The Mix is where it's at. I recently discovered that they have Angry Orchard on tap which just makes this place even better. Sitting out on the patio chatting with friends is a great way to spend any night. There is almost always live bands playing on the weekends and even if its not your cup of tea genre of music (it's a variety as wide as the Grand Canyon) it's still nice to see a live band and drink a drink. Sometimes getting a drink is a little difficult because of the crowd but it's never been so long I wanted to leave. Try this place for some good drinks and live music

The Mix is a consistent and well loved fixture of the San Antonio bar scene. The drinks are cheap, they're strong, and they are no frills. The small patio will fit every smoker in San Antonio, somehow. There is never a cover and always music to enjoy. Don't expect any sort of fancy glassware, shaken cocktails, fresh juices, or fancy garnishes. Expect to get hammered, expect to rock out, and expect to run into every kind of person you can imagine.

The Mix is one of those places that you can never take away from San Antonio. I've been going here on and off since I hit legal drinking age. Sometimes you can catch some really great bands here. The atmosphere is always chilled, imagine hanging out at your bestie's garage who happens to own pool tables, a stage, beer on tap, & a liquor license.  That's what the Mix reminds me of.

It's worth making the stop along the St. Mary's strip. It's even better if you know the band playing there. They have plenty of beer selections, which makes me happy. Decent shot prices and a friendly staff that will keep you coming back for more.

I came here on a Sat night to meet few friends, they have a live rock band, and we not a big rock band fan so all of us left early.

You have to there early to get good seats, parking is kind hard to find, the highlight of the night was Shiner Cheers, great beer.

I think I will try this place again, I like the settings, I guess it just wasn't my night that night.

Oh the Mix.... my dear neighborhood bar. Ever since its been smoke free its always a great place to stop by and grab a cheap pitcher to share with a friend. Ill often go to demos across the street first and then over here for a quick drink or two, or six. They have live bands, a fun outdoor seating area and even swing dancing on some nights. :)

Ha! So I came here last night after reading the stellar reviews, and I must say... I think I enjoyed it a lot more than my buddies did.

While 'The Mix' is not what would readily come to mind when I think of 'my scene', I still appreciated the genuineness, laid-back vibe, loud music, and overabundance of black clothing. I guess I was in that kind of mood. My group of former frat boys and sorority girls were a bit more... apprehensive.

'The Mix' is probably the closest real bar to my Beacon Hill home, and I'll definitely be back, but now that I know the type of place it is, I'll make sure to bring a more laid-back crew.

Visiting San Antonio from LA, I checked this place out because of all the good ratings and I definitely see why. Cool bartenders, great live music, and all around fun environment. Don't know if I'll ever visit this town again but if I do I wouldn't mind coming back.

The Mix, its the perfect Mix. The staff make you feel at home, pour heavy and keep you safe. No fighting, and they mean it. Butter, Polly, Mish, Marc, Beer, Adrien and the others are FANTASTIC! The local bands are a good selection, its not always the same music scene night after night. They had a Dj (jive bomber i think) that guy was pretty great too. They have a couple pool tables, some darts, an enclosed patio, ok parking and great drink prices. I wouldnt have expected much because of the area but WOW! i see this place full more than the other bars around it. AND, there is a pizza guy that will sometimes come around and offer up $5.00 pizzas. I like that. Not far off the freeway too. I likes it. It was also voted in the San Antonio Current as #1 meat market in San Antonio, i fully support that. Hot guys, hot girls... NICE!

I once avoided this place because the cigarette smoke would irritate my eyes to the point where I wasn't able to enjoy the Billy and the Barnburners concert held every Sunday night here at one time.

But lo and behold that was almost 2 years ago and the city of S.A. finally enacted a smoking ban and voila, I can breathe and see clearly now!  (exhales)

I came here once in January to see an art show then again a few days ago to celebrate a  friend's birthday.  I also saw a coworker here having a beer with his pals.  An awesome local punk band that sounded a lot like Green Day during their early times played that night.

Great people, decent drink prices (Love Ruby Redbird on draft for $2.50, can't quite qualify spending the same for a PBR), and the atmosphere made me feel right at home.

