Good job I didn't read the reviews before going here. Wow I guess i either have really low standards or maybe I caught this place on a very good day. We went for breakfast rather than our normal haunts and am very very glad I did, The Build your own omelet is fantastic, the country potatoes are well seasoned and the hash browns are superb. Te service was a touch slow but overall I will go back. Love it, at least for breakfast other meals? Well gimme time I'll get to them eventually.
Review Source:I have eaten at Mike's about 3 times in the last several years. In every case I have only had breakfast. Generally, the food is pretty good, generous but nothing special. The price is reasonable, the staff is friendly and helpful and the ambiance is your basic sports bar.
Unfortunately, on my last visit I got  one large piece of egg shell in my scrambled eggs. I could say I understand because when cooking eggs at home I have been known to get small pieces egg in the pan and not discovered them until I chomped on them. At Mike's I had one large piece of shell about 1/4 of the entire shell. How the cook missed something that large on a grill when scrambling my eggs eludes me.
Still, I was willing to be forgiving However, when I mentioned it to the wait person I was disappointed by the response. She did agree to notify the cook and returned with an explanation.
I was disappointed because I expected at least a sincere apology. More reasonable would be a discounted or free meal. That would be the sign of a well managed restaurant.
We are not talking about a cold entree of forgotten toast--we are talking about compromised food. I have been to restaurants and had hair in my food or bugs--I'm not one to get too excited. A good wait person will make some adjustment to the bill. Failing to do that gets you a bad review in Yelp and the loss of my business.
I may return to Mike's but I'll not be in any hurry.
I've been to Mike's a few times. Had a pretty good time, music was fun, decent DJ, could use a bit more variety.. Â We always sit at the bar and the bartender was great, good service, she was friendly and outgoing, so we felt welcome. She was great with all of the customers, Alecia, I think. Â Will go back.
Review Source:So we finally went here for dinner, It's been a place that I wanted to try. Everything that my girlfriend and I ordered was prepared exactly how we wanted it. We noticed that they had waffles on the breakfasts menu so we decided to try breakfasts a few days later. Everything was perfect, they even asked me how I wanted my Bacon cooked. My girlfriend ordered a English muffin and like me, likes it toasted well. It was perfect! Waffles were cooked perfect and country potatoes were tasty, even the biscuit/w gravy was very good. We will be back!
Review Source:Food here is normally good. Unfortunately our visit on Sunday, May 29 was not the norm. Wife had a chili burger. Way too much chili. Burger literally "drowned" in chili. Expected a burger with chili on it and not an open faced bun and beef covered in chili. Burger was asked to be cooked med-well but was burnt and dry. Offer should have been made to refund amount for chili burger. Waitress did take $3.00 off order and my chicken quesidilla was ok.
Review Source:Horrible service. Bartender acted like we didn't even belong there. Tried making eye contact, but no hello. She just watched the football game and "flirted" with the only 5 people at the bar (probably regulars). After a couple awkward pitchers, my friends and I  went to Raley's next door. Got 3 12 packs and 20 sausages for less than  what we spent at Mike's for 2 pitchers. I wish we could rate places with 0 stars, but I give it one for pity. My friends and I are never going back or recommending this place to other friends. I'd spend your money elsewhere.
Review Source:I know this place has taken a few knocks, but we had a decent time there. Â We have been to Mike's three times. Â The sandwiches and burgers worked well for us. Â The Irish Ido, which is a turkey sando featuring fresh carved turkey and REAL cheese, not cheese food or processed cheese like chemicals. Â Not many places will serve a turkey sandwich this way...the ingredients cost a bit more, and frankly, a lot of people can't appreciate the differences in quality. Â I also had a cheese burger, I ordered it medium, and it came out medium. Â The bar area is noisy at game times, and was especially so the night the Giants clinched the World Series. Â The drinks were tasty, and the beer cold. Â It is located in the Raleys Shopping Center in Oakley, next to Mt. Mike's. Â The wait staff was friendly, the food hot, the onion rings were good. Â I would go back. Â We asked if they get many Hockey fans, which we are...they did say if we wanted to watch a specific game, they would be happy to channel change one of the many screens in the place for us. Â We have not been here for karaoke, but I have heard it gets hopping in here when they have music. Â It is primarily a sports bar, with an area for sit down dining. Â I'd say give them a try, and judge for yourself.
Review Source:I can't say that I've ever had the food here, so this review is going to be based on the bar alone.
I've usually found myself being drug there by my friends on Thursday nights when they have $1 beers. That's about the only positive thing I can say about this place. Thursdays also happens to be karaoke  night. They blast people trying to sing SO loud that it's almost impossible to escape the noise. And to top things off, they charge a cover fee. I'm sorry, this is OAKLEY! I'd rather spend the $3 in roundtrip gas to head to Tailgaters.
Don't waste your time with this place. I wish I hadn't
There are only four words I think are appropriate for this place...
I MISS PASTA CAFE!
Went in to try the place and was hoping for some good food and typical service. Â It translated into no one in the dining room except for one woman whom I couldn't tell if she worked there or was totally an uninterested snob. Â We sat there for about a minute looking around, all eyes from the bar on us like we didn't belong.
