My family and I had a tradition to come here every year. We grew to love the tacky unique decor. There's always a wait but we would sit in the bar area, order cocktails and sodas for the kids during the wait. And usually went fast.
About 2 years ago we went back as usual and e service was terrible. We were crammed in a corner and our server couldn't get anything right, took forever for anything which we were ok with if she wasent so nasty to us. After my mother flipped out on the manager they gave us a gift card and apologized up and down. So this year we decided to give it a try again. This time the owner was in the front greeting people- rudely. I walk up and as I said hi, without a smile I got "how many" I said 2, and she handed us a buzzer and said "hope this activates" and took the next family. I was very angry- not a hello or how long of a wait?! And she's the owner. Not surprised though, the woman was handed the Resturant after her parents death. So has no people skills. At least the service was better then last time. Did feel a little rushed but was very nice. Food was delicious and very quick. But we will not be returning.
My first time to N. Wildwood, stepdaughter and bf bought a condo there. They suggested going to Menz for dinner Sunday night 6/30/13. To say the least the place is unique, but I got to a restaurant to eat, not for entertainment. Five adults and one two year old. I hadn't had breaded fried shrimp for awhile and it looked like a good place to try that, along with baked potato, cole slaw & house salad. The slaw & salad were ok, but the "so called shrimp" were horrible. Small to med size and housed in a large breading which was mostly air and lousy tasting at that. The baked potato, ( I didn't think ANYONE, could screw up a baked potato) yet their chef managed to do just that. It was dried out and tasteless , almost like pressed "fake" potato's. I can't say much for the rest of the party, they seemed to claim their food was good, but since I was picking up the enormous bill, that might have had something to do with it. At least the roll's were good, so I could fill up on them. Won't be going back there anytime soon.
Review Source:I went back to Menz Restaurant this past weekend after not going for 2-3 years. Was looking for a change of pace from the Wildwood and Cape May places.
Im not sure how to explain this place. The decor is whacky and tacky, the place itself is old, the food is good, and it all kind of works in a weird way. Â Great for families with kids, or just a casual dinner for a couple.
The seafood was surprisingly good and the sangria was too. Having the candy store attached is fun for kids or girlfriends with sweet tooth's. The restaurant always seems crowded and a reservation is a good idea especially for bigger groups. They have some weird seating policy that you will be seated within a half hour of your reservation ( i think?) Â
Definitely not a "must-go" on your trip down the shore but its a good casual restaurant that has something for everyone. We will be back.
