Truly the worst quality Mexican food I've ever had. Brought me my food no cheese on the refrained beans when I asked for some they wanted to charge me 50 cents more first time I was ever served beans without cheese. The plate came I asked why the plate was so hot waitress said from the microwave. The food was bland no spices at all and the chips & salsa is tomato sauce with some onion added. what ever you do don't ask for sliced avocado not there. Want good Mexican food try Chuy's in Winters or Alejandro's in Fairfield.

All i can say it this is the first time in my life that i ordered a combo dinner, for $12, complete with taco, enchilada, beans, rice and chips and was still hungry!  Maybe i am spoiled, being from LA, but a chicken enchilada is usually kind of round and has some meat in it and some cheese on top?  I received a corn tortilla with less meat than a taco, folded over flat, like a taco, and some sauce on it.  To be nice, the chips were great, the salsa was good, the beans were not beans, but some form of watered down substrate.  The taste was good for all the above, but getting the top rated Mexican restaraunt in this town, for seven years ...

I've heard some great and terrible stories so I decided to give it a try on my weekend lunch break. It took a long time for anyone to even notice we were waiting but we finally were seated in the back of the restaurant.

I was craving chicken tortilla soup, which they didn't have so I checked the menu out and decided to go fatty status and have a "paco", which apparently is one of their best items--fried tortillas, covered in sauce and cheese, you get the point. The menu is pretty expensive--didn't really want to drop $20 for a quick lunch but did anyways. The portion was big enough and I could've gone for the "mini paco" for $3 less but sorry I'm not giving up half my portion unless it's half the cost!

I wasn't a huge fan of their salsa, it was super tomato-saucy and lacked the general flavor I'm looking for. The guacamole was $4 for a half order, which was less of a portion than I anticipated it to be AND it was served on a little plate with a bed of lettuce underneath. There wasn't much to it, pretty basic and bland. I added s+p to it to give it a little bit of flavor.

I'm glad that I tried it and maybe would come back if I needed a greasy hangover cure after a night out but I think I will try another spot next time. I get the cover-everything-in-cheese-and-sauce flavor here but not the authentic, tasty Mexican food I really crave.

We always go for the family special on Mondays but the size of the portions has changed to a way smaller size. My family of 5 used to leave full but now left hungry.

I have been eating at Murillo's for the past 25 years, I've celebrated almost every birthday in those 25 years here! I love Murillo's. The service is nearly always very quick and the food is always good and consistent. This is our family's favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. The chips and salsa are SO amazing!

I gave one star for the food and another star because the service was good and the place was clean. I've been hearing about this place so decided after living here for 2 years to check it out. Probably won't go back. The salsa was strange and reminded me of italian sauce and everything else was just meh. I really wanted to like it because I love Mexican food and am always on the lookout but just couldn't do it.

Good prices, but the food wasn't really authentic. Much better options out there.

OK go to Mexican food which I would normally only give 3 stars - We are giving them 4 starts on this review because they have the best top shelf margaritas ever!

So we've been coming here for years and kind d of know what to expect.. Good Margarita's, good service, good food it's consistent we usually get the Jalisco & Fajita burrito and the fajita burrito is pretty good size and the Jalisco Burty is a bit smaller but only $7.59 so still a pretty good deal..

Chips and salsa are usually always hot and tasty..However, if you are expecting typically chunky type salsa this is not what they server here.. it's more of a sauce than a typical salsa.. Also, if you order a 1/2 order of bean and cheese and pour the salsa on top it's super yummy.. I always like to have sour cream too..

The decor leaves a bit to be desired but it's clean..

Normally when we come here it is not busy and service is kind of poor. But tonight the waitress had shown us a lot of attention and the food seemed much better than what we have had here before. So maybe try it out on a busy night

A bit overpriced for what it was. I ordered the 'pick three' combo and was surprised at the lack of quality. The quesadilla wasn't hot, the enchillada was tasty and the burrito was dry.

Our server was very friendly and the chips came fast and frequent! Actually, I think the chips and salsa was my favorite part!

Stay away from the Carne Asada Taco dinner!  $11 for eight tiny tortillas, with a teaspoon of meat on four of them.  That, and a small cup of beans.  That's it.  They did have a great service!  There are plenty of great food around.  I won't be back and won't be recommending this place to anyone!

Thick tasty chips with good salsa.  We have been coming here for years and service has improved greatly.  Our favorite item here is the chili verde, big thick chucks of tasty tender pork in a medium chili sauce. I recommend the Carne burrito which has chunks of chile verde ladled over a chili verde burrito if your really hungry.  For those with an average appetite the Jalsico burritto with chili verde is the ticket.  Prices are average and the other menu items are solid, but the chili verde is king here.

