Wow...it got a little crazy when we came here. Â Soe guys in better looking clothing than I was wearing were getting out of hand and starting fights with the bouncers. Â The staff should not have been acting the way they were acting either. Â It is bad for business. Â It ended with the dudes in drag, being led outside and the boucners having a screaming match with them.
It is what it is, though. Â The price was great for the ladies because we drank for free and the music wasn't bad at all.
I know alot of people talk about how great this place is and it's super-famous but I've been here a few times hoping the last time was just an off-night and I havent had a good one yet! The buffalo wings are good but the drinks are kinda pricey. The bartenders are nice when you can get their attention.
Every time I've gone there's only about 3 people who pay attention to the band. They might as well just turn the radio on. Last time I was there, a member of the band took a chicken wing off of my friends plate! And to think that's the reason I paid $10 to get in.
Honestly, I was scared to go anywhere in Long Island for fear that my douchebag quota for the year would get filled in one night. However, it's with great enthusiasm that I report that the douchebaggery was kept to a minimum while I attended and there aren't too many Ed Hardy shirts in attendance. Sweet!
I always have fun when I go here. That's what this place is about. Fun. People are here to drink and have fun and mingle. I could do without the $10 entrance fee that all bars tend to be doing nowadays but it is, what it is. To get drunk quicker get the LI Iced Teas. They're actually strong and not watered down. The best nights are on Saturday's when there's a cover band playing for a bit and then the DJ plays. I've had some great dance offs here. It gets real techno heavy after 2am which is when the crowd seems to thin out as well. Coincidence?
Use the bar on the upper level for quicker service and for more seating. All in all, it's a nice change of pace from the city life but....suburbia ain't for this gal.
I've been a consistent patron of The Nutty Irishman in Bay Shore since it's opening in 2003. I'm not a meathead and I hate the south shore, so that says something. However, the Nutty is always a fun place, especially if you can manage to go there in January every year and pick up their Get In Free Tonight (GIFT) card, which ensures you'll pay no cover ever for the rest of the year (can also be used at the Farmingdale location).
The female bartenders are usually pretty hot and the guys are nice, chatty fellows. They can make whatever drink you need, and if you tip well and go to the same bartender you're highly likely to get some buy-backs. Prices aren't terrible and they usually have a drink special you can take advantage of if you're on a budget. They almost always have a semi-decent cover band on weekends, same with the DJ, and although there's a good chance you'll hear some terrible music, you will probably hear some good music too. The cover bands play everything from 70's through 90's rock, modern rock, 80's pop, hip-hop covers, etc. There's plenty of large TV's all over the place so you can catch a game, in HD no less. There's 3 indoor bars (1 down, 2 upstairs) and a very small outdoor bar, although I never go outside since the advent of the smoking ban, it's horrifically smoky out there.
The upstairs area has plenty of couch-seating, bar stools, etc, and it's not as noisy as downstairs, which is a nice touch at a place if you want to enjoy a conversation with someone.
Yes, there will be douche-bags here. This is Long Island, they are everywhere. They are unavoidable! Nutty in particular seems to get a lower density of douche-bags than some other places, so it's tolerable. In addition, although I think bar food sucks in every bar, because it's all frozen, fried garbage, but I've sampled some of the food here and it's not the worst in the world.
So if you've never been, come on down, I recommend Friday nights. Good chance you'll see me there...
I am not the type of girl who goes out clubbing, so I found my night at the Nutty Irishman to be fairly terrifying. Yes, the dancing was fun, and I enjoyed the live band, who played a fun mix of oldies, 80's, 90's and contemporary pop rock music. What I didn't so much enjoy was the group of men hovering around the dance floor, circling around my friends and me like sharks. South Shore Long Island. Eek. So....
Pluses: Plenty of space, including an upstairs room with nice couches. Good music and a sizable dance floor. Not too crowded.
Minuses: $8 cover charge. Tacky yard long glasses of various gross mixed drinks or Coors light. A great place to film a nature documentary about human mating rituals. Seriously. Someone should do that.
