Bad service, bad food, in what could be a nice location and building for a dinner. This place made me sad. Go elsewhere.

They have the best pancakes.  On Sundays, I think, they have live music which makes for a chill Sunday brunch.

I have to give this a single star because we had such  a terrible experience here, one that I haven't had in a long while dining out.  OK, it's a "diner", expect mediocrity, but the server  -- poor thing -- was either triple-sat and in the weeds with NO backup help, -- I blame management for this --  AND or the kitchen was sub-staffed.  With only two servers on a Saturday night, trouble was bound to occur.

The food was all wrong, none of the orders were right --even if it WAS what we ordered, it was presented terribly; an app was completely missed.  We were patient to allow her to refocus and fix the problems but instead she failed to prioritize, left us hanging in dismay.  She obviously left food under the lamp so what we DID get was dried out and nasty.

As people who have all worked in the food industry, -- I admit I was a terrible waiter -- we understand that she dropped some plates and (cut her finger, so the doorman said) and fell behind;  basically it would have been solvable if she just STOPPED, regrouped and listened instead of putting on this fake table-side disposition and at least asked for HELP.

One of us finally went to the host/ manager man who offered comp desserts which we thought was kind of insulting when we hadn't even received the food we ordered.
He eventually comped the check and we left unfinished and very pissed.

    Disaster.
I would return to the Metro as it is nice inside and what I saw others eating, the food looked good, but some retraining is definitely needed to all staff.

Poor service, food would come faster if I could get back into the kitchen and cook myself. Bar service is just as slow.
I did speak to others that went there and they had a very similar to mine.

Can't judge a book by it's cover. This place looked good, so I brought my family for a dinner. Big mistake. The food was mediocre. The service was fine, but the owner freaked out over something. Check please! Avoid this place like the plague.

(04/28/2012)  Was on my way home and saw the sign for Metro Diner beaconing from atop a distant hill.  Felt like I had to stop.  Place was a little strange, seemed to be be diner/night club/ community center all rolled into one of the middle of a nowhere jug handle in Ringoes, NJ (pop. 5,532).  Service was pleasant, owner was terse, food was mediocre.  Had the Polish Delight (scrambled eggs with kielbasa and 3 potato pancakes).  Eggs were obviously from fresh (I got a bit of shell), kielbasa was salty and meaty as expected.  Potato pancakes were not quite like any I've ever had; not quite latkes, large as the plate, made from waxy Red Bliss and parboiled (as the gray color indicated), were slightly crunchy in a raw, not browned kind of way, batter was eggy.  Maybe I chose poorly, but probably won't be back through ever to be able to choose again.

Had breakfast with the family here on Sunday morning 01/8/11. First time here. Clean place. Friendly staff, good food, fair prices.

Only con was there was a fairly strong smell of poperee. Other than that. Good experience.

I freaking love this diner. The food is ALWAYS spot on delicious and the service is quick, with a smile. There is a ton to choose from, and in true diner style, breakfast is served all day. I really love going to this diner, and have been here probably a hundred times. Although I live much closer to the Country Griddle, this spis definitely the place to go. I usually have a hard time clearing my plate at a restaurant, but the food here is so perfect that I never, ever have a problem. Meat is always cooked perfectly, the food is never under or over done and everything is just perfectly delicious,

(of course they serve pork roll! This is New Jersey!!)

As others have mentioned, the atmosphere is definitely that of a more upscale restaurant, but that is kind of a nice change from the dirty grunge of a lot of crappy diners out there. I have never been during the entertainment evenings, since I usually go in the mornings or midday. I also have never had a wait of more than maybe twenty seconds to be seated. They have a good amount of seating available and the turnaround is pretty quick.

In response to not being open 24 hours, I have to say that you can't expect any place in Flemington, NJ or its direct surroundings to be open that late. Even Friday's and Applebee's are dead when they close at 1am. The town is full of older people, families and young children. There is no demand for it to be open that late, and it would be a waste of money for it to do so.

I thought this place had good food...until I got the runs. I was far from home, so that wasn't fun for me. Avoid this place unless you want to make your toilet your best friend.

I love this place. I eat out a lot - fine dining to hole-in-the-walls. This is not your typical Jersey diner. It has a slightly upscale feel, more like a restaurant.  It has a large menu w/standard fare, but also has things like potato pancakes, blintzes, etc. Lots of specials. I have eaten here for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch. Food is always fresh and tasty. Never had a bad meal. The restaurant and bathrooms are clean. There is always ample parking and there is a pretty neat koi pond by the front door. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday brunch time they have live entertainment. There is a beautiful piano to the left  as you walk in the front door. It's cool having the live entertainment. It can be just instrumental piano music, or another evening it may be a guiter player singing tunes like James Taylor,etc....I've had dinner here on these music nights and you can BYOB. It makes a very nice dinner night for affordable meals with nice entertainers and byob. I have seen at least a dozen entertainers on the weekends, and it's always an enjoyable experience. Service can be quick or slow or anything in between, depending on how crowded it is. Sundays are always packed. You may have to wait, but it's worth it. Also, check the hours. I've noticed, too,  that they close early and are not open on Mondays. They also open late, like 10am. Call ahead.

Diner's are supposed to be open 24 hours...not right to call yourself a diner.  Additionally, we went there at 9pm at night, for dessert, and they had locked their doors when the sign says open til 10pm.  The place had poeple in it too, not like they were completely empty.  Very disappointed, will never return.

This place is consistently good.  I am always please with my meals here.  I've had breakfast, lunch and dinner and can't complain.  More of a restaurant in atmosphere with the huge-selection menu of a diner.  I am a fan of the burgers.  I also like the weekend brunch menu.  The blackened-shrimp omelette was truly delicious.  We've taken large parties here and find that service is spot-on.   Not a 'classic' Jersey diner as far as ambience goes, but has the classic Jersey diner food that folks look forward to.  A friend of mine came from Colorado and had dinner with me here one night and said, "this is what I miss about Jersey"....

Essentially an upscale diner.  The decor is that of a decent restaurant (not a typical, grungy diner), and is nice and clean, but the menu is standard diner.  However, at Metro, I would not be afraid to order a meal that features meat because they serve quality food.  Service has always been good too.

What I like most about Metro?  They have DISCO FRIES!  This is a North Jersey diner special.  This is the first diner down this way that I have found to have them.  What are disco fries you ask?  Cheese fries with gravy.  That's right.  A heart attack on a plate, but so delicious.

First off, for a diner of it's kind, I'd have to say it's really a 3.5. NJ is known for its diners, bad, good, and great, and this one is up there. I don't think it will become a classic like Mastoris in Bordentown, but I've been there twice for breakfast and have been pleasantly surprised.

The food is just good, and as with most diners, there's a lot to choose from. Everything tastes fresh, is presented well, and you get quite a bit for what you pay for. I would say that the staff is very nice but not really attentive enough, but still, you could do far worse in a diner. I've seen signs for "entertainment" on some nights, but can't imagine how that would play out. I usually don't even like music piped through speakers when I eat, let alone someone whose "musical stylings" I'd have to listen to while eating.

So, if you're heading up or down Route 31 near Flemington, I recommend stopping by.
