yes, that just happened in LaPorte. The sleepy little burg outside Chicago has a real live burrito place with a KILLER breakfast menu. I make it a point that when I go to LaPorte that I stop here for food.
You will not...You WILL NOT be disappointed in anything you get here especially with the chorizo gravy.
I totally agree with other reviews that stepping inside here feels like discovering a Chicago gem in downtown LaPorte. Â There was even a little Farmer's Market in the parking lot next door as we stopped in for a late breakfast.
Large portions with fresh ingredients, good flavor, reasonable prices. Â Scrambled eggs on my skillet were perfectly cooked. Â The Build-Your-Own-Breakfast-Burrito menu offers loads of possibilities. Â Good coffee, but they stop serving it after breakfast.
Tortilla chips are awesome, so light and crispy I would buy a bag. Â Cinnamon sprinkled churros are filled with a bit of Bavarian cream - yummy treat.
Mucho Mas was the perfect way to begin a Saturday of antiquing!
I absolutely loved the shrimp tacos!! I can't wait to go back. My husband had the nachos. They were awesome and with the portion size we definitely had a hard time finishing all of them (don't worry we did :)). The portion sizes are great. Definitely worth trying if you're in the area!
Review Source:Oh hell yeah! Â Mucho Mas is as good as it gets. Â This place would be awesome if it was in Chicago and here it is in the tiny little town of LaPorte. Â The menu has so many choices you could come here every day and try something different. It's my favorite kind of place b/c there's something for everyone. Â If you have a vegetarian or vegan in your party they will not hate you if you bring them here. Â In fact, they'll think you are the coolest. Â They can make any burrito with tofu. Â For breakfast, they can make any of the scrambles or egg dishes with cage-free eggs. Â You gotta ask for em or they use regular eggs. Â Might be other vegan stuff but I can't remember. Â Anyway, the food here is great. Â You'll love this place.
Review Source:There are a lot of reviews giving praise to Mucho Mas. This is another, but this one is short and sweet.
La Porte is a pretty close minded, meat centric town. Being a vegetarian in La Porte is difficult. Mucho Mas fixes that problem.
Good mexican style food with tofu options. Tofu...in La Porte.
That's all people. Tofu in La Porte. Get in there. Order something with tofu. Smile.
We were in town visiting and my dad insisted we try this place, since my husband is obsessed with mexican food. Â I was just hungry so we ventured to Mucho Mas! Â Wow! Would be a great word to express how good this place is and the variety of options you have. Â
So why 4 stars? Â I'm hard to please, and because they only have 2 high chairs in the whole facility, but say they are a family restaurant is an automatic star withdrawal. Holding a squirmy 2 year old is SO much fun! (NOT!)
We will be back and look forward to trying other menu items!
I MUST be dreaming, because I can't be eating tofu tacos in La Porte. Â This can't possibly be happening for real.
This place has great vegetarian/vegan options, making it my new favorite place to eat when visiting family in La Porte. Â The food is fresh and good, the restaurant is clean, and the staff friendly. Â It's good to note that this is an order at the counter and they bring the food out to you type place, but the staff does come around to make sure everything is good, and they are super helpful and do things like bring you boxes, etc.
I get two tofu tacos that come with beans and rice, and is more than enough food for a meal for me, for less than $6. Â Deal and a half!
Finally, somewhere good to eat in LaPorte! Â Located next the abysmal American Cafe, Mucho Mas provides very nutritious and flavorful food (Mostly organic) at an unbelievable price point. Â Fresh, delicious, and very nicely spiced - the food is a pleasant break from all the Midwest comfort food places around town. Â Staff is very pleasant and attentive - five stars all the way. Â Love the salsa bar, with red, green sauce; pico de gallo; cilantro and onions; jalapenos; the works.
Review Source:Well, the first visit to Mucho was interesting. Â We ordered the nachos and were brought a huge round pizza pan filled with nachos, covered in guac, beans, cheese, etc. Â A meal in itself! Â The nachos (which seem to be seasoned with lime juice) were homemade and awesome! Â We also tried the steak burritos, but was really disappointed in the steak (rather tasteless). Â The second time we went, we ordered the tacos (shrimp, fish, and the chicken tacos). Â Wowser!!! Â They all were soooo delicious!!! Â We ordered them CA style which is very fresh, topped with pico de gallo and a orange colored mayo sauce. Â The chicken had sort of a smokey flavor. Â Delish!! Â The fish was batter-dipped which was really nice. Â Per my boyfriend, the shrimp was out of this world. Â We thoroughly enjoyed this food. Â It felt like we were back in CA with all of the wonderful flavors!! Â Keep up the great work. Â It's hard to find a good restaurant in LaPorte. Â We are from Chicago and are accustomed to awesome Mexican food, therefore I am very thankful to the owners/operators of this restaurant to keep us happily feed while being a hoosier!
