I don't frequent pool joints, but this place was ok in my book. Went on a Saturday night and it was packed but not overflowed. Didn't have to wait for a table. The spacing of tables is good, credit to the place is pretty big. Food is surprising good and cheap. This is definitely a good option if your looking for a place to kill a few hours on a budget. You could literally shoot some pool, have some finger food and drinks for all of 20 bucks, not bad. Guess its not surprising given its across the street from FIU that they keep the prices low. Now to the important stuff. Place was a sausage fest! No single chicks. The girls that were there were with their dudes and most were just there to watch. Maybe a good place to start a bro's night but bad place to end it.
Review Source:New Wave is plan B when A fails.
I love playing pool and have been at it for years. Just like this place, it's been operating since 1989.
Great place to hang out with friends and shoot pool. The bar is huge and the food is not bad at all. They have plenty of tables which is great. There is always a table available even when it's packed.
The down points on this pool hall is the smoke. Their ventilation system is weak and it does cloud up at times. I don't smoke and don't mind smokers but when it becomes heavy, I do have an issue. The majority of the tables are old but well kept. Rarely have I landed a beat up unleveled table. Their prices are not the best neither is the happy hour. This is the main reason New Wave is not my first choice.
I always have an enjoyable time when I come to New Wave, it's probably one of my favorite dives for a game of pool.
When I'm close to campus (FIU) I definitely prefer to go here rather than Sharp Shooters. Sadly, S.S. is extremely closer to home in comparison.
Past reviews I've read here say that you'll come out smelling like an ashtray but I honestly disagree. It's no perfume shoppe but I don't think it differs from any regular bar and its almost a daisy field compared to Sharp Shooters.
Things I really enjoy about this place:
- dude at the front desk is ALWAYS very nice, polite & helpful.
- it's BIG. lots of space. almost guaranteed to get a table anytime.
- oooodles of Billiards tables and even 6 or so European Billiards.
- GOOD bar food. Pretty extensive menu as well.
- you practically never have to leave your table. Waitresses will tend to you and most always come right away.
- FULL BAR !
- there's always specials. whether its on drinks, pool or whatever!

Mon - Weds its half priced pool. Ends up being practically $6 an hour for pool. That's ridiculously cheap!
Minor dislikes:
- bathroom is small, tiny and always leaky.
- sometimes it takes a while for the waitress to get back to you.
- charges to play by the hour, rather than per person. Which can be a great thing if you're with friends, but I see how it can be annoying if you're trying to be serious & play by yourself.
- random eclectic music. (Personal issue lol) country to rachet hood to merengue. distracts my playing! hah.
I give this place a 3.75 stars, but imma just round it up to 4. :) Overall, definitely recommend someone in the South Miami area to play Billiards here!
I love billiards joints. Let me tell you why I particularly like this one.
You come in, you immediately get a table regardless of what night it is.
The servers come right to you and make sure you get food/drink that you want. You don't even have to approach the bar. They are also extremely friendly. I have never been disappointed.
Great music and selection of television playing while you are hanging out.
Reasonable prices.
Nice materials. Everything is in good shape. They take care of their things and don't give you beat up sticks or anything.
The crowd. Always a nice group of people there; very chill.
My friends and I are here weekly for pool league matches. There is plenty of seating, a lot of drink options, and pretty good bar food. The layer of smoke that is mentioned in other reviews is barely noticeable in my opinion, especially compared to other pool halls we go to. If you have ever been to Sharp Shooters, this place will seem virtually smoke-free in comparison! Anyway, we always have a good time and the employees are all very nice and courteous. They even have tables for 3 cushion billiards!
Review Source:I went there the other night to practice by myself. Â What a mistake! Â They charge $10.50 per hour, and offer no single user rates!! Â This means it becomes way too expensive to practice there by yourself...you must always bring someone with you to split the cost. Â What a terrible way to run a business. Â There is absolutely no reason why they shouldn't offer a single user rate for those pool players who are serious enough to want to go in and practice by themselves. Â What a shame.
Review Source:If you don't mind the cloud of cigarette smoke this is an ok pool hall, decent rates, tables are not terrible etc... but if you come here with a group and expect to order drinks be prepared to wait...
We ordered 8 shots and it took them almost 20 minutes(!) to bring them out to us... not sure if it was the waitress, the bar or a combination of the two but the waits between ordering shots/pitchers and getting them was completely insane
A South Miami-FIU favorite!!!
New Wave Billiards was opened about  20 years ago when I was just a punk in middle school. One remembers the hustle and bustle every Friday and Saturday as the over 30 pool tables were packed to the gills.
New renovations that were made recently keep this old favorite up with the times. Full bar, good bar food, and a few huge plasma T.V.'s keep this place as one of my favs.
This place gets 5 stars in my book because you get the three b's!!! Bueno, bonito, and barrato!! Always a great time especially when you get the bill.
This place is the best bang for your buck pool hall you will probably find in Miami. Like the other reviewers mentioned the pitchers of draft beer run you about $8 dollars and the food taste great considering its a pool hall.
The Pros: Pool Tables are well maintained, alot of cue sticks to choose from so you will always find the right stick for you, great beer, great lighting, fast service.
The Cons: Its a bit smokey when it gets crowded, The jukebox is the only source of music(if no one pays for the music there is no music on) this seldom happens though, The bathrooms could be better.
The bar food here is much better than the bar food at the Fish Shack on SW 8th St. west of the Turnpike. Even the beer in the pitcher tastes better.
This pool hall is big and popular with FIU college students in the area. It is also known for low prices.
The atmosphere is smokey though, but if that doesn't bother you, you can have a great time playing pool at one of the 30 pool tables or at one of the 6 heated billiard tables.
