This is a fairly decent way to spend a Sunday evening.
You can use any mode of transportation to get there, but if you drive, leave early.
Wine, food, dogs, obnoxious children, seniors holding hands, couples in fights, mullets, dancing gypsies, guys scoping out the place, girls way overdressed, hoping to get scoped out by the said guys scoping out the place, cute babies in headphones playing blow up guitars, Â fake boobs and botox, hair plugs and spray tans, and a few couples that remind you of the Culps from Saturday Night Live. Â FANTASTIC people watching.
My only beef: Â the rule about no blankets or towels. Â It ruins the grass. Â I guess chairs, feet, picnic baskets, peeing dogs, wine bottles spilled out all over the place, and bikes all over does nothing to the grass. Â All I have to say, is that coming from the midwest, that crap is so California.

parking? well its icky for cars, bikes, and motorcycles but there are several places in the area you can park and easily walk to the venue.
Every city/municipality tends to have a  music in the park but los gatos is by far my favorite so far (even over my hometowns!) One it's on a sunday and not some random weekeday which is awesome. It starts and ends early enough to have lunch and dinner before and after and enjoy dt los gatos. The music selsection varies and isn't filled with random heavy metal and terribad bands like other areas.  There is plenty of shade and it is jsut overall a great little music in the park series. I am really glad I discovered it this year! Plus one  bonus too no homeless people panhandling and bugging you and the kids/teens tend to be better behaved with actual adult supervision!
Good times in the park with friends, on a sunny day, with classic Beatles music onstage.
Traffic is sick and parking can be quite the challenge, unless you do one of the following:
1- Ride your bicycle to the venue.
2- Ride your hog to the venue.
3- Drive your car to the venue and get there VERY early.
If you stake a claim to a piece of real estate, you'd better stick around to defend it, else your space will quickly shrink in size, as this place gets crowded!!!
Pets allowed. Â Booze allowed. Â Bad hair allowed. Â Botox allowed. Â Fake boobs allowed and plenty of them to be seen.
Good times indeed.
No blankets allowed... supposedly it ruins the grass. Â Chairs only... Â
Aside from that, this is the best place to hang out, listen to some random cover band, sip some wine and play count the cougars. Â
They sell wine at the event but feel free to bring your own and picnic. Â Pet friendly too.
I have been to the San Jose music in the park, but I much prefer this one. It is smaller and you are allowed to bring in your own food AND beverages (yes wine and beer allowed!). The only downside is no towels/blankets. They don't want to ruin the grass, so you have to bring chairs. Luckily we brought them anyway, but there was someone coming around to tell people to put their blankets away..big bummer for them! The bands that play are just cover bands mostly, and I was lucky enough to make it to the MJ tribute band...and WOW they were amazing! They were so animated and fun to watch. The 4 guys singing were in white and purple suits...quite classy.
I will definitely be blocking out my sunday nights from 4-7 from now on! (gotta get there early to get a spot, but show is from 5-7).
Partial small town "American bandstand" and partial parade of silicon implants on well-tanned Valley cougars on the prowl, the Los Gatos Music in the Park ....is a great way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon. Â This year's focus is on tribute bands that impersonate the Beatles, Johnny Cash, Fleetwood Mac, etc. Â The bands are quite good. Â However, be warned like the competition to purchase homes in the area, the competition to save "lawn space" at the Civic Center lawn is just as competitive...approaching on the ridiculous. You don't need a real estate agent thankfully.
I showed up in downtown LG at 3:30 to find the lawn already "marked" by attendees who left lawn chairs and blankets as early at 9:00am...for a concert that starts at 5:00pm. Â Don't Los Gatons have better things to do on Sunday morning...like go for a run at Lexington ? Â Geeze people. Â I've heard through the local wine grapevine that the city is supposed to put a stop to this and hopefully get everyone to lighten up a bit.
The big tip is to realize the music is played by a band and can be heard anywhere in the general vicinity. Â The band is not putting on a floor show or magic act...so one does not really need an unobstructed view of the stage. Â I'd recommend getting into LG at 3:30-4:00pm when it's still easy to find parking...go get an ice coffee and the Sunday paper....find a piece of grass in between the marked real estate and read the paper until the concert begins at 5:00pm. Â You'll enjoy the music...it's really good. You may want to get out of there half way through the second set to avoid the "rush" of lawn chairs to get out of there at 7:00pm.