Review Source:Finally a restaurant serving up FLAVOR!
Huge, delicious slices of grilled bell peppers, zucchini, onions, yum!
The chicken and steak are fresh and seem to be high quality. Very reasonable prices, great atmosphere and fulfilling flavors and options.
It's truly worth the hype and the prices are super reasonable for the amount of fresh, organ tic food you get. Homemade everything, so it seems!
Cilantro lovers... Run don't walk!
Street parking only, all lots near by are permit only, just FYI
As a Southern California native, once of my biggest frustrations regarding the Midwest, in general, is the lack of authentic, fresh Mexican food. I was beyond thrilled when Mucho Mas opened and have been a loyal and frequent customer ever since. They have hit the nail on the head and it is, unquestionably, the best restaurant in La Porte for casual dining.
The menu selection is large and varied, just like back home in Orange County and the prices are reasonable. The portions are gluttonous, the atmosphere is clean, trendy and hip and the people who work there couldn't be any nicer if they tried. Each time I visit, I am more and more impressed with how they run their business.
Most recently, my boyfriend and I stopped in for a bite to eat before heading to our vet to put down our beloved 12 year old Rottweiler. As you can imagine, we were in somber moods and talking about our dog as if he were already gone. We decided, over our delicious meal, we wanted to feed him one last treat that he would really enjoy. We concluded that nothing better than carne asada from Mucho Mas would work, so we asked for an order when we finished eating. We requested they just make the meat and explained that it was going to be our Tank's last meal before we had to put him to sleep. The employee gave us the meat for free and it was cooked to perfection. As we pulled into the parking lot of the vet's office, with tears in our eyes and the smell of carne asada perfuming the car, we knew Tank was going to be one happy dog. It made us feel better to know that he was going to have something he LOVED as his final meal. As predicted, he went crazy over it, trying to eat even the Styrofoam container it came in.
Harry and I were both extremely touched by the kindness and generosity of that gesture. Mucho Mas is and will always be one of my favorite places to eat in La Porte and they sure are giving them a run for their money back home in California.
Came here with my boyfriend and family just after moving into the downtown area. Was excited to see the tofu options and fresh ingredients on the menu when we walked in, but when our food came out no more than five minutes after ordering, we had to wonder if it was cooked fresh and made to order. My boyfriend's wet steak burrito was bland and the steak was full of gristly bits. Not the quality we expected. My chicken tacos were just okay, and most of the salsas were bland and lacked a punch of freshness and spice I had hoped to taste. Also, the temperature in the building was unbearably hot, even while we sat by the door. I would have given more stars for better food ingredients, better atmosphere and overall higher quality. Maybe if I was drunk, the food would taste better. Unless they were having an off day, in which case I might give the place another try.
Review Source:I was visiting for a weekend away from Chicago. Â My husband and I were looking for a place to stop for dinner and found Mucho Mas! Â The food was awesome, the prices were great and the people working there were super nice. Â I would be willing to make the drive from Chicago just for the nachos. Â Seriously delicious.
Review Source:This place is delicious. I have eaten here twice and have yet to be disappointed. It doesn't get any better when you are looking for California style or Texas style Mexican food. The service is excellent. The prices are excellent, the hours of operation are unusual (they closed at 8:30 pm on a Saturday). There quac. is really good and their portions are fair. I have had their tacos, burritos, and bread-bowls and all of them are terrific.
A+
This place was like an upscale Taco Bell. The chips and guacamole ($4) were excellent and seemed homemade (even the chips). The salsa could've been chunkier. It reminded me more of picante sauce. I got a Mexi torta ($6) which filled me up and was very good, though the Mexican bread just seemed like fancy white bread. My husband got a taco salad ($5.50) which seemed okay, though it costs $1.50 extra to add meat (only steak or chicken choices, no beef) which I thought was ridiculous. My mom got the Baja burrito special which she said was okay ($6) and my daughter got a kid's taco w/ chips, which I thought was the only bargain for $2. Add in drinks and our meal was $31. The food was 4 stars worthy but it was pricey for the portions so I rated it 3 stars.
Review Source:If you're looking for good mexican food, this isn't the place. If you're looking for a somewhat decent american interpretation of mexican food, then this is the place. The wet burrito was bland and the steak in it was a bit fatty and chewy. The speed at which our order for five came out makes me believe that a lot of the food was precooked. There's simply no way you could cook and plate all of that food in about seven minutes. The salsa for the chips was bland as well, with no spiciness to speak of. The staff was very nice and accommodating however. I would not recommend this restaurant.
