert for $35! Everything we had was delicious - fried calamari, grilled asparagus, caesar salad, seafood risotto and pork oso bucco. Then the desserts...creme brûlée that was delectable and lemon tart that was refreshing yet decadent. The server was great - attentive, but not hovering. The timing of each course was perfect. We are looking forward to our next visit.
Review Source:So while I was visiting my hometown with out of town guests we were a little too lazy to go out to San Francisco or Sac, so we decided to check out the Marina area ...after dark. I recommend sticking to the Main St area near Castiron Bar and Grill....and not to really wander...
We were lucky we got in "2 for 1" - typically they have a $5 cover charge. (Hahaha, yes they have a cover, kind of ridiculous for Suisun but they are a small business) and we marched up to the top dive bar area.
The DJ on the night of 9/3/2011 was awesome! He played a lot of Bay music, dance, pop, top 40's, 90's hits but his mixes were done really well, his beat was spot on!! Â Dance floor is tiny and has a random stripper pole in the middle of it, but it wasn't too full that night (however I've heard they can be full to the max) so we had room to enjoy ourselves by dancing the night away to a great DJ.
The owner was a very sweet man, he was very concerned for our group and wanted to make sure we had a DD. Living in So.Cal makes me miss the small town charm.
So its not a hot and trendy club or a modern pub, but I had fun because of my large group. The crowd isn't like SF or Sac, Â I was majorly on ALERT so I'd stay on Main St and not wander around or anything beyond there.
Support a local business and check this place out at least once for a chill yet fun time.
It was a hot and sticky summer, so we visited this watering hole for some happy hour brews and eats. The kobe sliders were alright, but I do remember the calamari. Oh the fried calamari, i've never had anything like it---I thought I bit into a fried mozzarella stick but I was reassured that it was calamari. Couldn't stay for the karaoke sesh later that night, but this place is worth another visit for some more barside calamari fingers ;)
Review Source:This restaurant seems to be struggling to find its identity. Downstairs is a small, "fancy" dining rooom, and upstairs is a "dive bar". It feels weird and not so fancy sitting in the dining room yet watching people march upstairs to the dive bar. They have a great prix fixe menu for $30 - four courses. I tried the restaurant because I saw it on http://restaurant.com - but unfortunately, you can't order the prix fixe with this, and the regular menu is WAY overpriced.
Food - filet was pretty good, calamari good, soup good. rest of the food was average.
Our bill for 3 adults, 2 small children came out to $150. - even after $50 off, I thought this was too high.
Not very child friendy, so I probably won't be back.
The ambience at Cast Iron down the street is better, food is probably about the same. I think this restaurant will struggle unless it finds a niche or is more family friendly.
The wife and I went here for Valentines day. We had to switch reservation times but that went very smoothly. Upon getting there, we noticed it was very small and kinda intimate. We also noticed we were the youngest people eating there!
Our waitress was very attentive, but didn't know what an amaretto sour was. But thats ok as she just asked the bartender upstairs. No harm done.
I ordered the filet mignon off the special prix-fixe menu. The starter salad wasn't anything special. Just spring mix you would find at safeway or raleys. The croutons were good though. Warm, yet crunchy. The filet was excellent. Cooked perfectly. The potatoes gratin and beans were a nice accompaniment. But the real winner was the port taragon sauce. OMG i almost licked the plate! The head chef was too busy to tell us what was in it, but said to call him back, which I will.
The wife got the kobe burger. Of course it wasn't real kobe, but wagyu beef. Didn't matter. that was heck of a good burger. I was expecting something a lil bit fancier than steak fries to come with it, but eh.
I recommend this place to couples on a date. Its kinda pricey, but worth it from what we had.
Ate here during restaurant week for dinner. Service was mediocre. I think the waiter was nervous that I was eating alone. I rated my experience at this restaurant as a 4 because the chef really knows how to prepare filet mignon! My filet mignon was so tender, juicy, and flavorful ... Incredible!
Review Source:I wanted to try something different in Fairfield-Suisun. Â I haven't really had a fine dining experience in this area. Â There were only a few diners in the restaurant when I went. Â It was quiet, relaxing, and a place where you could have good conversation while sipping your wine and eating dinner. Â I ordered the filet mignon with potatoes gratin and zucchini and I must say my dish was superb! The port wine tarragon sauce was delicious. Â I didn't expect the dishes to come out the way they did. Â The presentation was great. Â It was a perfect medium-rare just as I ordered. Â My boyfriend ordered the rib eye steak and he was very pleased with his dish. Â Also, they brought us out complimentary soup so that's an added bonus!
Service was pretty good. Â There was only one waiter but it wasn't busy. Â He was always near by and accessible when we needed something. Â I wonder if it ever gets really busy though. Â Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience locally.
I'm just reviewing the bar...which was expensive and crowded.
*The music was so loud we had to scream at eachother.
*There was zero air circulation upstairs.
*A cover charge in Suisun???
The third star is just because I liked the layout. I'm sure the resturant is nice but it shouldn't try to be a club when the lights go down.