I do not understand all of the bad reviews either :( I have been dining at both the new and old Murillos since I was a kid, so about 25+ years.  Everyone in my family agrees that the chips and salsa are the absolute best!  And now MY children love it as well - they would drink the mild sauce with a straw if they could. I admit that the other items that are getting complaints aren't things I would usually order anyways, but I grew up eating the chicken avocado tostada, cheese enchiladas, mini Paco, and LOTS of chips and salsa!  I have NEVER seen the food come out cold - not even for my wedding rehearsal dinner which consisted of almost 4O people.  Portions are larger at the 'old' restaurant on Merchant but I've always had great food at both locations.

You know what, this is a good Mexican restaurant.  I've been coming here for over 20 years and give 4 out of 5 stars.  There are many Mexican restaurants in Vacaville and this is my favorite for several reasons.  My favorite things are:
    1. Their margarita on the rocks (have yet to find a better one unless you ask the bartender at some other restaurant for a special one)
    2. Their hot sauce (not the mild)
    3. Their rice (best I've ever had)
    4. Their Chili Verde
    5. Their cheese quesadilla (ask for it crispy)
    Etc, etc..

The rest of the menu is good, too.  Let's face it, when it comes to judging food, it's all about your personal preference.  I happen to think Murillos's is better than any other Mexican restaurant in Vacaville.

When I lived in Vacaville I never went here!  The reason?  It seemed too "commercial" and I like an old fashioned taquiera!  Now its a great place to meet friends when I come to visit and its easy to find, the margaritas are great ( try the peach!) and yes...Paco's special!  Yum!
The ground beef tacos are wonderful and so are the tostadas!  I try to order different things each time--but I am stuck on Paco!
    Yes, I'm a fan!

Yuck.  Paid 11 bucks for the Carne Asada taco dinner.  It had four tiny tacos (imagine two small corn tortillas with a spoonful of meat) and a little bowl of beans.  No onions and cilantro on the tacos.  No salsa with the dish.  I should have posted a picture just so you know I'm not crazy or a complainer.  Could have gotten twice as good a meal for half the price at just about any taco truck.

The place was full though, so it's obvious that Vacaville doesn't know squat about Mexican food.

Disclaimer: (I'm from Texas) Ok lets review the food. First off salsa and chips are decent. Salsa not too spicy but has a nice heat. What ever that other tomato concoction is, it was delicious. Almost like a tomato soup.
Now we (my family and I) have been looking for a good Mexican restaurant....ok close to Tex-Mex as possible. The enchiladas were superb and the beans and rice were excellent. Beans were a decent consistency and the rice wasn't too dry or watery.
Now to the Paco....simply a guilty pleasure! Now I don't understand why the menu had a chili pepper next to the name, maybe to signify a level of spicy.....but I've had the four horsemen burger down in San Antonio....so yeah the Paco didn't have any kick to it. But as I said I wasn't sure what they were implying. Plus I was to busy inhaling my food.

I give this place 4 stars because I love the salsa. Hands down the best warm salsa I have ever tasted. I've been going here for years. Now that I don't live in the area, the day trip is worth a great lunch and a trip to the outlets.

I had two cheese enchiladas today for lunch. They were delicious and so were the rice and beans. I could've ate the rice and beans all day, they were gooood.

I also went through 3 hot sauce cups like it was water... spicy water. I love their hot sauce! Their normal sauce/salsa was not my bag baby. It was hot (in temperature) and reminded me of a thick tomato soup. It didn't do anything for me, but their hot stuff rocked.

Since there aren't half stars, I give this place 4 stars! Free upgrade from 3.5, you're welcome.

Being old white people (but 1 being Latina) I was very disappointed with this place. The ambiance was not mexican but more like a diner.  I thing the bar was crowded and only because it was happy hour.  We went on Tuesday which was themed "Family Night" and I gather it was a good deal for the area because there were plenty of families.
I should know that when the Salsa and chips are bad that the rest of the food would be worse. Sorry to say, it was.  Very bland and not taste.  It seemed as though the restaruant was cooking for a nursing home.  No spice or ethnicity to the food.
They could use a visit from Restuarant Impossible to help them out.

    Yum

Really good mexy food and wonderful service. I love their salsa and chips, they have a regular salsa and a marinara sauce for dipping.

The place is large so you can find a spot away from children which is a plus in my book.

Combos are reasonable at around $15.

