Meil's is no longer in business after all those years...the location is now known as Lilly's...the same Lilly's in Doylestown and on the canal path in Lambertville. Â Breakfast was a bust...honestly how can you mess up breakfast but the pancakes were chewy and the coffee a little bitter. The pastry looked interesting but didn't sample. Â We are so disappointed that they didn't keep the world famous corn fritters and delicious hot chocolate that Meil's had offered for all those years on their menu...those two items will certainly be missed. Â Oh well, they are just vivid mouth watering memories for now.
Review Source:I like this homey cafe. Â The food is very well prepared and the portion sizes are enormous. Â I am a fan of the sweet potato biscuits -- party in the mouth. Â Not a fan of the prices as I feel they could be a little bit lower. Â Omelettes are around $15, which is a little exorbitant IMO. Â Service ranges from super friendly to crusty east coast; my last visit garnered a server who was polite enough but too tired to exert a lot of energy on superficial small talk. Â :)
Decor is cute, quaint, and features local artists. Â We arrived on a weekday, midmorning, so the place wasn't busy at all. Â A comfortable place to spend an hour or two with a good friend and calorie-laden goodies!
If it's true this place is for sale, it's about time, and I hope a pro takes it over. While the food is OK, it's clearly overpriced, and in need of a menu fix, for this converted gas station. As far as the long-time wait-staff, there are a couple with good attitudes, and there is also heavier lady that should never be in a customer service role, as her condescending rudeness insures that new customers will never return. My wife and I were long-time regulars (more than two dozen times), and got terminally bored with this place and stopped going.
Review Source:We drove here thinking the breakfast would be great but it is really just and overpriced small town cafe. $18 for an omlette in a small podunk town? Being from DC I could go have a brunch worlds better than this for less in the Nation's capital. Â Also, for how crowded this place was I saw nearly half of the people have to leave to get money from the atm down the street because they don't accept credit or debit cards. Â I honestly think it is a town scam where Miels owns the ATM down the street. Â
Anyways I don't recommend this place for breakfast. It's overpriced and the food isn't anything special.
The baked goods however were very good with their butter and homemade jam.
My husband and I stopped in on a Friday morning around 10:30. It was not busy when we arrived. A woman was taking a mans order for take out and so we stood patiently waiting for her to do so. Personally I feel she should have paused for the second to either tell us to sit where we'd like or I'll be with you in a moment! A good morning would have been nice too! She did neither. Instead she proceeded to the back without ever acknowledging us! I stopped her and asked if we could take a seat. She seated us and yes she was our server! Not pleasant! Not a good start for our first visit. My French toast was soggy, my husband enjoyed his. It is over priced but that's okay for a treat which is what we were hoping for, but the tone had been set. Not good:(
Review Source:Finally tried Meil's, after reading and hearing about it for quite some time. It didn't disappoint. I had the Chicken Pot Pie, and it was truly delicious and served it a way I have never had it - "PA Dutch Style" meaning there was no crust. We were advised to get half portions, and even then, the servings are very generous. My Mom ordered the Thanksgiving Dinner and was equally impressed with the home cookin'.
Already super full, we took two snookerdoodle cookies to-go and they, too, were obviously homemade and to die for.
Service was great, food fantastic - Meil's, see you soon!
I have never written a Yelp review nor do I really pay much attention to them but I had to weigh in on my experience here.
I had breakfast on a quiet, weekday morning. I ordered an omelet and asked for it to be well done because I like my eggs firm. My order arrived and I knew it wasn't cooked enough for me and I sent it back. The waitress did admit that she hadn't written it on the check because the cook usually does his eggs more on the well done side.
What I got back was a greasy, burnt mess. I could eat about half of it and had to cut away the burnt parts. The potatoes were a greasy mess as well and the biscuits were a day or two old. The owner was there and I should have pointed all of this out to him.
However, as a business owner, you shouldn't employ a chef that is pissed off when people send back their food and wants to "teach them a lesson".
I have heard that this place is for sale so maybe the owners just don't care about the food quality anymore. Next time, I will stick with my local coffee shop where they know me and the food is always good.
We love Meil's.
The food is terrific and well worth the higher price. We took a friend there for brunch on Sunday. After a much longer than expected wait for our table, we were visibly annoyed. The owner finally seated us and immediately said breakfast was on her.
This is a prime example of great customer service. It was obvious that they were having trouble turning tables and getting the food out that day. Every restaurant has this issue from time to time but her prompt and cheerful resolution was the correct way to handle the situation. (Lambertville restaurants: please take note.)
