MARIANNE AND MARC GRUBBS ARE CROOKS AND CON ARTISTS!!!! They don't pay their employees and never have! They are taking advantage of young men and women with no intent on ever paying them, even tho they've worked for them loyally for months. The food is mediocre on its best day anyways, don't waste your money or your time on these incompetent so called business owners!

Hesitant to go after the poor review on here but stop by for lunch today and was pleasantly surprised. Tasty smoked brisket and pork, good mac & chee with BBQ sauce and brisket in there too. Started with an order of home made beer battered fried pickles that we're pretty solid too.

You know a funny name for a restaurant?  The Meat Pit.  Yet there it is on 125 in Amelia, Ohio, about 5 minutes down the road from where I live.  It conjures up this ultra bizarre image.  A giant pit, filled with meat, where you can go diving in head first Uncle Scrooge style, swimming out of the other end with a mouth full of smoky-sweet brisket.  It may be bizarre, but how can it not be tried?

And so try we did on a Saturday afternoon.  From the outside it smelled great.  From the inside it smelled, well, smoky.......just like everything tasted.  I had a Pork Belly Ruben with a side of Garlic Mashed Potatoes, and my wife had some Pork Nachos with a side of greens.  Both entrees cost $7.99 and were abysmally small.

My wife's nachos had ranch drizzled all over them, which it fails to mention on the menu.  You may or may not like ranch on your nachos, and both my wife and I are pretty neutral on it, but who slathers it on top of an order of them with no warning?  On top of that, most of the chips on the edges were burnt.  This probably had something to do with the fact that they were the thinnest chips I have ever seen in my life.  It was like they were made of tissue paper.  This gave a TERRIBLE taste to about a quarter of the chips.  The pork was dry and tasted like....well.....smoke, really.

My Ruben tasted like cheese, kraut and, you guessed it, smoke.  That was the only flavor present.  It seemed as though they didn't really marinate the meat in anything, and there was certainly no sauce put on it afterwards.  It was served on marble rye, and the crust of it was burnt as well.  The garlic mashed potatoes tasted like, wait for it, smoke.  There was no garlic to be found.

As a matter of fact, the entire restaurant smells so much like smoke that something could conceivably literally not actually taste like smoke but, in all reality, taste just like it.  Smell and taste, inexorably tied.

My wife did mention that her greens were pretty good though.
