We had 9 girls ready for great seafood while sitting on the water. Â We had reservations so our table was perfect. Â However, the service was pretty bad. Â There was plenty of forgetting what we'd asked for, empty cups, and not being able to get ahold of our waitress. Â We had to send back a bowl of shrimp and grits, and also an under-cooked steak. Â For this place to be as pricey as it was, some things were unexceptable. Â Luckly, I didn't have to send my food back, but I've definitely had better.
Review Source:The food is terrible! The $19 fried shrimp was rubbery and hard...how can you mess up fried shrimp? The $25 blackened grouper special was very bland and very small. The kids meal hamburger was gray colored and didn't even look like meat. Needless to say, after paying $70 for a dinner out with our family, we were extremely disappointed and will never come back!!
Review Source:"Our favorite place to eat when we come to beach. Tonight we had 4 appetizers to share between the two of us then the rich delicious chocolate-banana cake. Appetizers were the bourbon glazed bacon wrapped scallops, beet, pecan and goat cheese salad, fried calamari, and rare seared Ahi tuna on a bed of shredded thai cabbage, seaweed and rice noodles, and mango with a delicious peanut sauce and sliced pickled ginger on the side...The service was great and I have nothing negative to say!"
Review Source:Was happily surprised with every aspect after the experience at channel marker. We started at the bar and the discussion came up about channel marker and how he really just pays to have their name everywhere and doesn't deliver in the service side. The bartender was informative about the menu and the drinks. The local special was grouper which was to die for. My husband had the tuna which was perfectly cooked and had amazing sides. The clam chowder was traditional but could've had some a little extra to bring it over the top. Â Yelp offers a free dessert with check in and it's good!
Review Source:We had a great all around experience at this restaurant last week. Â The wait to get a table (for ten!) was minimal. Â The service was excellent. Â We never had to wait for a refill of drinks, an appetizer, etc. Â Â Everyone in our party ordered something different, and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. Â We will definitely return again next year. Â Oh, and we loved the ease of online reservations.
Review Source:Skip it... Â First batch of hush puppies were old, waiter said so... Â Guess we shouldn't have eaten them.... Â Needed to strain the meat before mixing into the gnocchi sauce. Â Very oily! Â All three people in our party that had the gnocchi were sick afterwards.... Â The rest of our party's meals were ok... Â The waiter was great and everyone was nice. Â Could have skipped having the owners baby paraded around the entire restaurant!
Review Source:Great atmosphere and local flavor. We loved that there was plenty of outdoor seating and a bean toss game to keep the kids occupied while we waited for our table. We sat out on the deck, and it was a perfect night. Our three kids, under the age of three, enjoyed coloring pages and looked at the boats
The wait staff was friendly and attentive. I had the shrimp and grits which were outstanding. Â My husband had the shrimp and black beans which was good, but he wished he would have chosen differently. We had the calamari appetizer which was also good. The hush puppies you get instead of bread was a nice touch
Would definitely make a return visit!
Outstanding food! After a short wait we were seated inside and promptly offered delicious hush puppies. Â My stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes and glazed carrots were quite different and yummy. Â My husband thoroughly enjoyed fish and chips. Â Never having sampled the Natty Green beer, our waitress offered a taste and I was pleasantly surprised. Our evening was very enjoyable until we decided to order dessert...our waitress would not return! We could not get her attention. We felt very neglected. Â After accruing a bill greater than $50.00 we really expected better attention. When she finally returned, we asked for our bill and opted for ice cream from the grocery store.
Review Source:Food: 3 stars (except the crab cakes, which were a 5)
Service: 3.5 stars (average to above average, but not fantastic)
Location: 4 stars on deck seating, nice view of the bay. Cheap tables outdoors though.
Our waitress brought a bucket of yummy ring-shaped hush puppies even before taking our drink order, which was great because we were quite hungry!
Chose calamari ($9) for appetizer which was described on menu as being sauteed but was fried, lightly -- still good but not what we were expecting. Had a lemon-y flavor in the breading. Thai dipping sauce was mostly just sugary, tartar was nicely spiced.
Mixed grill plate ($22) had a skewer with 3 large scallops and 3 shrimp, could have been a bit more seasoned for my taste, but good. Also grouper which was the day's catch but was just OK, as well as asparagus which some pieces still had the tough and woody ends on them. Didn't realize until later that we had been slighted the rice pilaf that was also supposed to be on the plate.
Crab cake plate ($23) had two large and extremely tasty cakes, a slightly tangy creamy sauce for dipping, asparagus, and a side. I asked for wasabi mashed potatoes instead of the rice pilaf. Potatoes were dry and room temperature and were not improved by reheating and butter later on at home.
Looked like quite a family friendly spot with many families with young kids out on the deck when we arrived at about 6pm. Â
At $65 including tip and tax, we felt this place was a little overpriced. Â I would consider coming back to try other appetizers, have the crab cakes again and maybe some adult beverages though.