No longer can I complain about having a hard time trying to meet people in San Antonio! Everyone at the bar was welcoming and we spent the evening on the porch chatting, evading the Spurs game crowd. Once the game wrapped up, the music started and I've never felt more comfortable. The dive bar aesthetic makes it feel like every bar I miss from the other cities I lived, but maintains a sense of individualism. There is a crowd that clearly comes there often and they lack the pretentiousness and superiority complex that I've come across at other places. Instead, everyone seemed to be happy to mingle together. Almost immediately upon entering we were asked to share a table. This is what I've been looking for, what I've needed. Without a doubt, I've found an entryway into the scene I've been hoping to find with this little bar on the corner and I will be visiting again very soon.

It's a pretty rad little punk rock bar. Good music was playing and my vodka tonic was inexpensive. It's nothing fancy but cool atmosphere and quality people win every time.

Am I a hipster?  I mean, I consider myself a foodie, love farmer's markets, micro-brews and am currently in the market for bicycle.  I have no idea the criteria for hipsterism but if frequenting this place qualifies me, then hell yes.  Stopped by for a few beers before an event and I instantly felt at home.  What's that you say, it's happy hour and Ruby Redbird is on draft for 2.50?!  Ahh, I'm home.

This is admittedly, a dive bar.  Sure, the bathroom doors don't quite close, but I love a place where the regulars range from a guy with a ponytail and tribal tattoos to an older couple who came on bikes.  They have a great selection of beer on draft, about 15 different brews ranging from the usual like Miller and Guiness to beers straight outta Alaska.

Definitely going to come again for the Happy Hour and maybe stick around for the any of the large list of bands that play this venue.

the first time i went to the mix, i felt like i didn't have the requisite number of tats or piercings. that's been over a year now, and if i went in there with a zoot suit, i'm sure everyone would be just as friendly, the beer would still flow freely, and the band would still be loud. i went on first saturday, and there was a cider special, a band that one of my friend's described as dashboard with a splash of U2, and the matrix on the tvs. eclectic? yes. since it's located on the st. mary's strip, you may have a rough time finding parking, but once you get inside, be prepared to get cozy with your neighbors, since getting a table on the weekend can be a challenge. there is also a patio, which is nice on a cool night. don't know if there's food, but i saw a guy sitting at a table with a bag of cheezits, which may or may not have been indicative of a vending machine on premises. if you've never been to the st. mary's strip, it's a must go. it's a fun and lively atmosphere. the crowd is pretty young, but keep an open mind, and enjoy the joint!

Crowded on weekends, this is ground-zero for downtown set's late night marauding.

Support your local hipster bars by visiting this long time happening. You'll run into old friends, spill beer on strangers and accidentally hit on the lead singer in the featured band. I've never paid a cover and always leave with a smile. Best part of the Mix is the excellent location. There are a ton of other places within walking distance if the crowd isn't your scene or the lead singers wife is giving you the stink eye.

I used to frequent this place when I lived in San Antonio.  Now that I'm in Austin, I haven't been there in years.  So when I went back, I was surprised when I saw a few old faces.  The bar is nice and they mix drinks well.  Nice little room that's quiet in the back.  Decent patio for street viewing.  The band was decent and played some good covers. Of course I'll be back again...

Cool neighborhood bar.  Outdoor seating that's pet-friendly.
    Good munchies served gratis too.
Happened to be in there one day that the Tecate sales guy was there too, and further made the lucky choice of ordering said Tecate, and subsequently had my drinks bought after he overheard my beverage of choice!  Right place - Right time!

I'm all for dive-y rock and roll bars... in Austin. Say for example, Beerland.
    The Mix? Methinks not...

Walking into this place is a literal time warp. 'cept not in the cool vintage-y way you may imagine. More like hanging out with a bunch of holograms from 1997-2001. Bleech!

Very lame-o San Antonio. St. Mary's is my 'hood but SA is like 10 years behind the rest of the world and The Mix is the purrrfect example!

The "punk" music is so cheesy and sad. I would be embarrassed if a San Franciscan or Chicago punk came and saw what SA had to offer in terms of live music.

Good place to go for cheap drinks and good live music. Every time I've been to the Mix, the music has been good rock music, which is what i like. No cover, so it gets even better. Only complaint is don't get too drunk, cause you don't want to accidentally take any of the girls home that go here, I know it's mean, but sadly true...

