Martell's Tiki Bar

One of my favorite places to eat at the Shore. Even though the waiters are 20 year-old recent high school graduates, they're friendly and helpful. The fries were OK, nothing special. I will return next time I hit the boardwalk. BTW, I hope the pier is rebuilt.

Metell's Tiki Bar gets a solid three stars from me. Starting w/ food. Being I was there for an all day affair. I was able to sample the menu for the outdoor patio. The buffalo chicken wrap, chicken fingers, and quesadilla were all good. The French Fries could've been a little crispier for my taste. The drink prices are a little high but is a beach bar. At night provides for live bands and dj's. The price to get on the beach I believe has gone up from previous years but I may be wrong as I don't do the tiki scene as much as others. Would I come back yes but do I look at making this an everyweekend affair no few hits during the summer and I'm happy.

I don't even want to give this place one star. I barely go down the shore, and yesterday was the first and last time for me and Tiki bar. Drove about 2 hours with two of my girlfriends to spend the day at the beach and have a few drinks. The minute I walked in a got a bad vibe. We sat at the bar to order drinks and more than one bartender looked at us and just passed us by. It was a wednesday around 2pm, the bar was not busy at all. We waited about 5 minutes before someone actually came to us. Drinks were blah. Then we proceeded to go onto their beach. It was $8. I gave the guy my ID and payed him. My friend hands him her ID and he says that he cannot let her in because her ID is a duplicate (even though it has a barcode, is legit and she uses it everywhere). They called the bouncer over. They did not want to let her in, even though my friends and I are over the legal drinking age. Then I told him I would need a refund if they weren't going to let her onto the beach. We had to follow the girl inside to get a refund while we were holding all our stuff and our drinks. We were standing around trying to finish our drinks so we could leave as fast as possible when the same bouncer comes up to us. He asks us which bartender served us and takes away my friend's drink because she didn't have a proper ID and "it's their policy" (btw I could not find this policy anywhere on the website). We were shocked. He then said he would refund us for the drink, LOL. I told him there was no way I was going up to that bar to get a refund, and that he needed to bring me my money because at this point, I was completely embarrassed that we had to follow them around like a bunch of idiots. I cannot believe how far these people went to prevent us from going on to their beach. I am sure if we were a bunch of 16 year old slutty "guido" girls we would have gotten in no problem. Policy my ass. If that is your policy, it should be stated on the website, or facebook page so people will know to bring 10 forms of ID with them before they drive 2 hours to visit your bar. We went to Jenkinson's for drinks and lunch and did not even get asked for ID. If they wanted to let us in, they could have. Her ID is 100% REAL and LEGAL and she is 24 years old. I hope they felt better about themselves and their big important jobs. Will never go back there again, wasn't even all that to begin with.