3.5 stars overall.
Very good food. Not good service.
My party of nine went on a Wednesday night and only waited 5 minutes to be seated inside, but the good timing ended there. Appetizers came out at different times over the course of 20 minutes, some entrees came out with the later appetizers, and other entrees didn't come out until well after that. Some of the food was cold by the time it was served. Our waiter was impersonal and blamed his coworkers for everything.
That being said, the food - once it was all on our tables at the right temperatures - was very good. Appetizers and entrees were all delicious. No complaints there! A manager offered us two free desserts for our trouble, which was nice.
Very nice environment for a dinner but it stops there. Â
We waited to be seated for 30 minutes and once seated we noticed 1 table was used inside and about half the outside tables. Â We sat down and waited another 15 minutes before anyone took our drink orders which prompted us to order food with the drinks so we didn't have to wait another half hour. Â (note they have a bar menu that is completely different from the table menu so if you do go here get both) Â
They promptly got us our drinks and forgot about us for another 45 minutes until we finally seen our waitress and flagged her down. Â She then filled up our drinks (pop) which were flat because they fill up pitchers of pop and then set them on a table outside. Â Shortly after this we got our two appetizers which were incorrect. Â It was at this point we asked for a manager so we could pay for our drinks and leave.... Â We waited for a few minutes and magically our food had arrived. Â In our party of 6 adults 3 of us got our orders and were able to eat and of the remaining 3 orders were burnt to a crisp. Â
We refused the 3 dinners which resulted in another 20 minute wait for a person in charge who never showed but instead sent the door person over who stated the owner/manger was in a very bad mood. Â They did take off 3 dinners and offered to make them to go but we refused this offer and paid our bill and left.... Â
If you want to ruin an evening go here or if you hate your in-laws this is the place to go.....
McCurdy's is exactly what I was looking for in a seafood restaurant at the beach. I wanted locally caught fish prepared any way other than battered and fried (like most of the restaurants in the area). I got more than I had hoped for.
I had the special which was locally caught wahoo encrusted in almond (or cashew maybe, I forget) under a shrimp cream sauce. Normally I don't go for such a heavy sauce, but man was it good! I chose the garlic mashed potato side which was great. It also came with steamed zucchini and squash which was a nice light contrast to the heavier items.
The beer selection was quite impressive, including gems from Stone, Duckrabbit, Dogfish Head, and Duvel just to name a few. I think they have over 50 beers on the menu.
Although the food leans toward the high end, the atmosphere is casual. Perfect combination for me and I'll definitely be back.
I went expecting great food for the prices they were asking. Cheap plastic tables outside. I got a philly cheesestake sandwhich and asked for no onions and it was full of them. The bread was so soggy from all the grease. They give you these cheap looking onion rings that are hush puppies with butter to dip them with The french fries are covered in pepper and salt. Â My husband got a hamburger and he said it was bland and had no flavor. I would never suggest that restaurant to my friends.
Review Source:We ate at McCurdy's on Friday night of Memorial Day weekend. Â I thought there would be a wait for a table, but we got there a bit after the dinner rush so we were sat right down on the deck. Â
First thing, they brought us homemade hush puppies so I was a happy camper since i had been craving them since getting to the beach. Â Drinks took a bit to arrive, but I was happily distracted by the hush puppies and didnt mind the wait. Â I had already taken a look at the menu, so I knew that I wanted the black and white sesame seared tuna (which I ordered rare, as seared tuna should be), and we decided on sharing the calamari and clam chowder for appetizers, which were both awesome-- especially the chowder.
As far as the main course however, I was slightly disappointed in my tuna, as it just wasn't seasoned enough (I rarely salt and pepper my food at the table, but I did toss a bit over the fish to flavor it up more). Â The sweet potato mash was way too sweet for my taste, and I'm not sure where the root beer flavor came in besides the sugar, but I know down south they like their sweet potatoes extra sweet! Â The Asian slaw wasn't my cuppa, but might appeal more to someone into that. Â Also the pickled ginger was just kinda tossed on the plate...I would have loved to see them doll it up a little, make it their own rather than just taking it out of the package. Â My boyfriend got the mixed grill, which he liked a lot, and his garlic mashed potatoes were really good.
Megan was our waitress and was very friendly and attentive.
Unfortunately we had no room for dessert, though that Bourbon St Chocolate Banana Cake sounded amazing and I will hopefully be back next year for that!
This place was terrific! Beautiful dock seating, oysters Rockefeller were STELLAR! Our server (megan?) was terrific, perfectly attentive and happy. We ate the steamed crab and shrimp combo which was extremely tasty. They have a really solid beer list - all quite reasonably priced. Also, we went on a Friday and when we left there were a ton of people waiting, I'd recommend reservations.
