My husband and I stopped by Saturday night at about 10:30.
The crowd was sparse at that time, but the place had filled up by the time we left at 12:30. Â The crowd was young, mostly 20's and early 30's, so we stuck out like sore thumbs.
There was a DJ named Dough Boy playing the tunes (hip hop, R&B, and neo soul) and they were so danceable, many of the patrons couldn't keep their seats. (including me)
Drinks were $4 for domestic beer, $5 for imported and $5 for my glass of wine (house chardonnay was Yellowtail.)
The best surprise for us, though was a new event at the Metropolitan. Â They had a poetry slam interspersed with the music. Â The organizer (I think his name is Rob) is going to try to make it a first-Saturday of the month regular event. Â The poetry was terrific, most of it hitting in the heart or the gut, and there was an open mike opportunity for anybody wanting to recite their own.
Who woulda thought there's be such an unusual and fun evening so close to home!
