I can't get enough of this place my boyfriend and I love going on Monday nights for Martini Monday and so does everyone else in Wichita so be ready for a crowd and if you get there after 10 plan to wait outside for people to leave this place is poplar! And don't be afraid to share a table that's what they do at Morts! The live entertainment is awesome and you can't beat the great patio seating! I just wish they would expand on the other side so there was more seating outside!
Review Source:My favorite place for a "night out" in Wichita. A tiny place that even when full keeps its charm with somewhat dim lighting, brick walls and awesome little bar. The staff are some of the nicest I've ever had in a bar, and maintain this late at night and when it's packed.
There's almost always great live music being played here; sometimes it's inside and sometimes it's outside in the covered and heated (so you don't have to worry if it's winter) space. This space is great because, as the name might suggest, they do sell cigars here so you can pop outside with your drink and smoke the pretty well priced cigars on offer.
Their martini list is great as well. I've been slowly making my way through its entirety during my trips here and I haven't found one that isn't delicious yet. They have anything from the classic martinis to crazy concoctions I'd have never thought to put together. These aren't all your traditional martinis, but all are served in martini glasses...but if you're a guy and worried about looking manly they also have a decent selection of beers and regular drinks as well, but don't shy away from the martinis too quickly. I would 100% recommend getting their bloody mary as it's the best I've ever had. Ever. Just the right amount of spice and finished off with a stick of beef jerky which is incredible.
I love this place, and I brag about it to everyone that isn't lucky enough to live near it.
Though my exploration of Wichita's nightlife scene pales in comparison to the city's restaurant scene, it's hard to have a bad experience at Mort's. Regardless of your appreciation for cigars or martinis (to both I am indifferent), the atmosphere here is more relaxed than a sports bar, less mind-numbing than a club, and with live music, fun to sit on the patio and watch the rest of Old Town struggle to make something of their weekends. Suckers.
Review Source:So, I'm still a fan. But I think my tastes in alcohol have seriously changed over the years. They do have a HUGE list of cocktails, but they're just not my style. The menu is incredibly heavy on quite sweet, flavored martinis. That's just not how I drink, and I feel like that's the main pull of Mort's.
Still, it's a great space, cozy and intimate. I stop in for a visit on most every trip I take back to Wichita.
Oh and the spicy popcorn is just stupid addictive.
Great staff, awesome environment, and now with their heaters you can hang outside and smoke a cigar and be totally ok, even when it's freezing outside! Â AWESOME! Â Also trivia on Wed nights is pretty fun. Â The staff there really makes you feel like a regular after just a few visits, and the live music is nice too
Review Source:Great place to go and get some cocktails. Cheap prices, nice ourdoor space. I actually hate it when there is live music because of the small size of the bar its hard to carry on a conversation. Only time I had an issue is when my girlfriend ordered the 'orange julius' cocktail and they gave her key lime pie but insisted that it was orange julius unless they have green OJ, they were wrong.
Review Source:Occasionally I struggle with the rating for a place due to mixed feelings - this is one of those places. Â I have been here 3 times now while in Wichita on business - so view my comments from that perspective.
In summary, I like going here, have met some fun people here, and will return. Â But I am disappointed by the foo-foo nature of the so called "martini's" that they serve. Â Ok, maybe I am being a old fart, stuck in my ways. Â But that is who I am and I won't apologize.
A martini is a martini - fine if you want vodka instead of gin, or a vesper (gin and vodka), but "Godiva chocolate infused vodka, Godiva white chocolate liquor, and dark creme details cacao"? Â That, my friends, is a dessert, not a martini. Â And a Cosmo is a Cosmo - just because you serve it in a cocktail glass (what some of you refer to as a martini glass) does not make it a "martini" - just like a Manhattan is not a Martini, even when it is served in the same type of glass.
