This was the first time here. My meal was the stuffed shrimp with crab stuffing with skin-in mashed potato, garden salad with balsamic vinigarette on-the-side, and steamed mixed vegetables and coffee. This wad one of their specials on the menu. What was surprisingly pleasing wad that the beverage (I had coffee and my Mother had hot tea) was INCLUDED! However, I did not ask if I had gotten something else, like soda, if that beverage would be included also, like my coffee. There was live entertainment there as well...sometimes an acoustic guitarist, Â like tonight, sometimes a DJ... The decor was visually pleasing to the eye and as the name states, a nice life-like pose of Marilyn Monroe with her skirt waving up stands in the corner. The ambiance was fine for me, but for some can become a little overwhelming once the place starts to fill up and people try to talk over the live entertainment. However, I would not at all let the noise factor in on whether or not I would return for another meal. I would definitely be back...
Cheers!
The Good.
Clean. Interior is well maintained and staff is friendly.
The Bad:
   food was terrible.
Mussels: Way to much oil used in cooking and some were not           open/undercooked.
Fried Mozzarella: Was not hot enough and the marinara was bland. Â
    Â
Greens Salad: Fresh greens and a nice spring mix GOOD.
 Â
Shrimp Scampi: Almost inedible. served in almost a soup of garlic, oil and lemon. Way to much Lemon and insane amount of oil. Gave up eating this after a few bites. Bread served with this dish was cold.
     Â
Chicken Milanese Sandwich: Flavorless. Roasted peppers were bland, cold, and canned.
Won't eat here again.
Firstly, restaurants in Bristol are few and far between- good restaurants in Bristol are like finding the illuminati.
That said, I'll go easy on any Bristol restaurant.
Ok now for the review.
Decor- as you walk in the front door you'll see a clean new bar with pleasantly spaced high top tables in the seating area. Â If you keep walking you'll meet the ramp that brings you down to the family seating area which is a large open foyer with ample seating. Miscellaneous Marilyn Monroe and Elvis memorabilia decorate the walls. What caught me as weird is the semi Greek decor that plagues many restaurants in the area. WHY?? anyways ill give this area a 4 star
Service- The service was poor. Our waitress clearly didn't have any experience as a waitress and needed an immediate training course. Manners and a bit of class would have been nice.
After waiting about 10 minutes she came over with her first words being "are you all set to order?" HAHAHAHA. How about "good evening, my name is trixie, I'll be your waitress tonight, can I start you with a beverage tonight? We're offering our signature cocktail the Marilyn abc tonight" "our dinner specials are X,Y,Z"
Slow service, didn't know the draft list (which was about 6 beers) ugh. Like I said 1 star.
Food- I ordered the capellini Bolognese which had great flavor. Wasn't over spiced or under spiced- just right. The temperature was perfect and the ricotta dollop on top was a nice touch. The pasta was overcooked and clearly cheap store brand and the ricotta was granular and not fresh leaving a slightly acidic taste in your mouth. The food I received was something I might expect if I came home late from work and whipped something up quickly.
3 stars for the food
Drinks- The draft beer was great. Fresh clean taps and spot on beer. A few local beers in house would be nice. Take a lesson from barely vine on this one. You've got Relic in Plainville, two roads in Stratford, hooker in Bloomfield, Calvary in Oxford, NEB in Wallingford etc etc. My point is support your local breweries. Patrons appreciate that. The Malbec that was ordered at the table was terrible. My god. Do not serve acidic skunked red wine at an Italian restaurant!!!!!
5 stars for the quality of the beer served
2 for the tap list diversity
1 star for the wine quality
I may go back for a beer at the bar but ill stay clear of the food. If you're looking to take a date out for dinner head over to barley vine. You'll spend 2x but you'll leave smiling.
The food is phenomenal and the prices a great! Beautiful job renovating the place, right down to the parking lot(which used to be tiny) Cannot beat the prices on filet mignon or strip steak. Alcoholic beverage prices are below average for the area. I'm already a repeat customer, as are my sister, her husband & my best friend, plus all of the recommendations we have given to everyone who will listen. Bristol FINALLY has a place I enjoy being at!
