We ordered the friend artichoke and salmon, both the split. Â The bread is AMAZING. Â The fried artichoke was pretty decent. Â It's just jarred artichokes, not fresh, fried with a creamy sauce. Â The salmon itself was pretty good, but the potatoes and asparagus were severely underdone. Â The dish was definitely not worth $19. Â Overall, I would say that it was a bit overpriced. Â However, bread was delicious and the service was good.
Review Source:Went here this week for a lunch meeting. Everyone at the table had some kind of salad....I had the chopped salad (without the onions) and it was delicious. I also started with the tomato bisque - that was very good (but needed some salt).
The bread that they bring to the table is absolutely delicious...with a side of olive oil and balsamic vinegar....I'm a bread junkie and could make a meal of just that.
Can't say anything about the dinner selections, but I highly recommend Mangia's for a lovely lunch.
I hated the Mangia in Stuyvesant Plaza. Was there once for WAY TO GREASY pasta and noticed the carpet and booths were filthy which skeeved me out. Â I was pretty much scared to go to the one in Slingerlands, expecting the same. BUT, was pleasantly surprised.
Wait staff is friendly, decent wine bottle specials (price wise-can't remember the selection-maybe I had too many glasses of it? :)) and the Panzanella salad is to die for. It 's not on the menu anymore but if you ask for it they can make it. Â And boy is it worth asking for! Â We went again for a birthday dinner with family and everyone loved it. A little on the pricey side-things could stand to lose about $1-3 per entree but I haven't yet met a dish I didn't like.
I don't know why I keep coming here. The little one and I have been coming to Mangia for years and loved the Stuyvesant Plaza locale, this one however is not a favorite of ours.
Hmm, it must be the bread.. yeah, that's it. The bread is awesome. It's this pretzel type bread they serve with olive oil and balsamic.. it's really yummy. My daughter loves it as well, so I like to bring her here so she can enjoy it. If anyone knows of anywhere else that has a similar bread let me know, I could use one last reason to say goodbye to this place
The pasta dishes are very good, but it's pasta and plenty of places do good pasta. There are a couple things here that I like better then other spots but I'm *thisclose* to saying I'll do without them. Even if I do get a craving for Mangia on occasion.
Last time I was there, it was my daughter and I. The place was fairly empty and we waited at the counter to be sat... and then waited some more for someone to come seat us. A guy walks over doesn't say "hello" "welcome" or anything, just  "can I help you?". Obviously we'd like some food.. duh. So I say "yes we'd like... dinner?" and he kinda said "oh well, I didn't know I thought it might be takeout". Then why didn't he ask? Ready, let's practice.. I'll be the host "Hi, welcome to Mangia will you be dining in or taking out". Much better then an off"can I help you?".. like we were lost and had wandered into Mangia.
Another time I came here my daughter ordered "pasta with butter". She gets the dish and it's pasta with sauce, so I said something and the waitress goes "oh, that's the snow white, that's not what she ordered". Alrighty, I know on the menu it's called the "Snow White" but how do you screw up "pasta with butter". No need to make my daughter feel bad about not ordering it by it's silly name. There was more to dislike about that trip to Mangia, but whatever.
Most recent visit the waitress was ok. Except for the fact she never asked how our dinner was and didn't give us an opener or time to order starters. She also didn't offer dessert. Oh well. My drink was empty when she put my meal down, she finally asked if I'd like something else when I asked to have the rest of my dinner wrapped. I just asked for half a glass of water, just something to take the parch off, but not enough to keep me there any longer. Seeing her and the staff spent more time closing up shop then they did tending to us, I guessed we'd be doing them a favor leaving. My drink did sit there long enough to melt into a bit of drinkable liquid mid-meal tho, thankfully. Â
I had the Pollo Tortellini and My daughter had the Pollo Marsala, had the waitress asked how it was I'd have told her very good :) The dishes are ample and very rich BTW, I've never left without heavy leftovers!
Everything came to just under $40.00 W/O tip. EDIT: by W/O I meant before, regardless of service I always tip. I've been a waitress and know it can be a hit or miss shift with wages and that people need them to live.
