This was the first time I was happy the Runaway Lounge was closed for Memorial Day Sunday so it forced us to try something new. Â We had drove bye this place several times before and finally decided to try it out. Â They have some unique patrons that were friendly and enjoyed the night outside chatting with some strangers. Â If your going south of the river after leaving be responsible and take a cab; the bartender called one for us and was there within 3-4 minutes, which was good because when we walked out the door there was a cop sitting right next to our car parked in the CVS waiting for people to leave.
Review Source:Of all of the dive bars in North Kansas City, this was the one that I was most nervous about visiting. Â But, as usual, it turned out there was nothing to be nervous about. Â
Oak Tree is a pretty typical old-style neighborhood dive bar & grill. Â It and Helen's JAD actually make good bookends for the Armour corridor in NKC. Â Located behind the CVS, this is also the northernmost entry on the Swift Avenue dive bar row.
The seating area is divided into two main sections, with the V-ish shaped bar in the center forming the divider. Â There are pool tables, various bar games, and at the west end a stage area for live entertainment.
With friendly bartenders and regulars, this is a good, old-school dive bar to unwind in.
