Ice cold Yeungling drafts a definite plus, as is the pub atmosphere + furnishings. I lucked out a got a perfectly cooked and seasoned New York Strip. It melted in my mouth. My husbands prime rib however, was overdone and lacking in flavor. I'd go back and sit at the bar next time and just enjoy the drafts and maybe an appetizer. All in all not a bad experience, considering it's Gettysburg, where it seems good food is hard to find.
Review Source:McClellans is a nice little tavern connected to the Historic Gettysburg Hotel, and (presumably) the casual cousin to Centuries on the Square. The menu and prices may have been the same, but I'm not sure.
I wanted the prime rib, touted as the specialty of the house - unfortunately, I was there on a Sunday and it is only available Friday and Saturdays. No biggie, I felt like some red meat and the pricey woodsman steak piqued my interest: "A hand selected New York Strip Steak, char-grilled to create the aroma of hickory wood; Add the flavors of fresh garlic, herbs and spices."
What I received was a perfectly cooked (med-rare) but bland piece of steak. No hickory wood aroma, no fresh garlic, or herbs, or spices. Just a steak, somewhat on the thin side, with almost no seasoning whatsoever. I feel like I should not have to reach for the salt shaker at a nice restaurant - unfortunately, I had to douse the steak with it and pepper just to enjoy it. My wife was underwhelmed by her chicken chesapeake.
As I said, my steak was perfectly cooked - the atmosphere was beautiful (the bar is very cool) and comfortable, in a rustic English pub and the waitress was friendly and prompt. Plus they had a reasonably decent beer selection. I assume they share a kitchen, but maybe Centuries tries a little harder. For the price, I'd recommend going elsewhere. Unfortunately decent restaurants are surprisingly hard to come by in Gettysburg.