Old, yellow-teethed women who's faces were one Oil of Olay treatment away from being a saddlebag made up most of the bar patrons. Â It's times like these where plan B's are awesome...our plan B was chinese food!
Mike, you just lost our business, hope this thrills you.
I was there the first week of July and the service was terrible! Â The waitresses were rude and the bar tender just wasn't welcoming. Â They should FIRE the whole crew and start over again. Â Avoid this place! Â Other than that the beer was cheap - but I would rather spend my hard earned cash at a place that is customer service orientated.
Review Source:Before I Start I Gave this Place 2 Chances because i like Clam Chowder. The First time i went i got a Bacon Stuffed Burger which was Something i Never Had Before,. And i never want again. The Burger was Pink Even though i asked for well Done. He Staff were Good At Getting me to come back on Friday to Try the Chowder Which i Did Ithink i am the Biggest Nut Case in Oakley.  The Chowder Tasted Like The Oldschool Elmers Glue with Rosemary I doubt i will Go back. i should have known something was Up when i saw all the Writing  on the Windows.......Ugh
Review Source:After hearing repeated raves from folks, I ventured on over to Mike's Beef 'N Brew . . . I really wish I hadn't.
Where do I start?! Well, I walked in at 2pm on a lazy Saturday afternoon. There may have been about fifteen or so people in the whole place. I waited for a few minutes for someone to seat me. Then, a few more minutes for a menu. The bartender came over and I ordered a Coke, which she brought back quickly. I placed my order only to discover (another few minutes later) that they were sold-out of Prime Rib Sandwiches. I was ok with that - these things happen . . .
So I ordered a Mushroom Swiss Burger, it sounded good and was one of the cheaper offerings (burgers hit close to $9 each). I ordered it Medium - remember this for later.
While I waited for my food, I saw an order at the table across from mine get completely messed up! I was worried . . .
And while I continued to wait, I was trying to figure out if this place is a "bar" or "restaurant". Because if this place is a "bar", why are there four bratty teens sitting next to me talking about things they shouldn't be at their age, while grown grisly men drink the well dry at the bar. Remember, it's only about 2:15pm . . .
And if this place is a "restaurant", why does management insist on playing Lady Gaga and Brittney Spears on loop?! I mean, they should want to attract customers who have jobs, don't enjoy this "ra-ra-ra, rom-rom-rom" music, and can support the business, not old drunks and bratty teens who are too happily lazy to find jobs and support themselves. By 2:20pm, I was really confused . . .
My food finally comes out and looks bad - so bad I didn't even take a picture of it! If you follow me on Yelp, Twitter, Facebook, Blogging, etc, you know I take a picture of EVERYTHING!
Let's start with the fries - did I look like a horse to them?! I mean really, only horses need to lick salt blocks, not humans!
And remember how I told you I ordered a 'medium' burger? For those of you that don't know, a 'medium' burger is slightly PINK in the middle - not BLACK! And if the MIDDLE of the burger is BLACK, you can imagine what the outside looked like . . . It wasn't pretty. My burger tasted like volcanic ash . . .
To be fair, the cheese was decent and the three mushrooms atop the burger were nicely cooked. So I guess it wasn't all bad!
Oh, before I go, you should know this experience cost me $11.30 - for a burger, fries, and coke! Come on "Mike's Beef 'N Brew", I can spend far less at countless other local restaurants and receive far better food and service. I rarely give bad reviews but just like the Starbucks across the street from here, they begged me for it. Maybe it's something in the water?!
Despite this poor experience, I will journey back (in the far future) and give these guys another shot - but in the evening. I discovered they have live music (and NEW bands every week) - an experience poorly lacking in East Contra Costa County. And to be fair, I've heard good things about this place, that's why I came to give them a try. So was this perhaps an "off day" for Mike's Beef 'N Brew, maybe, but bad experiences usually don't happen to a well run business. Have you been here too? Post your reviews after reading mine . .
So I get these itches, these urges to perform. Almost like a coke addict looking for the next fix, my mind spins at the thought of when I can sing in front of people on stage again. Like if I don't karaoke TONIGHT, I will hurt someone kinda deal.
Last night was one of those nights. You would be surprised and utterly appalled at how many bars don't have karaoke on Friday. Blasphemy, I tell you! Â I called 5 places...nada. I asked Emily J, the karaoke queen of East CoCo and Yelper friend, what spots have karaoke on Friday nights. She sent me this genius website that listed all the karaoke spots in the entire bay area. Alas, Mike's Beef n Brew was on the list. Karaoke on Fridays. SWEET.
What a cute little spot in the Raleys Shopping Center no less. Kinda hard to find at 11:45 at night in the sticks. The kind of place where everyone makes it a point to know your name. The bartender asked me for my ID. Forget hugs or kisses. That's the universal sign of love because people always love looking younger than they look :-)
Karaoke was poppin! Suzette did an awesome job -- one of the best KJs I've had the pleasure of meeting and who can actually sing pretty well! Harmonizing "Last Dance" with her for the last song was nothing short of memorable! So much fun....
I will definitely be back!