I guess I am sounding like an old grumpy guy, and I don't mean to be down on Mort's. Â I like going there. Â I am just a little frustrated since we went there because everyone talks about their great "martini's", Â But what I saw was a menu of sweet concoctions meant for a younger crowd that thinks they are being cool drinking "martini's" when they are really just drinking sweet dessert drinks. Â
What I like about Mort's:
- fun and casual atmosphere, unpretentious and entertaining
- friendly bar staff
- fun ad friendly crowd
- outdoor area for nice evenings (or smoking)
- a couple of TV's for catching the game (and the TV's are nicely placed out of the way so they do not dominate the bar)
- a few snack offerings to mellow out the alcohol
- good, strong, decently made cocktails
- reasonable prices and good drink specials
What I didn't care for as much:
- limited selection of top notch spirits - particularly gin, vodka, and bourbon
Note 1: in a quality true martini, the flavor of the spirit dominates. Â Thus martini drinkers tend to have a preference for a particular gin (or vodka) so it is essential that good selection of quality gin (or vodka) be available to meet their preferences.
Note 2: the same applied to bourbon or rye for a Manhattan
- Stir!!!! Â Or at least be prepared to stir. Â For most people other than James bond, a proper martini (or Manhattan) is stirred. Â Shaking chips and melts the ice too fast, watering down the drink. Â It also makes it cloudy with ruins (in my opinion) the visual appeal of a clear amber Manhattan.
Note 3: the bartender seemed surprised when I asked for my second Manhattan to be stirred, and then didn't stir it long enough.
- They need to have proper ingredients. Â My original order was for a vesper - gin, vodka, and Kina Lillet. Â The first bartender didn't mow what it was. The second did, but admitted to not having the Kina Lillet. Â Did they have Lillet Blanc? No. How about Cocchi Americano as a substitute? No. Not even Orange Bitters. Â The suggestion was to use Stoli Orange flavored vodka. Â Sorry - see note 1 above.
- But if I wanted a chocolate vodka drink, I was all set
So you see where I am going with this. Â I'll go back to Mort's the next time I am in Wichita, but now that I know what they think a martini is I will stay away from those.
I stopped by during the day for a drink, and made a note to come by later and see what was up. Â Around 9:00 or so I went back and sat on the patio. Â There was a guy playing guitar and singing.
I had a lovely time, met a lot of cool people, and really enjoyed the standard gin & olive martinis there, along with a few cigars. Â Prices are VERY reasonable, all things considered. Â If you're into martinis or cigars, you should give Mort's a try!
Awesome place to hang with friends. On warm nights, sit outside and listen to live music while smoking a cigar or cigarette. The drink menu is extensive and reasonably priced. Been here a few times and have always had a great time. Waitstaff and bartenders are always friendly and fast. The only con is the limited seating outside.
Review Source:A nice Cozy little place. Always a nice mixed crowd.
The ""Fallen Angel" Martini is my fav. dessert drink and the "Dirty Goose" is by far my favorite and they make a preeeeety good Martini here!
Service has been excellent everytime and summer nights are great on the patio. Preferably on the weekends when they have live music.
(I think they even have 2-4-1's Mondays)
Mort's is the best little bar in Wichita!  The  staff is outstanding and the weeknight specials are great. Â
On the outside gate it tells you right away that "At Mort's we share tables", and the atmosphere makes me feel like I'm at home. Â For me it's the perfect place to relax, hangout for the night, or serve as the meeting place before going to a larger venue.
A small, REALLY, small place, good for weeknights. Â Drinks are quality and well made, the bartenders are friendly, and a nice selection of cigars at reasonable prices. Â
Its small though, real small. Â if you didn't come with a group, don't plan on really socializing, as everyone just camps at the tables and doesn't talk to new people.
I would definitely be at Mort's a lot if I lived in Wichita because it was a small, unpretentious bar with a big ol list of martinis. Â
We came in and managed to snag a table after some other people left and then commenced to drinking. Â I got a dirty martini and it was done pretty decently so I had about 5 more! Â The crowd was laid back and relaxed. Â We also had some of the popcorn kept in the front by the door - you can help yourself. Â May I recommend taking the popcorn from the right side? Â It has jalapeno salt on it, so it was extra delicious! Â You can also smoke cigars and/or cigarettes in here so be warned if you don't like that sort of thing.
Overall a great laid back bar - next time I come back I hope it is warm weather so I can sit on the patio!
Mort's is probably the coolest place in Wichita. Â The martinis are awesome and the service is top shelf. Â In the warmer months, they have great live music on the patio. Â It's small inside and out, but this place is really cool. Â Say hi to Frank if you see him (he's the owner). Â The staff is attentive, cool and easy-going. Â No pretense here, even with cigars and martinis. Â Normally, there aren't a lot of folks smoking cigars (if any), so don't let that scare you away. Â Mort's ROCKS!