I always compare my mexican food to grandmas cooking, so I guess it can't be fair to Murillo's. I got the chimichanga with beef, it was basic but hit the spot.

I will have to come when they have their ceviche or pozole special. Nothing to write home about, but it make the tummy happy.

my boyfrined and i were shopping at the outlets and decided on Mexican food. Unfortunatly my phone navigation directed me to the closest mexican restaurant , which was Murillos. Bad idea.

We almost immediatly said to eachother, "this is not going to be a good dining experience"

The chips tasted like they were Tostitos out of a bag and warmed up , and the salsa tasted like watered down tomato juice.

We hoped the meals would make up for it, but it got worse.

We ordered the 4 mini tacos ($11 for 4 small corn tortillas and a spoonful of meat, not to mention NO CHEESE, NO CILANTRO, SALSA, NOTHING?!!)
they couldnt have costed more than a few bucks to even make, $11 was pretty outragous. I asked the server if they came with anything besides the tortilla and meat, and she looked at me as if i had 2 heads.

Then our meals came out, he got the super burrito which was nothing more than a sloppily wrapped tortilla and some dry rice. Dont burritos usually have sauce, and maybe even a little melted cheese on the top??
Anyways, i ordered the flautas, which also tasted like they were frozen from a box, and not to mention the "refried" beans, which were gross and tasted like they were sitting for a while and then microwaved.

We left very unsatisfied needless to say.

I don't know where to begin... So, in no particular order:

Decor and ambiance are pretty much non-existent... It's like they had heard of a Mexican restaurant, but had never actually seen one when they put this place together.

Flavor and spice were also pretty much non-existent... You'll get waaay more flavor in a Swanson's TV dinner or at a Taco Bell.

I ordered a "green sauce" on my meal, but got something better described as "Extra Mild Cumin Gravy"... And my burrito was floating in 1/2 inch of it. Note to kitchen: more is not always better.

Some of the servers have the hospitality of a split rail fence.

The cloth they wiped our tabletop with looked filthy (and was) and left icky streaks on the table.

Salsa here = red tomato water. (This, I just can't figure out. Maybe it was the bottom of the bowl?)

    Everything is bland, bland, bland...

This place must be skating along on an obsolete local reputation that waned years ago... I just don't understand how it has "regulars" that keep coming back.

    I won't go again!  :-b

I will start with saying that I know at least 30 people that love this place and that is the reason I stopped by to give it a try. So with the caveat that maybe they just had a really off day I begin.

The place looks kind of run down on the inside. We waited several minutes to be acknowledged that we were waiting for a table. Once seated they served chips and salsa that were mediocre at best. We both order the 3 entree dinner so we could try a little bit of everything and get a feel for what the food tastes like. I tried a taco, enchilada, and quesadilla. The cheese quesadilla was very bland and tasted like one I would make at home, just horrible. The enchilda/beans/rice seriously tasted like a microwave meal, a banquet to be exact. I wouldn't be surprised to find microwave meal boxes in the trash in the kitchen. The taco was just OK and didn't have any real flavor to it. To sum it up, the food was all just very BLAND.

A trip to the bathrooms was something to put if over the top. As you walk back to them you also pass the kitchen. The entire area smelled like a backed up sewer and really did not make you think the food was appetizing. Lucky or unlucky to realize this after we had eaten?

I have shared this experience with several friends and they seem to think I'm crazy but maybe this place has put a spell on all of them....who knows.

I will not be back, that I can assure you.

Ok went to the bigger one over on E. monte vista....God the service wasnt very good....

I guess servers arent allowed to seat people becuase the host was in the bathroom and i looked at 3 servers look directly at me then keep walking not even saying hello..... It wasnt busy i mean i could understand if it was busy but it was an hour before closing time there was only about 4 tables in the place all togeather ...

So ya they just stood there and let us wait tell the host got out the bathroom....lol ive been waiting tables for over 10 years and id atleast say hey the host will be right with you or somting geezz....

    Not impressed

I remember going here a long time ago. The food was good and everyone really enjoyed it. But after going here recently, it makes me wonder what the heck I was thinking. It doesn't even seem like it's the same restaurant anymore (if it ever was to begin with).

We were started off with the usual chips and salsa that most mexican restaurants serve. That is.....if you could call it 'salsa'. I probably could whip up a better one at home, which says alot. It was the consistency of tomato soup, but even tomato soup has more flavor than this stuff. I am not easily disgusted by food and I'll eat or try pretty much anything. Even if something sucks, I'll eat it if I'm hungry.

