The beer is only a secondary reason to visit MVB.  The main reason?  Their food.

We have visited 3-4 times now and have been consistently blown away by the quality and creativity in their small plates.  Fish dishes have been fresh and refreshingly creative, the vegetable dishes will astound you with their depth of flavor and inspiration, and the large plates are satisfying and well thought out.  The coolest part?  The menu changes all the time.  A dish you wanted to try yesterday may not be there tomorrow.

    Some of my favorites:

+  The Chorizo dish with peanuts.  PUT IT IN MY MOUTH!
+  Fresh Anchovies over bread with cheese.  Amazing.

So let's talk about the beer.  Their house beers are quite tasty and the best value.  Some of their imports can be rather rare and are moderately priced.  I especially like all of their Saison beers over the summer months.  Their CA beer selection is equally impressive and I really enjoyed having the Old Rasputin on a nitro tap.

The bartenders have been great and we really enjoy every visit.

My only gripe?  The minimalistic decor is a bit too minimalistic.  It's like an IKEA exhibit.  With that said, I love the "library" feel along the back wall.

In the end MVB gets a full 5 stars from me!

Like the city it is in, way overrated and full of attitude. A brewery/pub should be relaxed, unpretentious and informal. MVBW is populated by your typical Mill Valley hermitards (entitled neo-yuppies who drive Range Rovers with fading "NO WAR FOR OIL" stickers). The only reason to go to MVBW is to see a Star Wars Cantina assembly of worthless Yahoo investors and their newly married Prop 8 BoyToys.

Simply put: Beer great, food really good but expensive, and the limited amount of open seats versus seats held for reservations is completely annoying.  So if you can walk in and get a seat, you are likely to have a 4-5 star time, but this is far offset by the nuisance of that possibility being a rarity.