The food was great and the staff friendly. It is a must-stop for anyone visiting the Lambertville and New Hope area. And while you are there, go to the Stockton Market across the street. It's a gourmet treat for everything from vegetables to beef to fresh fish.
Talk about rude... We had to wait outside forever while the waitress was getting our  'table' ready... Not one apology, not one "give us a sec", and not one glance our way while there were plenty of empty tables waiting for their seats to be filled. Not only was it chilly that night, we had a pregnant friend with us in high heels while celebrating another friend's 30th birthday. Definitely not the way to end the night here.
Don't come here if you actually want to sit down and be served in a courteous, respectable and timely manner.
Just thought I'd give a quick update since I took a couple pics last time we stopped in for lunch. Â Everything is still delicious there except hubby had a creamy tomato soup that tasted weird - they took it off the bill no problem though. Â
I had the grilled salmon and subbed mashed potatoes for rice and it was perfect  - the fish had nice grill marks and was perfectly cooked -  juicy and moist and the fresh, tasty avocado and salsa were perfect with it.  Hubby had the spinach/mushroom saute with pasta and it was really yummy with simple clean flavors, he loved it and the lunch portion was plenty big.
Our server was friendly but not around enough. Â
They still have their "economy buster special" though it's $18 not $15 now.
if you're looking for a home-style meal with a little gourmet flare, this is the place! Â We've only been here for dinner, but we've always had a fabulous meal. Our favorites are their homemade soups, all the fish dishes and the delicious lamb chops. Â Service is fantastic and the fact that it is BYOB makes this a very reasonable place to dine.
Review Source:I find myself going back to Meils even after a have had horrible service experiences and waits that were borderline unreasonable.  Their breakfast is really great.  They have the best potato pancakes that I have ever had.  Their turkey club is memorable.  But balancing excellent comfort food, you have this eclectic post modern hippy culture wait staff that acts like they are doing you a favor by taking your order.  On one occasion, I ordered hard boiled eggs for breakfast.  When the waitress delivered our meal to the table, see gave me poached eggs instead.  I assumed that it was kitchen mistake and  asked if I could have what I  ordered.  She scolded me and exclaimed that poached were the exactly the same as hardboiled.  When I said I did not share her opinion,  she dropped to her knees in the middle of the restaurant and in a very loud voice exclaimed "Please let me beg for your forgiveness." I kid you not. Even with this more than bizarre experience,  when we were headed out for breakfast this morning,  I said "want to hit Meils?"
Review Source:Meil's is a nice little place on a corner in Stockton. They have wonderful baked goods and the food is superb. They serve good sold comfort food. The wait staff is very pleasant and efficient. The decor is pleasant, featuring Shadd Festival posters from the last god knows how many years.
They don't take credit cards but will accept your personal check.
Meil's is known for having the "best $15 tuna sandwich in the area." I'm not sure if the price is still $15, but the tuna sandwich is pretty darn good, even though it's made from regular ol' canned tuna and is best on plain white bread.
Meil's also makes a good, char-grilled burger and tasty dutch stuffing. Another good side is the cucumber onion salad, but it's too bad they don't have fries. For a more traditional burger and fry lunch, I'd go to Cravings (though the meat on the Cravings burger isn't nearly as good as the Meil's version.)
Rudest people on earth. Breakfast served 'til 11. Arrived 10:58. No breakfast. Right, we'll order lunch. No lunch orders 'til 11:20. So we can't order any food? No.
This would have been funny if they hadn't been so extremely rude about everything.
This place is also expensive. $3 for a muffin? WTF?
We went to Miel's for breakfast and they would not serve us- we showed up at 11:10 and they serve breakfast until 11:30. Â They said they were too busy and we were going to have to wait until 12 and then we could only have lunch. Â They then proceeded to glare at us and ignore us when we tried to order the pastries that were available to order out. Â One of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had!
Review Source:Meil's is *the* place to go for a great breakfast in the area. Fresh baked muffins and other pastries, combined with flavorful omelets and a location in a quaint town on the river make this a destination people flock to. As such, come early, it can get crowded!
We live in the area, so we often take advantage of their "economic stimulus" meals - reduced cost three course dinners. For around $20, you get an appetizer (soup, salad or their awesome Italian bread custard), main course and dessert. For the quality of food you get, it's hard to beat the deal.
Tip: try their Almond croissant French toast for breakfast. This is an amazingly decadent treat. Get the half order unless you're really hungry!
