One of the only non-digital jukeboxes in town and it's fantastic. I like the dive bar ambiance and they staff is friendly. They have fair prices and decent food.
The back room where the live shows are is pretty cool. They do often have a cover over in the back but not always. I recommend the Pub Trivia on Sundays. Over the years it's evolved but it always has remained fun.
I love the food and while it's not really a date place I always throw this place out there when my friends and I are asking ourselves where to grab some dinner. I recommend the black bean burger basket and also the large nacho platter. Delicious.
The back patio is great if the weather cooperates with you. I feel it's at it's best on off nights, Sun - Thurs. On the weekends, if you're not going to a show, it can be hard to find a seat.
Definitely one of the top bars to check out in the Iowa City area.
I'm a member of that rowdy group of librarians there on Thursday nights that sing along to Queen's "Fat Bottomed Girls", and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
That being said, I love this place. It's priced reasonably well, my drink weapon of choice is the tall boy for $2.50, and mixed drinks are usually around $3, and they have drink an food specials every night. I've never been disappointed at the food quality, and I've had a lot of it here. There's maybe one sandwich over $10 but they all come with fries or house salad - which is not that terrible iceburg lettuce but real spring mix!
The wait staff has always been attentive and friendly and the only times they weren't so much was on football weekends or graduation.
I've been here for a couple of live shows, too, and it's nice to have the back separate for those, especially because there's a bar there, too. But I'm all over them opening the back on nights they don't have events because it's pretty damn roomy back there.
There is a decent amount of seating when the weather's nice, but if you can't sit outside, it's tough to squeeze in large groups. We've always made it work and never seemed to get any shit from the servers for that, so I'd recommend this place for groups but get there early and tip well.
AND! They allow board games. Many a night has been spent in the booth by the window trying to draw out "camping" to my drunk pictionary partner. Even when they guessed "Garden of Eden", we all came out winners, thanks to The Mill.