I am a huge fan of this restaurant and their upstairs bar. Â Their happy hour bar menu is an extreme value for the quality of food you get. Â As long as the chef doesn't change the menu, please try the mussels. Â They are the most tender I've had ANYWHERE. Â Being a former flight attendant and having tried food all over the world, that's saying something. Â Ive had dinner and drinks there and I have never been disappointed. Â I'm proud to have this restaurant within walking distance. Â I'll keep going and going. Â You should too.
Review Source:I came here with my family for dinner a few nights ago to enjoy a nice meal near our hotel in Fairfield. The food was good, nice presentation and they had lots of options, but the service was ridiculous. Our server interacted with us as though we were at some lame bar and he had something better to do. I have a gluten allergy and when I asked him to check on a few items for their ingredients I am sure he did not. He used phrases like "I think that one is okay" and "I would stay away from the chicken because, like, it might have something you cant have". He also told me there was MSG in the lamb dish and one of the steaks. Either he was an idiot or this restaurant is really cutting some flavor corners. Â
I ended up going with the Filet Mignon (no sauce due to the allergy) and my boyfriend with the New York Strip. Both steaks were cooked perfectly and the sides (potato gratin, and zucchini for me, fries and broccoli for him) were excellent. We also had dessert, Creme Brule which was just mediocre. It could use some real vanilla bean and maybe a run through the sieve before cooling. Also the sugar was burnt a bit on top which kinda ruins the flavor.
It's unfortunate that we had such a bad waiter. I think had he been good I might have really enjoyed the overall experience much better. But all service aside if you want a great steak and potatoes, it really was delicious.
I came here for lunch today with my boss. He had enjoyed a previous visit, and thought I would too. We parked a few cars up from the entrance and had a short 20 foot walk.
The entryway is very bright and colorful and leads to the 2nd floor bar. We walked into the main floor dining area and were promptly greeted by our server (the only server). We were seated near the front, which would normally have been wonderful, but due to the excessive yammering of the jackhammers outside (new construction across the street) it hindered any conversation. Since we had a choice of all but one other table, we were promptly relocated upon our request.
Mr. C enjoyed his pasta dish with chicken and a cup of roasted vegetable soup and glass of iced tea.
I ordered the turkey on sourdough with a cup of roasted vegetable soup and a glass of sky juice. My sandwich was well prepared, but I removed 1 star for a $12 sandwich with "processed" turkey meat. The turkey was grilled, served on sourdough with pickled red peppers and avocado's. It was very good, and very large. I took 1/2 of it back to the office with me. The soup was well seasoned and had a large ratio of vegetables to broth. The vegetables weren't overcooked and were in nice large pieces.
Sorry, they don't take Amercan Express.
I hope this restaurant has more business in the future. Perhaps taking a couple dollars off of the price of the menu to pick up more lunchtime business. Just a thought.
Thanks Mr. C, lunch was great and I appreciated it.
I had my birthday dinner at the Main Street Bar and Grill. It was fabulous! The food was great and the service was excellent! It has such a relaxing feel to it. It is decorated nicely. We got a tour of the building after the meal and there is a really nice bar upstairs with a gorgeous little nook in one corner where sipping wine with friends can be done. There is a room for business dinners or parties upstairs as well. The food is fair priced for the ambiance. I look forward to dining there again. This is my favorite restaurant for special occasions!
Review Source:A good restaurant for those of you requiring fancier fare before attending shows at The Harbor Theatre. Â A well-priced selection of wines, tasty food and delicious coffee; magnificent, courteous service; comfortable atmosphere, nice interior design -- it's about time that Suisun City have a really nice restaurant on Main Street!
There is a bar upstairs that I have yet to visit, but I could hear Sinatra and possibly Ella Fitzgerald drifting down; this bodes well. Â I hope they make a good Manhattan!
Friday night, wanting something different and tired of the chain restaurants, we decided to try out a restaurant that we had seen on Main Street near the marina. Â It was a great choice, especially since we wanted good food and a relaxing atmosphere.
Upon the recommendation of the waiter, my husband ordered the ribeye steak and I the salmon. Â While waiting for the food to arrive we enjoyed the relaxing music, an appetizer of clam chowder soup, and some wine (they have a fairly ample choice of wines...especially for the Fairfield/Suisun City area. Â They also have wines from some of the local wineries.)
When our entrees arrived, we were very pleased with the presentation. Â We were even more pleased as we began to eat our food. Â My husband indicated that this was probably the most tender steak that he had ever had in his life!
Feeling somewhat satiated and relaxed, we perused the dessert menu. Â We decided to share a lemon meringue tart. Â It was a very wise decision. Â They paired the tart with a sauce and different types of berries. Â It almost felt as if we were eating a different dessert every time we took a bite because of the different berries and kiwi fruit.
If their other food is as good as the food we ordered, I hope that the restaurant makes it. Â I know that it is a little more expensive that the typical Fairfield/Suisun City fare ($20-$25 entree, $8 appetizers, $8 desserts) thus they may have an uphill climb. Â Hopefully, people will recognize that it is offering something different from the usual chain restaurants. Â I will be back and will tell others about our enjoyable experience.