Read a local review on this place and my husband and I decided to give it a try. Â First impression of the town was quaint, small, and quiet. Â The Stockton Inn is right across the street. Â We came here for dinner and were immediately reminded of an old town eatery...the kind all the locals come to when they want a homey atmosphere. Â Quite frankly, we didn't know what to expect. Â As we went around 5pm, it wasn't very busy so we were seated immediately. Â We ordered the favorite potatoe pancake and corn fritters which were amazing...it's worth it just to come here and have these. Â The meals were really good... I had a 3oz filet and my husband had the seafood pasta. Â Most of the dishes come full size or 1/2 portion.. I recommend the 1/2 portion for anyone as this is more than enough food. Â And this is BYOB, so it's a good way to order alot and not have to spend it on overpriced drinks.
Would go here again and visit the local areas... beautiful country atmosphere.....
Been coming here for beaucoup years, and nothing has changed even though longtime former chef/cook Mario Korenstein now has his own restaurant, Summer Kitchen, in Penns Park PA. Enhanced comfort food, apparently all homemade, in a plain but funky setting with fast, friendly service. All sorts chow down here, from television personalities to both types of bikers, and everybody's treated the same. Arguably the best breakfast in metro Bucks, and also one of the best lunches with one of our faves being ham and beans with cornbread; however, dinner is less interesting, given regional alternatives. Super hot chocolate with homemade marshmallows, which beats their blah coffee. BYO, but right across the street from famed Phillips Wines; also smack across from the outstanding new Stockton Farmers' Market. On lovely warm weekends, when tourists swarm, parking can be an issue especially around lunchtime.
Review Source:What a great little place this is. It has that old time feel, yet the food is an upscale home cooked/comfort food style. Nice size portions, tables spaced nicely, great menu, service was good, everything is fresh, and the menu has some unusual selections that you won't find in other places.I checked all of the dishes coming out from the kitchen and everything looked great. We went on a lovely Sunday late afternoon, and found that the place was half filled and were not rushed at all. By the time we left, several people were arriving for dinner with bottles of wine.(I love byob's). I would imagine most have to wait on a Saturday night or possibly Sunday morning/brunch time. There is something for everyone at Meil's. The only downside I would say is the parking. There is only room for 4-5 cars on the property, so you may have to park down the street, which isn't a big deal, since Stockton is a quaint little town and you can check out the stores.Prices are not cheap, but you are getting very nice, quality food. This place oozes with the freshness of the food. Also, Meil's is open 7 days a week, and open till 9/10pm, depending on the day. I'd be here all the time if it was closer to my house. I think this is NJ's best kept secret. I can't wait to return.
Review Source:I decided to take a Sunday morning motorcycle ride with some folks and ended up here for a late morning breakfast based on the recommendation of a fellow rider down the road in Lambertville, NJ.
WARNING: If price is a consideration for you, ask to see the menu and check the prices before you decide to put your name in for a table. This will save you from the potential embarrassment should you decide this place is too expensive for your morning repast tastes.
That being said, if you decide that quality is worth the extra $$$, be prepared for a delightful breakfast with good service.
The worst part of the meal was the coffee which is really just some rather bland, hot brown liquid. Nothing objectionable other than the $2.25 price tag; but at that price this should be some tasty top shelf stuff and commensurate with the other fare. It isn't.
I and one of my riding pals had simple scrambled eggs and bacon. The eggs were not cooked enough for my taste even though I requested well-done, but they were fluffy and fresh and tasty. The bacon was thick sliced, cooked correctly and perfectly smoked - not thin strips of fat cooked to crumble into dust when you put a fork to it. You have choices of accompaniments and I chose a fresh fruit cup and a pumpkin scone. The former was plentiful and varied with strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries and melon. The scone was not of the overly dry variety, but was moist and flavorful.
Our third rider ordered a plate of scrambled eggs with pesto and grape tomatoes. It looked delicious and he offered no complaints. He even noticed that there was something unusual about the oranges served as a garnish on our plates. Our server informed us that they were marinated in some spices, the only one of which I can remember is clove. They were tasty, however.
Aside from the coffee, you go what you paid for here at Meil's. And it was a perfect day for this nice little roadside stop on our moto jaunt. I suspect that this is better when your on a bike, but then again I think most things are. Anyway, by bike or car it's definitely worth a stop here for a nice fall weekend breakfast.
Thoroughly enjoy the breakfast fare here as well as the dinner... Have tried the majority of the menu items over the past number of years and can honestly say I've never been disappointed. Â My favorites are the potato pancakes; the chilis and the sweet potato biscuit. Â I think that the chicken pot pie is quite good and would go back regularly for the simple fact that each dish is HOME style - comfort food... but with a culinary flare that makes it interesting; you can taste the attention to the food... it's always fresh and always spot on good.
