Once again, I find myself wishing for the half star option, as 3 isn't enough, four are too many. Fish fry was pretty good. I had the breaded cod, while beer battered and baked were also available. I went with the potato pancakes for a side. Flavor was good, but they were pretty chewy. Cole slaw was very fresh, and I'm not sure what the roll was supposed to be. Looked like marbled rye, had a faint maple taste to it. Whatever it was trying to be, I liked it. I would like to try their burgers, even though it appears a couple of reviewers weren't happy.
I'm no prude by any stretch of the imagination, but maybe management would like to restrict smoking to the (north?) deck? As we left through the front door, we had to walk through a bunch of smokers who like using the good ol' eff word. LOTS. Also, as a result, the front hall smells like they ignore the smoking ban. Those things don't bother me too much, but if someone had kids, I Â think they'd have an issue with it.
I went to the ale house for a co-worker's birthday. Â They had a section reserved, which also apparently included our own wait staff.
The space itself is huge, with a lot of TV's and projectors etc. If you are going to watch a sporting event here, not a bad choice. Â The service was a bit on the slow side and the waitress had very little knowledge of what are typically common drinks and cocktails.
The food was ok at best, nothing seemed home made or fresh. Very much a "drop in the deep fryer" kind of joint. Â They did have double jack and cokes for $4.50 when I was there, that rocked.
There is a bowling alley attached which is cool, if you are into that sort of thing of course.
So, I went with a friend to this "diversity team building" something or other for her job, and we  had a really good time.  Good pizza, the waitress was very attentive with the drinks for everyone, and I thought this was the nicest bowling alley I have ever been in. The floors were waxed and the bowling balls just glide down the lanes like water. Â
Really nice place.
Helped a friend celebrate her 30th birthday here last night. It was my first visit to the ale house portion. I have bowled here once before, and they have good prices for bowling, by the way. Anyway, Saturday night is karaoke night. I'm not a fan, but I was with some fun people, so I put up with it. One guy was actually worthy of the early rounds of American Idol. He nailed the three songs he sang. The beer list here is decent and they seem to always have great drink specials. I will likely visit again.
Review Source:Went here last week for a work outing. There were probably 100 people bowling from 3-5pm on a Wednesday. The people working there were very nice especially considering we were given vouchers for free beer so I doubt people were tipping very well.
We had a bunch of pizzas and was entirely expecting crappy, bowling alley pizza, but it was actually really good! It's not often that I drive to New Berlin for bowling, but I wouldn't hesitate to go back if I was in the area.
Like Scott L, dined for a late Saturday lunch in August, but it was quiet there. Â Very happily surprised! Â Excellent service and high quality bar, pub food! Â The place is open and clean and a big change from the former Kuglitsch's! (sp?)
We will definitely be back! Â Love the thin and crisp homemade potato chips!
Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for a late lunch after spending some time at the Zoo. There were some volleyball games going on but the bar area was pretty empty.
Many TVs had CNN to many sport events playing. Closed caption wasn't on which made it a little hard to follow at times.
Seated in a very large, clean booth. There are a variety of seating options from tables to booths to high-top tables to large bench tables, good for groups. Background music was popular 80's which I can admit I heard when the songs were released.
Full stocked bar with many beer choices on tap, reasonably priced. There are drink specials often and our waiter didn't hesitate to tell us what was available.
Got the Sampler Appetizer platter ($13). Very full plate with a great selection of food. Good for 2-4 people, or 1 if they want to make it their meal. The fried pickles were very tasty!
I had a cheesesteak, and coming from Philly, it was one of the better ones in the area. Just ask for them to go light on the peppers and onions. Very good roll, very fresh, which is important. Get extra cheese too.
Wasn't much of a crowd at the time so our service was prompt. Blake was an excellent waiter, friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, good conversation without bugging us. I can recommend him.
Overall, very happy with this place, if it weren't so far I'd go back often.
The New Berlin Ale House is a great spot for a few matches of sand volleyball in the summer, bowling in the winter, and good beer specials. Â I had my first meal here this weekend, and can safely say it's not the food that will be bringing me back. Â
I arrived with a group of 5 on a Friday night around 7. Â The place was packed, but they found a table for us quickly. Â There was a special for $2.50 Leinenkugel's drafts. Â They had only Honeyweiss and Summer Shandy on tap, but as I'm a big fan of both this was a great start to the evening. Â Unfortunately our waitress seemed quite frazzled, and my second beer took about 10 minutes from order to delivery.
For dinner I ordered the New Orleans Chicken Wrap with fries, which was where the experience really went downhill. Â The wrap was... bland... Â the chicken had a slight cajun seasoning, and the wrap had a citrus vinaigrette which would have been yummy but was just not enough to counter the blandness of the rest of the wrap. Â The fries were probably the bright spot, but certainly nothing to write home about. Â One dinner-mate ordered the bottomless fried pollack and fries - the evening's special. Â The fried goodness looked tasty but there was almost NO actual fish to be found. Â The meals with slightly better results were the fried cod and the Andouille Sausage sandwich. Â
I'll definitely be back as this place is close to home, has a good atmosphere, and great drink specials, but next time I might skip dinner and stick to drinks!
