This place is just like Yelp describes; it's A-OK. The food is decent, I've had a few different items and of course, they have a big event on St. Patrick's Day. They have a big bar and also a separate section just for the restaurant, which is nice because you can just go to the bar with adults or bring kids and sit in the restaurant.
The last time I was there the bartender was less than friendly. She also told me very snidely they don't carry 99 Bananas because of the high alcohol content...as I'm staring at the bottle of 101 Wild Turkey right behind her....
I go by the Nutty Irishman now and then. The bartenders know what I like. Hot Nut. Frangelica with warm water. But on my drive-by after the gym the other night, I decided on Cape Cods. Well, I had fun, met nice people, got hit on by 3 men. (Always flattering at the age of 61). When ready to leave, bartender Sue recommended I take advantage of Lisa the gal who sits at the end of the bar, who is always ready to drive one home. I'm so glad I took her up on her option. I called Sue back today to thank her. DUIs are really: embarrassing, expensive, and you have to ride your bicycle for a year! Love those attentive people at Nutty Irishman!
Review Source:Good neighborhood bar. Full of regulars.
The food is pretty heavy, but not bad. Although the cook will always get something wrong, you will not leave hungry!
If you're there for food, and you're lucky, you might get Missy as your server. She most definitely brings the biggest smile, and I always get very good service.
Be nice to the bartenders, trust me.
 Overall, my kind of joint!
i've been coming here since i was in the womb, i even worked here, busing tables! I LOVE THE NUT! I've moved from santa rosa to OC, and every time i go back to visit family, Â I MUST go here! The place is like Cheers, ' Sometimes you wanna go, where everybody knows your name!' the steak salad is to die for, and OMG THE BLEU CHEESE, best ever.. EVER. The fish and chips are amazing. Corn beef and cabbage with the worlds BEST PEA SOUP ever, every tuesday! My parents go here all the time, along with family, so we all know the bartenders, the cooks, even the owner, i've notice some other reviews and some people don't really like it. oh well, more room for me, with friends and the family! Not to mention, all the bartenders do the best pours :) SALUD!
Review Source:I absolutely love this place!! Great local bar! I go here for lunch fairly often. You walk through the kitchen to the bar. Always some regulars hanging out. I think they may have "the best burger" in Santa Rosa!! I always order the "Nugget with Bacon", medium rare. Guess what?? It comes out medium rare!! This is a foreign concept to most burger places. The thing I like most about this burger is the freshness of the meat. It actually has the moistness and texture of a fresh hand pattied burger. The roll is fantastic as well. You must go and try it!!!
Review Source:I've been going to the Nutty Irishman since I was a baby, literally. Â
Sure, it looks pretty ghetto inside and out, but that's part of the charm! Â The place hasn't changed in 20 years and that's what a lot of people really like about it.
As far as the food - it's super good. Â The Irish Jack Potatoes are all my Dad has ordered in his life, and for good reason. Â The Split Pea soup is perfect and so is the Grilled Chicken Breast Salad. Â
They also make the BEST Bloody Mary. Â The bartenders are an array of women, from the old hilarious lady to my personal favorite Chrisy. Â
I hope the Nutty is around for the next 20 years.
When you think about a local bar like the Nutty Irishman, your first thought would be drinks. Â And they have some good ones, full bar and great bartenders to go with it. Â You can sit at the big horseshoe bar and have some fun conversations or pick one of the small tables that surround the bar. Â It can get a bit crowded on busy nights, but everyone is friendly. Â In addition to the fun atmosphere, the food at the Nutty Irishman is great! Â The kitchen may be small but they put out some of the best bar food in town - the onion rings, clam chowder and ribeye special are not to be missed!
Review Source:I don't know what I should have expected at this place, but it was somewhat positive...I guess. I walked a mile to get to this place, so I don't think it was really worth it, but it was the only bar in walking distance from the Ramada, so beggars can't be choosers.
Day 1 of Winter Wineland weekend in the Russian River. Eight wineries, Bear Republic Brewery, and a mile walk. Here I am at the Nutty Irishman. Marched on to this locale with a group of city-folk, and I don't think the locals were thrilled. Nonetheless, we made our place and settled in for a bit of excessive alcohol consumption, especially factoring in the fact that we were planning on hitting 8 more wineries the next day. Somehow, I got to the hazy point, even though I had unknowingly lost my  ATM card beforehand.
What I do remember is that the best bourbon they had there was Maker's Mark. Not that I don't like that, but I think you could at least have some Woodford. Also, the locals were on the pool table the whole night, and they wouldn't budge. Short of a bar brawl, we couldn't have got a game.
Last thing I remember is staggering out of that place, talking to myself, as I made my way back to the Ramada and attempted walk-throughs at all the fast food chains (see McDonalds review). I'm pretty sure I'm going to the Winter Wineland tour next year, and I'm pretty sure I'll be at the Nutty Irishman again, so you can't say my need for excessive alcohol consumption is superseded by my distaste for this place.
I went to this place because the Black Rose was closed. Â It was aight. Â I mean, the place is set up weird. Â It's like a big square building. Â With a HUMONGOUS bar right in the middle. Â And the space between the wall and the bar is just enough for MAYBE two people to stand and talk, which, when it's busy makes for some grumpy bears. Â I kinda didn't like it. Â Also the bartendress was a hussy and dressed like a skank and super irritating and she kinda yelled at me. Â But there was karaoke there and drunk fat people singing which pretty much made my night. Â Â So yah. Â Â I might go back one day if the Black Rose isn't available, but now that I've thought about it some more...I doubt it.
Review Source:The Christmas bears are too cute and a sweet tradition. They used to have a contest to see who could guess the number of bears there were, but last year 14 bears were stolen so they stopped the tradition. I'm not sure why that makes sense since they still have the bears out...but its not for me to figure right?
The food is ok. The service is good, the crowd is totally locals. Not a pub feel at all. Not much of an Irish feel either. You can bring your own wine for a $5 corkage fee. Seems strange considering you're sort of already in a bar. I would go again while up there, but I doubt terribly often
Not your authentic Irish pub..don't be fooled by the name. After 2 years, I finally made a trip to this pub..and well, its really a locals place. It butts up with the adjoining restaurant, doesn't really have a "pub" feel. I guess if I lived nearby, I'd enjoy it as a local...probably not though.
SR has not had a decent Irish/English pub since McGoverns was replaced by the Russian River Brewery. Try Murphys Irish Pub in Sonoma on the Square.