I couldn't will myself to get past the first few bites. It was THAT bad.

I spent the rest of the time eating the chips (salsa-less). They were edible at least.

I ordered something that included the chili relleno. Big mistake. When I got my order, the moment my fork touched the spongy, jiggly mass, I knew that I was in trouble. My food tasted like it had been pre-made and reheated for me. Something tells me the 'sauce' (whatever it was) might have been sitting atop this jiggly mass, for quite some time because it all seemed to squirt back out (into the watery red mess already surrounding it) when I cut into it. Pretty horrific. There was no taste either. It may as well have been tofu relleno and I wouldn't have noticed a difference. The enchilada was dry and hard. Maybe it was frozen beforehand, who knows. At that point, I didn't even care anymore. All I wanted was to get my complimentary mints (which hopefully didn't suck too, so that I could wash the taste of epic failure from my mouth) and get the heck out of there.

    Never coming back here.

This is my favorite restaurant hands down because while they have a menu with lots of variety, they deliver on the basics flawlessly.

To start with, the chips and salsa are AMAZING.  The chips are served hot, right out of the fryer.  The mild salsa is served warm (its consistency - not taste - is between tabasco sauce and ketchup) and their hot sauce is served cold (it's consistency is more chunky/traditional).  The beans and rice are just right, they are flavorful without being overly tangy or at all spicy.  They grill their burritos before serving them, which adds a nice touch.

The service is always really fast, although some Friday/Saturday nights there is a short wait to be seated, but it is generally less than 10-15 minutes.  The waiters/waitresses are pleasant and on top of things.

I ate here for the first time last night. The atmosphere in the restaurant is a little strange. It looked like the dining room in a hospital cafeteria except with carpet. I was pretty confused, it just didn't fit.
As for the food, chips and salsa were ok, the cold salsa (the more spicy one) was pretty yummy, I kept the whole thing to myself and bf got the warm, less spicy one. The rice was pretty dry and that was disappointing since usually that's my favorite at Mexican restaurants. However, I had the chicken chimichanga and it was soooooooo good. Seriously, I was really impressed. The shredded chicken inside tasted amazing, the cheese was good, and the outside was perfectly cooked. The thing was so giant size that I really wanted to eat more of it but I couldn't. I will be back for another one, but this time I will just order it a la carte. 3 stars for the food.

1 extra star for our waitress, she was absolutely a doll.

Oh PS I almost forgot to tell you all how F-ing strong my margarita was. It was wonderful ;)

Had a very enjoyable Mother's Day lunch here today with one of my daughters who lives in Sacramento...we met half way :-)

Murillo's has always been a pretty authentic mexican restaurant...been going here for over 20 years since I use to live nearby in Suisun City.  I had the avocado tostada and my daughter had the super quesedilla.  Both were very good.

Also, the Mariachi trio went from table to table to seranade the moms.  Each mom also got a carnation upon being seated.  No wait and fast service.  Prices are reasonable as well.

went here today to treat my mom for mother's day.  my mom ran into the owner, Francis, who sat with us while we waited for our food.  She was SOOO nice.  my mom and her go way back - they used to work together a long time ago.

the chips were fresh and tasty and the salsa was ok.  they give you a cold spicy one and a warm mild one.  They were both on the thin side...  i prefer a chunky salsa.

anyway all was well, or so we thought.  while we were still waiting the server had dropped off the check but before i looked at it, she took it back because of some error.  We had also asked for 2 boxes to go but she only came back with one because she was too busy tending to a larger party and was not paying attention to us.  I guess she could not fit anymore information into that small brain of hers.

when i got it back, there was still one error.  she charged me for a super burrito, when I got a super quesadilla without any meat.  when i informed our server, Marika.  She impolitely said,  "yours is more expensive" and went to the back before I could respond.  I knew exactly how much my order was.  She came back shortly and said "it's the same price."  I corrected her and said my order was 8.95, one dollar less than the super burrito.  Instead of correcting the check, she gave me a dollar in cash and walked away.  Meanwhile I had the check with the tax still not adusted.

Our server didn't promptly return to get the check, and frankly I was upset about her rudeness with the whole situation.  I walked to the front to pay and asked the host to adjust the tax but she said only the server could do that.  the server, Marika comes to the front and RUDELY said "you want like 6 cents for the tax?"  Her attitude communicated that she thought it was stupid for me to ask!   It was just the principal of the matter.  But for her to question my request, showed her lack of understanding what it means to be a server.