Review Source:OMG this food makes qdoba and chipotle look like yesterday's news. This is one of the best parts of going home to visit my folks. I insist on ordering their burritos wet. Their homemade tortilla chips melt in your mouth and they serve a handful of them with every meal, warmed, and drizzled with shredded cheese and salsa. Their wet sauce is kind of like an enchilada sauce but a hundred times better. This place has to survive or else I will be very sad. Love it love it and wish they had one in Indianapolis.
Review Source:I agree with others, I was surprised to find such a trendy place here.  The décor is modern, staff is friendly and the food is tasty! I am very happy we found this place. We tried beef fajita and fish taco, both come with rice and beans, size was very generous, organic ingredients, price was reasonable. The atmosphere is of an upscale fast food  kind of place, which I think is good for lunch or a quick bite.
Review Source:I live in Los Angeles and was visiting family in the midwest, complaining like a whiny beotch about the lack of cute/healthy/good restaurants in their area when I found this place (thanks, yelp!). Â It's adorable! It's baja fresh style, where you order up at the counter, but the food is ah-mazing. Not sure if they put esctacy in the chips but it sure felt like it! I had the shrimp and fish tacos, and my everyone in my picky family loved their food. The guys running it were so nice and patient too. Oh - they also have TOFU on their menu. In the middle of nowhere someone has tofu tacos? And their prices are super cheap? Um, I love it.
Review Source:Great Mexican food in La Porte, IN? Â Yes!!
After reading a small article about Mucho Mas! in Shore Magazine we made the 30 minute trek down to LaPorte today for lunch. Â Locate on a busy downtown street in La Porte this place was very easy to get to with lots of convenient street parking.
We walked up to the ordering counter in the back of the restaurant and were warmly greeted by the young man working there. Â The selection was rather large - several styles of taco, enchiladas and burritos. Â All (or most) had the option to have tofu instead of beef or chicken. Â
I ordered their California style fish tacos on corn tortillas. Â They were outstanding. Â Served with cabbage, cheese, lightly fried tilapia, pico de gallo and their special sauce. Â This was a great combination for fish tacos. Â I also had a order of their chips and salsa. Â The chips are great and I believe they are made on site. Â The salsa is at a self serve salsa / condiment bar...great idea.
Cannot wait to go back...We need more good Mexican food in SW Michigan / NW Indiana.
How, in the world, did I find authentic Californian-style-Mexican dinning in the middle-of-nowhere, Indiana?! I don't know, but I drive over an hour one way from Chicago to indulge in the Mucho Nachos, at least once a month. It's that good. It's beyond good, it's a novelty that just won't wear off!
The nachos are (literally) the diameter of a large pizza. They have the most stimulating lemon, taco seasoning on the tofu! It comes with homemade guacamole, sour cream, tomatoes, black/pinto beans, cheese, etc. Everything tastes clean, fresh, and flavorful.
This place itself is cool, artsy, and is succesfully jazzying up an otherwise small town. Vegan and vegetarian friendly. Basically, everything is good. The burritos, the soup, the service, and the ever-running CNN Live.
Hey! Â This is place is TERRIFIC!
New, clean + modern, but hole-in-the-wall type of place (hey, we're talking LaPorte here) in the downtown (uptown?) area of LaPorte. Â Located on busy (bustling could be used too, but more truck traffic than peds) street. Â
EXCELLENT but simple lunch-style Americanized Mexican. Â Tofu and fish tacos, burritos, etc. Â Good salsas, excellent fried chips with good guacamole. Â
This place is definitely worth the drive to LaPorte for a simple but delicious lunch.
The atmosphere is only okay. Â They've done a nice job with what looks like a small budget for using an old LaPorte storefront. Â I wish there was better outdoor seating, or the front wall opened to the sidewalk or something. Â I also HATE that they've got a flat-panel t.v. in there, volume turned way up. Â
But I get over these critiques easily and still maintain it's worth 5!
I would have given them 5 stars, as their food is AWESOME, the place is clean, decor is tasteful...the guys that work there are great! Â However, when you walk in lately there's a thick smog in the place, full of grease. Â They need to work on some ventilation issues because when I get home my husband comments that I smell like I took a bath in fryer oil. Â BUT - that's the ONLY complaint I have about the place. Â Well and they aren't open on Sundays! Â But everyone needs a day off. :)
Review Source:Fantastic restaurant with a variety of delicious options!
Unlike most Mexican restaurants, this place doesn't look like a half-off sale at a party store on the 6th of May. Â Tasteful decor doesn't typically matter to me, but when I am meeting clients, I tend away from closed-down Hardy's restaurants. This is an excellent place to hang out, as well as eat.
Great service, and GREAT fish tacos!
Also, plenty of excellent vegetarian and vegan options available.
