One the fence here; quaint place, but it is kind of outdated; it could use some updating. We came to see the Bridge and attractions, but at night there were 0 channels appropriate for my children. I understand you don't go there to watch tv, but at night or early morning it would be nice.
The first night of our stay, there was a wedding. No problem, except out room was right over the reception/ banquet room so we couldn't sleep for a while. I called to switch rooms, but they were booked solid. Also, the bathtub was clogged, and toilet paper not replaced when the room was cleaned, so I had to get it myself.
The big deal breaker though was the coffee...no free coffee in the lobby, and the resturaunt as well as gift shop across the street sold $2 cup that were only about 8 ounces, and were plain horrible. I am pretty sure it was either hazelnut flavored, or the creamer was (but neither was labeled) and that is not good for people with tree nut allergies. When we asked the lady working the counter she said "I don't know, I don't drink coffee".
We tried several pizza places for delivery, no luck so we had to drive to Lexington for dinner...I couldn't justify a $20 per person buffet.
If you do go, go just past the hotel to the gas station for coffee.
Very Disappointed!!
Unfriendly staff. The woman did not know how to do a AAA discount on the computer; Â claimed what I got was the discount which isn't. Â Good thing that I check their website for the price.
I stayed only 1 night and couldn't get out of there fast enough the next day!
The room is old. Old shower.
The Wing chair have a huge NASTY black stain on it.
There were cookie crumbs on the floor and old tootsie rolls stuck on the carpet.
On check out I told the women in charge about the issues;
No apologies from her.
Not the way to do business lady.
Would not recommend this place.
This place cost me more than the Nice Red Roof Inn I stayed at the
night before this place.
Romantic Accommodations!
If you are looking for a place to stay with an active nightlife then don't stop here. Â If you are looking for a romantic place to stay surrounded by nature then this is the perfect place. Â We were traveling down the Blue Ridge Parkway and needed to stop for the night. Â My husband found this place. Â We purchased the package with an all attraction ticket and free breakfast. Â We stayed longer the second day than we originally planned so we could enjoy all of the attractions.
The room was very nice and clean. Â We had a king sized bed with a balcony with a great view overlooking the mountains. Â They provide a hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, soap, and lotion. Â The TV didn't have as many channels available as other hotels but who has time to watch TV in these surroundings.
The dining room opened at 5:30pm with the most amazing buffet. Â The food was fantastic. Â The soup was tomato bisque and it was the best I've ever had. Â The meat selections were pineapple chicken, roast beef, and beef. Â I tried a little of all three and they were all so tender they just melted in your mouth. Â The carrots, green beans, and scalloped potatoes were great also. Â The finishing touch was chocolate cake. Â The breakfast buffet the next morning was just as fantastic as the dinner buffet. Â Breakfast items included scrambled eggs with or without cheese, potatoes, sausage links, bacon, gravy, biscuits, pancakes, cereal, and fruit.
We stopped in the tavern for a drink after the light show at the Natural Bridge and before we turned in for the evening. Â They have a very nice selection of their own wine. Â I had a very good glass of their Cabernet.
Everyone from the front desk clerk who checked us in to the waiters and waitresses in the dining room to the bartender at the tavern were very friendly. Â We had the most relaxing and enjoyable stay.
