Mikado is located at 895 South College Mall Road, Bloomington, IN 47404. The UPS store is next to this restaurant. The location is very convenient because both Kroger supermarket and the international grocery store, Saraga, are behind Mikado restaurant. Therefore, you can have a dinner with your friend at the weekend after shopping in the College Mall and buy some groceries. However one thing I want to mention is that Mikado usually opens at 4:30 pm, and closes at 9:30pm on Sunday to Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, it opens from 4:30 pm to 10:30pm. At a result, we cannot eat some delicious food in this restaurant during lunchtime.
Just like other Japanese restaurants, generally Mikado has many different kinds Japanese food such as Sushi, Sashimi, Udon, and Japanese Hotpot, etc. The price is around $10 ~$30 for a lunch or dinner entrée. This price is not very expensive comparing to other Japanese restaurant in Bloomington. However this price is higher than the American food such as pizza. But their servers and waiter is very kind and patient to customer. Their food is very impressive and very traditional Japanese food. Thus, higher price can also be accepted. The atmosphere is very quiet and elegant for people who want to have a great and romantic night with their friends. However this is not adaptable for people who don't like quiet atmosphere.
For me I like the Shrimp Udon and Japanese hotpot., especially Japanese Hotpot. I eat this entree in a good Japanese restaurant in Indy. I also ordered Hotpot in that restaurant however its ingredients just vegetables not include some shrimps. It doesnt taste as good as I ate in Mikado before.
Well where do we begin? I know! Ordered an octopus salad with cuke and seaweed. It had dried seaweed that normally is reserved for miso soup, wads of it most of which hadn't even had proper time to soak in water and expand. Â The sauce was a nasty mix of dashi and oil. The whole thing was around $5. Well I didn't think it could get worse but it did, the sushi was like something you would buy in a grocery store, but a little bit worse. Oh and the last thing I had ordered was the gyudon. It for some odd reason had noodles and rice, and some very flavorless tough meat. Overall a very big $27 disappointment. I think I'll go to Steak N'Shake!