Review Source:The best atomsphere in the Old Town Wichita area. We had "pop culture" martini, a friends creation on the martini list. Great staff, nice out door seating options.
Nice to finally find a place without the "19 year old Frat Douche Bags", and the "I didn't know MTV ever played music" hussies.
Wish we didnt have to leave so soon.
This is quite possibly my favorite place in Wichita. I love that it's a small bar and the bartender doesn't even need to ask for my drink order on Martini Mondays (2 for 1!).
The staff is incredible- especially Emma.
The feeling is great- a cozy classic cigar bar with a great patio space. The cigar smoke can get to be a bit much and does stay on your clothes for awhile- but it's worth it
I love this place. Â At first I was reluctant to go, but my husband always wanted to check out this cigar bar downtown. Â I just moved to Wichita from D.C. (definitely a change of pace) and when I hear "cigar bar", i think pretentious (ie Oeno). Â Needless to say, I didn't feel this way about Mort's. Â It's very quaint and if you go on a weekday as my husband and I did on Monday night, the bartender will give you his full attention. Â The 2-4-1 martini and $2 drafts deal was great for Monday (and I think they have the same special on Sat). The place wasn't congested with smoke either. Â Love it, Love it, Love it. Â Haven't tried the food yet, but surely will when we go back.
Review Source:Amazing martini list, cozy atmosphere. Sometimes it's hard to find a seat, but if you wait for just a little while, someone will leave or move, so it works out. I love 2 for 1 night Mondays, and in the summer, it's a great place to just sit outside and enjoy the live music or just hang out with friends.
The staff has always been friendly and helpful, even when I needed directions to another bar one time! Good atmosphere, and it almost makes me feel like I'm not in Wichita.
Morts will always have a special place in my heart (it's where I met my now-husband). We call it the little gingerbread house. I'd been going to this place for a few years before moving out a state and like to visit each time i'm back home. Love sitting outside on the patio and drinking my favorite fallen angel martini. Great music at night with the live jazz. The only downside is sitting inside because it is a cigar bar and it gets smoky crammed inside. Get there early to get a table outside when it's warm outside!
Review Source:I love Mort's as well with only a few complaints. Â While the martini menu is out of control extensive... the martinis are way too tiny. Â Are we serving Barbie??? Â So, for me... it is only worth going on Mondays when there are 2-4-1's because it's more like 2=1. Â I've bartended for many years at various places... and Mort's are the smallest and most overpriced I've seen. Â My suggestion, go on a Monday night and ask for your martinis on the rocks instead. Â The bartenders actually make them bigger this way, go figure... and its the same price. Â Then it's like having cool, crazy mixed drinks and if its summer time... they stay cold long enough to drink them. Â Other than that and the nauseating smell of the popcorn popper, I love the place. Â And Frank's a sweet heart.

Mort's is my standard when I talk about a martini bar. I have a Mort's martini menu in my bar at home and I like to try to make the martinis listed (something like over 100). Some of the martinis are good, such as the Kentucky martini (in my concoction it's equal parts Maker's Mark and Amaretto) and some are gross suck as the pickletini (which incorporates pickle juice into a standard martini).
Also, at Mort's they have free popcorn (one side of the popcorn machine has jalapeno salted popcorn which is extra yummy) to munch on while you watch the band or talk to the ladies. Mort's, in my experience, is also the best place to get a Crazy Mike sighting.
Think of Mort's like a Chipotle with 2 doors, one into the restaurant and the other leads out to the deck. Only at Mort's there's a gated exit/entrance on the deck. If there wasn't a band, my friends and I liked to sit at the table closest to the entrance door (by the popcorn machine) so we could watch all of Mike's journey into, through and out the other door, through the deck and back out the gate. Good times.
The place is small but cozy. Â They have decent specials. Â The bartenders and wait staff are really helpful and nice. Â One gripe I have is that the last time I went in the bartender refused to serve me a martini because he didn't think I'd like it. Â I was pretty drunk too, but he didn't have a problem serving me Jack and Cokes.
