I've eaten A LOT of katsudon in my day. Just trust me on that. Usually I don't like to eat Japanese food in America because every restaurant I try isn't very good, but I bet that has to do with the fact that we're in the Midwest...
Anyway, I had a ridiculous craving for Japanese food so I gave this place a try. My verdict on their katsudon? Pretty good! A little pricey, but it tasted authentic and the portion was enough to make my tummy full. A bonus was the two chunks of takuan they threw in there, making it even more legit. The ice cream was yummy and the delivery guy was friendly, too.
Formal dining style (no tepanyaki grill) sushi. Outstanding variety, very traditional. They have bento boxes, and a wide range of appetizers. It's not inexpensive, but the rolls are perfect, and I'd trust the sashimi to not have a gamey or chewy taste to it-- very fresh.
They also have noodle dishes. Good for entertaining or dates. Has a more formal feel than many restaurants in the neighborhood.... a more adult feel.
I used to love this place. Last year, I went for my birthday and was not impressed. The service was horrible. Â If you do decide to go, Here's what to order: appetizer: the Mikado Maki (ask them to make it with asparagus), Main: any of the sushi rolls or Tekkadon (make a special request to make it spicy), and the banana tempura for dessert.
Review Source:Best sushi in Bloomington. Unfortunately, it's the most expensive. Usually, I can get out of there for $20 to $25 and be completely full. While this is a lot for a meal I don't find it unreasonable.
Typically I stick with the normal rolls (spicy tuna, yellow tail, etc...) Â as they seem to provide the best value. I may get one of the fancy rolls as they are more expensive, however they don't seem to be worth the extra money. The nigri is a little pricey for two pieces.
Also, it looks like they have a wide selection of Japanese food (something other than chicken teriyaki, though I think they have that too). Â The traditional Japanese food is expensive. Of course with limited options in Bloomington, this may be your only option, unless you do it yourself.
Overall, this is my favorite "pricier" Japanese place for a nice dinner. I'd head to Sushi Bar for something quick and cheap.
