For years I've said I was going to stop in and check the place out and now that I have I am kicking myself for not having done so sooner, I was very impressed! Â As other comments have stated it is more of a community center with a built in restaurant. Â
All activities are for those 55 and older but the restaurant is for everyone. The food was good and people were very friendly. Â I will absolutely go back.
Beyond food.
Mather cafe is a community center/Cafe. Â On a recent lunch visit I unexpectedly walked in on a line dancing class, Â and a computer class, Â all inside the cafe.
I was on my lunch break,  only have 30 minutes  so I couldn't ask many questions about what the mission statement was.  It was obvious to me that this cafe goes far beyond its name.  A schedule of events just for Wednesday included,  computer class for beginners,  line dancing class,  open workout room,  self defense class, yoga,  and about 5 other things that are slipping my memory.  Very friendly and helpful staff.
The Cafe is a walk up  counter with an order board and a specials board,  many sandwich and plate lunch specials, my friend got the Waffle and fried chicken tenders,  and I had a tuna melt,  the melt was done very well,  with a huge portion of Tuna.  The waffle was good as well. Â
Breakfast is served all day and they open at 8:30, Â too bad because that is a little late for me.
As the Colonel said this is mainly for older adults. Â It is an interesting concept, and I believe there to be others, Â it really fills a gap in the market. Â I don't know what else the neighborhood offers as far as food, Â but when I am here this will be my place.