This place was really crowded, had really good live music, and they let us in with no cover charge.  Doesn't get much better!  Except there seemed to be a disproportionately large amount of fat chicks here... lots of very big people in general here...

The Mix is the cornerstone of the St. Mary's club district--a meat market, living-room-away-from-home, and live music venue rolled into one. The selection of beers, both bottled and draft, is remarkable by San Antonian standards. The drink specials, though unpredictable, are reasonable, and occasionally insane: "Four dollar Shiner pitchers? YES! I will have another!"  Weekdays can be monotonous in terms of familiar faces and cover bands, but if you're not claustrophobic, weekends are a blast, with out-of-town headliners or top-notch local talent keeping The Mix interesting. During busy times, it can be somewhat of a wait to get a drink, but use the time to enjoy watching the hustling bartenders wreck shop like poetry in motion. When Mish is working the bar (rarely, lately) trust her to make a mean michelada!

So I got banned from this place. Still a cool spot from what I remember, cool drink specials, lots of nice IPA (I think I was too drunk x 20) and some a great place to run into some locals. Always some good tunes. I think Sundays were Rockabilly nights, the best night to go. Good place. If I was not banned I would still go :)

I'm not really sure when this place changed from a college bar to rockabilly bar but I think it's great.

the drinks aren't crazy cheap but it's resonable. the bands that they bring are all locals and most of it is pretty great. the bar can get pretty packed but they have this great patio area. the bar can also get a bit packed with smoke so I would recommend some patio use and I'm a smoker. it's a great bar that I think all San Antonio locals and visiting friends should check out.

This MIx is kind of the perfect dive bar. I'm giving them five stars because what they do, they do really well. Don't get me wrong, you'd never confuse this place with the Four Seasons.

When we stopped in here on Friday night, we immediately felt at home. The bartenders couldn't have been friendlier, the beer selection was great, and the crowd was an eclectic "mix" (pun intended). Everyone seems really laid back and there just have have a good time hanging out with friends.

Coming from a non-smoking city, it did kind of make me laugh to see a cigarette vending machine. I LOVE the old-school Ms. Pac Man game and wore my arm out trying to make it to the next level. There is a small patio out front, darts and pool tables. This will definitely be a regular stop when in San Antonio.

If you're looking for a no-frills kick-ass brew selection mix (pun sort of intended) and match good time, this is an absolutely fabulous place to start. Mix (if you will) one part easygoing and sharp barstaff, a twist of enigmatic if comfortably friendly regulars, shake with a bar band or two, throw a heavy pour in there and you know what I'm talking about. All they're missing are the sleeping bags. I could have forwarded my mail here and been perfectly okay for awhile.

Bathed in blue light with a side room full of pool tables, The MIx is just what it purports to be: a mix of friends and soon to be extended family, wrapped in the warm embrace of tonight, surrounded by the possibility of expanding smiles in the offing. I can't in all honesty say that I've spent countless nights here, 'cause that wouldn't be true. But these guys get the best part of what being a neighborhood staple is. And whether you're a bar or a friend, there will always be something special about that idea.

I've enjoyed myself every time I've been to the Mix.
Seeing a band at the Mix is a plus because there is no stage.
    Sometimes it get's crazy packed.
    Well priced Pitchers.
    Patio with table and chairs.
Not too bright, not too dark.
I'm pretty sure they had a back room with couches and stuff which is great when you're with a large group and already drunk. The last time I went, it was shut though.

I loved going to the mix while I was in town. Cool atmosphere with no douche bags and cheap ass drinks. I guess compared to L.A. anything is cheap, but this spot is aight. Can't wait to go back

This is where my husband became a fixture while I was away in boot camp and the purgatory that followed (more training). I'd been there before and it was pretty cool but I never really saw what all the hype was about....but the crowd here knows how to get down.
Pitchers are so cheap here, there's no way you'll walk out sober....it's just fucking badass. There's live music every night, mostly local acts (good ones). There's also a couple of pool tables. Good luck getting a chance to play, I've seen the same people hogging them up for hours. Ladies, the restrooms are an AT-YOUR-OWN-RISK thing, There's about a 3 inch gap between the doors to the stalls so your business is pretty much everyone else's too. But who cares....this place just kicks ass.