I was a paying customer and she obviously could not do a simple task to make the check correct without throwing a HISSY FIT like a spoiled brat.  She went away to correct my check and as she walked away, I asked for the manager.  Marika said again with her FAT ASS ATTITUDE, "go ahead, get the manager for her."  I settled my bill with a zero tip and patiently waited about 10 minutes to speak the manager, Mary.  Francis had apparently left.

I straight up told Mary that I did not want anything but to express my discontent with their employee.  She said she would talk to her and was apologizing for our experience.  Other than MARIKA, the experience was ok.  The owner is a good person but I can't say the same for our server.  She needs an attitude adjustment or needs to get a job where customer service is not important.

I would go back to Murillo's but I would go to the one accross town as long as Miss Attitude was not there.

This place overall is a decent experience, nothing that I would highly recommend.  The staff is friendly and very courteous.  The food on the other hand is hit or miss.

I was told by a lot of people that this is their favorite Mexican restaurant.  to me it was not bad, but nothing to write home about either.  Today I had the the carne asada fajita's.  The carne asada was outstanding, it was very flavorful and marinated perfectly.  The tortillas were late and did not taste that great.   I usually order the Paco's special, which is like a double decker tostada.  It is really good, but the texture is kinda watery.  At times I feel it is not as flavorful as it should be.

Overall, my experience at Murillo's is generally good.  I have eaten there four times and it is a place that would consider serviceable, but not a front of the rotation ace.

My husband loves mexican food, and the giant "Best of Vacaville" banner tricked us into thinking this was going to be great. Unfortunately, the food could be a lot better.

The salsa was so watery it didn't stay on the chips (which are not refilled for free as is the case in most mexican eateries). There were no chunks of veggies in it at all, I also wondered if it was just some ketchup with chili powder in it.

My husband ordered a margarita that showed up looking and tasting like a glass of milk with some cheap tequila in it. His burrito turned out OK, but my quesadilla was so greasy that when I took a bite, oil squirted out all over my face and down my arms. Ugh! Everything tasted so bland and tasteless.

The place really needs to update its decor a bit as well, I felt like I was sitting on an old lady's patio. The fake flowers made me feel like I was supposed to be in an italian restaurant, not a mexican one.

The service was OK, we got our food in a reasonable amount of time.
We want to give it another chance, but really, one wonders how this place got voted Best of Vacaville over some of the other gems in this town.

    Three words:

    AVOCADO    CHICKEN   TOSTADA

We can throw "extra sauce" in there for good measure - glorified ketchup indeed! Just as this 4 carat marquis is glorified coal.
I've been coming here since I was seven years old.  I rode horses with the owners daughter for a few short years back then, before cars, and thus formulated a bond with the place.  All the same, twenty-wieurowe years later, I still love the chicken avocado tostada.  The service is always friendly.
I'll admit, its not the most innovative mexican cuisine in the bay area, but they've got a way of making some familiar flavors work in the perfect combination.

I LOVE Murillos - the best enchilada saucy "salsa" and steaming HOT fresh fried chips.  Some great options are the avocado tostada and shrimp tacos (fairly fresh and healthy), chimichanga, and the reason God invented Murillo's - PACO'S SPECIAL.  It's heaven and a heart-attack all on one plate.

I like the agave margaritas too!

There are two locations - I like the old downtown location.

You don't eat at places like Murillos for the ambiance or atmosphere - you eat here for the authentic, greasy fork, heavy on the cheese and deep-fried goodness of Mexican food.

LOL.  I'll give it a 3 for the sake of nostalgia.  What you read in the previous reviews is so true...people who live in Vacaville love this place.  I suggested dinner at another Mex restaurant in Vacaville with some friends I grew up with...and I swear they were offended that we didn't eat at Murillo's.

The chips are good.  Nothing else stands out...except that if you are local, you can't walk into this place and not see someone you know.

I'm still amazed at how many people eat here for lunch. There are so many Mexican restaurants that are a lot better to visit.

Anyway, I've eaten the chicken super burrito and their lunch specials. The lunch special is around $7, and it's a different option per day. The tacos were small and not tasty. The super burrito didn't have a lot of meat in it. They put way too much cheese in everything. The house beans are blah.

The only good part is free chips and salsa. Otherwise, I would spend your money at Baldo's or Favela's.

When I moved to Vacaville, everybody told me that Murillo's was the best Mexican restaurant ever. I tried it several times, and each time it just stuck out to me as incredibly mediocre. It wasn't horrible, but it would be stretch to call it good.

The biggest rip-off is that they will charge you for a second basket of chips! The majority of places refill these for free. And for the prices Murillo's charges, you would think they could afford that.
