Okay Food, Basic Beers on tap (nothing special)..large space but no more pool table, darts, buck hunter, etc.

Went there for happy hr last week with work friends and opened up a tab with my CC.  I closed my tab out and paid in Cash.  The di#K bag bartender still charged my credit card and essentially I am forced to pay again.  I realize I should have kept my receipt but never did I think after what this community has gone through they would hire A$$hOLE$ who would steal from a customer.  My tab was not a lot but seriously....who does this???

I would not recommend this place to anyone...Go to the one eye pig cheaper drinks and better food.

McGuire's Ale House is a sports bar and restaurant. Great Irish dishes and the Irish breakfast to die for. Shepherd's pie, lamb stew good burgers to name a few. These Guys transform this place from a dive to a place I will revisit often. Great large outdoor deck. I'm a fan!

Had a few drinks here last night, and I have to give them a lot of credit for doing up the place nicely. For those that have lived in Newtown for some time, everyone knows that this location used to host the somewhat shady "Hot Shots," which served little more than beer and pizza.

McGuire's is decidedly a better pub effort, with some good beers on tap and a nice pub menu. I can't speak directly for the food, but my friends who live down the street tell me it's excellent, especially for the price.

Tons of HDTV's everywhere, even over the fireplace. We watched some Olympic action last night as we sipped our cocktails.

I was a little surprised at how un-busy it was on a Saturday night, but I'm sure things will pick up once the notoriety increases.

    What a strange experience.

It started with our party getting greeted at the door by a woman who simply grunted at us and walked into the nearby bathroom when our friend mistook her for a hostess and told her we were a table of 4. Okay.

We went around the corner and were seated promptly in a practically empty restaurant. The menu is standard American pub food with a minuscule Irish flair. I mean, "Irish nachos" are really just cheese fries, aren't they? I'm sure they'd describe them as such in Ireland. Their draught beer offerings are decent and they had Guinness, which we can't say about a certain "Irish pub" back in New York.

Our server was prompt and attentive, without being pushy. She was actually really great. The food... the food was alright. Mediocre, but expected at that kind of establishment. The highlight of my meal were the sweet potato fries, even if they were overcooked.

My issues with this place started as we were working on desserts. A man who worked there approached us and said that our server was feeling sick and leaving for the night. He graciously offered to take over our table and asked us to finalize the bill. Done and done. Not 5 minutes later, I saw our server laughing and fooling around with another worker, not looking ill in the least. I get it. The place is practically empty and she's being released from her shift. Why lie and say she's feeling ill, when she's clearly laughing and carrying on 15 feet away from us? Especially when she just served us food. No one wants to hear that the person who just handled their dinner is now sick.

I easily let that go until a little while later. I'll admit that we're a chatty bunch who sometimes stay long after our meal. But we always watch around us, to make sure that there's either no wait for our table or to make sure we're not the only table left and keeping the staff around for nothing. I didn't think our presence in the restaurant was a problem, since they cleared our dishes and another table came in late and just received their food. But the guy who previously offered to take our table came over in a very agitated manner and informed us that his wife was waiting for him, we had to leave. There was no offer to move to the bar area, which was staffed and full of people. The place could have made a few extra bucks if he offered that, but his tone made it clear that he was extremely annoyed with us, so we left. His tone is why I will never set foot in the restaurant again and why our friends (who work and live in the Newtown area) will not return either.

This kind of jaded, vaguely misanthropic outlook could be expected from someone who has worked the same shift in the same place for thirty years or something, but apparently this place has only just opened. Bad start, McGuire's.

Good good, good service.  Very casual, laid back.  Classic pub fare with Irish dishes, too.  Al around a good experience.
