Margaritas. I didn't have one of those. Namesake fail. But once we've gotten past my epic foible, then we can move on to...
...TAMALES.
Listen up, my dear Wichitans, and visitors heretofore, tamales are some sort of sacred find in any town north of Brownsville, Texas. If these cornmeal logs stuffed with meat and seasonings and topped with lardy beans, cheese and chunks of tomato are delicious, then the find is equivalent to the Fountain of Youth.
That Margaritas needs serious interior decorating, and that those vinyl seats are not exactly comfortable won't bother you as soon as you stuff loads of cooked maze and sauteed, succulent, moist seasoned beef in your mouth.
And a little bit of a hint: just order the "side order." One is enough...unless of course, you're a glutton for digestive punishment and enjoy having a food baby every once in a while.
Spent NYE here with friends. Â Although we did not eat the food, we drank the drinks. Â Our waiter was great even with the craziness of the evening. Â Drinks were cheap! Â The band Lotus, which apparenty plays every weekend, was amazing! Â Wichita people, if you don't know about this place, RUN - go check it out! Â We danced the night away
Review Source:This place was recommended by some work colleagues, so we ventured there on a hot 100 degree day. From the outside, the place looked attractive and attention grabbing from the road. It has a very large parking lot, so you won't have a problem finding a space.
Upon entering the establishment, the place was a bit dim and our hostess was there to find us immediately to seat us. The seats are large and are made for fat american ass. Very comfortable. We were seated close to the booth/window area on the North side. There was a stage also, but no live band during lunch. There is also a top floor as well.
Our waiter was a very enthusiast person who greeted us with a smile. Got our waters and made a joke about how if we wanted our waters on the rocks. Came back minutes later with our drinks and immediately asked if we were ready. The menu is only 2 pages with enough information about what to expect. We looked at the lunch specials, and I had the Especial Margaritas Burrito, which was moderately 6.59.
After our orders were taken, the waiter brought us our chips and salsa. Now with the salsa, there are several options for how hot you wanted. We got the mild and hot salsa. The chips were fresh, thin, crunchy, and PLENTIFUL. The salsa.. well I wasn't the least impressed with it. You couldn't really taste the fresh tomatoes like some places have. Maybe I prefer the cilantro taste to it that it lacked.
Our food came about 15 minutes later. Very quick and fresh. The amount of food was probably more than I needed at the time, but I finished it. The rice was very flavorful with all kinds of spices in it. The re-fried beans were gooey with the hot melted cheese on top. The burrito itself was topped with lettuce, tomato, and cheese. I had the beef one which was well minced and moist.
The food wasn't amazing or the best I've had, but for the price and speedy service it's worth a trip to try out.
I enjoyed dinner at Margaritas Cantina.
Really, it was the enchiladas that stole the show. Â Gotta be one of the best enchiladas I've ever had.
And even though the rest of the meal was kind of disappointing, I bumped the rating up to 4 stars just because of these enchiladas. Â I mean, the cheese was awesome and the sauce was awesome.
For the rest, the tostada tasted alright, but I couldn't even pick it up, the shell was so soggy by the time it was served. Â The margarita was also a bit disappointing... kind of weak, especially when I paid extra for top shelf.
The chips were great... light, thin, crispy and warm. Â The salsa was also really good. Â Service was good too. Â I wish we had been there later in the evening... would've loved to have seen the live music or whatever they do here later on. Â Definitely, next time I'm in Wichita.
I love this place! Their salsa is the best in town- not too much cilantro like other places. Service is always friendly and prompt. Everything I've eaten there has been delicious... Especially the 'Margarita dip', Pork carne asada tostada, Mexican chili (beans, pork and cheese dip w/tortillas). Their fried ice cream is awesome!!! The kitchen really rocks out the food too, we usually have our meal in less than 10 min after ordering!!! Also, weekend nights they remove some tables & clear the dance floor for their house band Locus-- FUN!
