Chorizo, ghee, and tamarind mean nothing to the grandmas in the back of this joint.  Can a pretentious foodie slum it with Hoosier comfort foods with a straight face?  Yes indeed, and with relish.

Everything on the menu is simple, hearty, and cheap.  I asked the octogenarian waitress what was good today and she told me the daily special verbatim.  And of course it was good.  I honestly believed her when she told me none of the sides came off a Sysco truck.  As it were, I had the Thursday special of baked pork tenderloin, copiously smothered in bechemel, and my choices of creamed corn and spinach,  That, chased by two slices of wheat, came to an astounding $6.25.  Nothing on the menu topped out over $10, but why would it?  Basically, if your grandma wouldn't cook or eat it, it won't appear on Mid City's roster.  That said, I bet they have killer chicken and noodles.
