I was lucky to find this place when I noticed the sign on the side of the road. After climbing a steep driveway the parking lot reveals a quaint, pretty location with a sizable outside porch for the warmer months. After having our first meal there, and being impressed by the great cocktails and impressive vegan and vegetarian offerings, I can say this is now my favorite restaurant bar in the area.
George is always welcoming at the bar and my wife and I love to stop in for a drink (try the namesake Northern Spy cocktail - it's amazing) and have some of the scrumptious sesame tofu wings. For something more substantial, the pad thai and the meatless meatloaf are delicious. Portions are very generous.
You can sit at the cozy bar or at the tables that surround it; if the weather is nice, the screened-in patio is lovely.
Service is terrific, the prices are decent, the decor is very nice but casual, and the food and drinks are excellent.
I was skeptical when I came here with a friend and she insisted we order TOFU wings. Yes, buffalo tofu wings. I took a chance, and was pleasantly surprised with how delicious they were! It's definitely something you won't find anywhere else. They are crispy on the outside and covered in a great buffalo sauce. I love that they are served with blue cheese and celery. The menu is diverse with creative choices and a variety of items that changes with the season.
As for service, the waitstaff is super-friendly, funny, and know their regulars. George, the owner, is charming and greets everyone like their family. The decor is sleek, clean, and seating expands outdoors to the spacious porch during the summer.
If you're looking for a fun, relaxed atmosphere, this is the place!
Went here for a birthday dinner and had an okay experience, nothing to write home about. Service was slow, took about 15 minutes just to get drinks (which were over priced). The tofu wings were great, will definitely go back for those. The entrees lacked freshness, the pad-thai tasted like it came out of a box. I had an apple and cheese panini which wasn't good. My dad had a pork dinner (I think it was $26) which he said he wasn't impressed with. The atmosphere was very nice, both the porch and the bar are very cozy. Will go back for a beer and tofu wings at the bar but not again for dinner.
Review Source:The inside of this place is amazing and the food is good too! The sesame tofu wings (they also have buffalo tofu wings) were delightful. Â The portion was huge (entree size) for a very reasonable price of $7 was probably the highlight of the meal (that dish almost warranted a 4 star rating for the restaurant). Â The duck that I had was cooked perfectly and came with a nice house salad. Â Our waiter was very attentive without being intrusive.
Review Source:I think we can all agree that the Buffalo tofu wings are incredible. That aside, this place has all the class and appeal of an upscale hoity-toity (sp?) joint, but with none of the attendant snobbery. This tattooed and under-dressed patron and his far more presentable girlfriend were quickly seated and served on a busy Saturday night by a very friendly and attentive staff. Our waiter, a kid home from college, was incredibly friendly, fun, efficient and knowledgable, a lovely surprise to someone who winces at the idea of being waited on by anyone under the age of 22.
Food was great, if a little pricey, but what the hell do you expect from a place where everyone on staff wear is wearing a tie?(I think they were all wearing ties. Don't quote me on that.) Actually, come to think of it, the prices are pretty damn reasonable for the ambience and quality. This place is great. Making a bee line next time I get back upstate. Definitely.
We stumbled across this place randomly while driving through the catskills and really enjoyed it. I'm saying this having been spoiled by access to the NY City metro area but the great beer selection and rather impressive meals definitely won me over. Service was also really great the night I was there. If I could, 3.5 stars would be more accurate.
