Yum!! Â I am now addicted to this store. Â From breakfast (delish breakfast burrito and coffee) to lunch (must try the muffuletta, grape leaves, and fried chicken sandwich!) to dessert (chocolate, pretzel Rice Krispie treat!!), I can get awesome food, fast and everyone is so friendly. Â The price is great for such quality ingredients!! Â I look forward to trying more!!
Review Source:Delicious but extremely expensive, the Oakville Grocery is one of the only places selling food outside the wineries in Napa.
We got a few by-the-pound cooked food options, a sandwich, a loaf of bread and a small selection of cold cuts. All this somehow added up to $100.97 and luckily it was very good.
The sandwich I had was the organic turkey, it really was very good, but for $13 it really had to be or else the stars would have been a lot lower. The cooked food options we got were half a pound each of mozzarella and tomato salad, cold tri-tip steak cuts and potato salad. These were mediocre and definitely not a 'must have' when visiting the Grocery. The cold cuts however, do not disappoint. The salami is cured to perfection, pork heaven in other terms. The cheeses were okay, not amazing as far as artisan cheeses go but not disappointing at all.
A recommendation isn't required here, as tourists do not have a lot of options when it comes to casual dining in Napa Valley. Way overpriced but luckily very tasty, this tourist trap is worth a visit if you could afford Napa in the first place.
I used to love this place, but I haven't had the best experiences the last few visits. They ran out of bread and couldn't make any sandwiches...seriously! The selection of items has decreased and the prices have increased. My favorite bread sticks that I can buy at Sweetie Pies or Sunshine Market for $3 are $6 at Oakville.
Maybe they will go back to being friendly and offering a variety of quality items that aren't overly expensive? Until then I will be spending my money elsewhere.
Never again, I should have read the reviews. We stopped for lunch here and got 2 sandwiches, 2 small ice teas and a bag of chips for $40???
I got the fancy Turkey sandwich. They all sound so good when you read them on the menu, but I knew something was wrong when I saw that it weighed nothing. The bread was tough like a piece of cardboard, with minuscule portions of turkey and arugula, all this for $12. Safeway has better sandwiches, even Subway.
Shame on you Oakville Grocery, just because you're in Napa you think you can fuck people like this?
Don't be a dumb tourist and fall for this shit, avoid this place.
I was really excited about this place when I walked in. It looked so adorable and delicious.
We were too late for sandwiches, which I understand. It's close to closing, and you have things to do. However, they had some hot and cold food options in the deli case to choose from. The chicken salad looked really great, and so I asked if it would be possible to get some of that on some of the bread that was sitting right next to the case. He handed me the bread, and told me he could give me some chicken salad in a bowl, but he couldn't put the two together.... I get that you're not making gourmet sandwiches, but you can't cut a piece of bread? It just seemed really strange to me.
That being said, the woman at the front selling cheese was amazing. We did end up buying some of that. She really should run the whole store because the way we were treated in the back of the grocery was totally unacceptable. Won't ever be back.
I've been an Oakville Grocery patron for almost 20 years. I recently visited and was dissatisfied. It's officially a tourist trap. I couldn't believe they don't offer tomato for their sandwiches. They no longer have focaccia, pancetta, or pesto mayo. They do have bacon in place of pancetta. They also got rid of the Chinese noodle and pesto pasta salads.
I ordered chicken, bacon, lettuce, light mayo on brioche. Â $13 WoaH! Not worth it. Â (SEE UPLOADED PICTURE)
Why did the Oakville remodel include doubling the kitchen area when you're offering less food options?
I want the old #19 sandwich back. If anyone at Oakville has worked there as long as I've been a customer.
We had a tough day...
We tried stopping here for a sandwich and a bottle of wine.. unfortunately we were too late for sandwiches but we grabbed a bottle of wine and a few slices of salami.
The shop was closing up around 3:30, so we went out back to one of the picnic tables and tried to make the best of our day.
All in all their wine was ok, not great and we could have really used a sandwich because we were starving. The good lesson is: never wait too long to stop and grab something to eat while roaming around Napa.
A Napa Valley staple that recently got a facelift inside - and it turned out great!
You must come here at least once in your times up to the Napa Valley. Â The inside got a major renovation and it's much easier to get around and actually fit in the store. Â They've got everything from gourmet desserts to wine to delicious sandwiches. Â Come here to pick up something to eat in-between wineries!
It's a popular stop for tourists so watch out for that but of course once you get your food you can eat outside in the outdoor seating area.
My favorite sandwich here is the chicken and gruyere with bacon and cartelized onions. It's awesome. Definitely pricy, but in Napa Valley, don't expect discount prices. It's great to come here, get my fav sandwich and a glass of Chardonnay and go out t the picnic area at the rear and enjoy the sunshine and views of vineyards and wineries.
Review Source:A great place to stop for picnic fare when you are out wine-tasting. I had a chipotle chicken quesadilla and a pesto salad - weird mix, but it gave me a chance to try a couple of different things. My friends had different salads and sandwiches, but we all enjoyed our food.
We ended up eating at a table in the back after an unsuccessful attempt to find someplace else in the area where we could enjoy a bottle of wine with our food. It was a nice spot, so if that's what you want, stay where you are!
The reviewers saying that it was slow and expensive for what you get are completely correct. It is very tasty, though, so if that's what you're in the mood for, just take a deep breath and wait it out.
Really, this place has some interesting items and it is a cute stop in wine country, but SERIOUSLY, everything it seems, costs more then fifteen bucks. It's like a fifteen dollar store. Mustard? 16$. Olive tapenade? 17$. Small box of cheese bread sticks (Grissini) $17. It's almost comical.
Enjoy the store, just know what you're in for.
This place is really expensive and the sandwich making is very slow. Â It gets really crowded around lunch time. Â They make the same kind of sandwich all at once instead of made to order, which takes a long time if they are waiting for the same order of sandwich to stack up. Â The items from the individual wineries are marked up here and you can spend an easy $20-30 per person on lunch with sandwich, side, chips and drink. Â
Service is nice but super slow. Â Be prepared for a wait.
I love this place. My boyfriend and I picked up cheese and bread and other fun snack items for our drive that day.
They have epic sandwiches and gluten free bread. They now also have breakfast sandwiches if you need something before you go about your day. I highly recommend either the chicken sandwich or the turkey sandwich, and any of the cheese and meats you want to have to snack on throughout the day.
They always have a great offering of gourmet chips, dips, and spreads, and a good wine selection and beer options for when you get wined out.
4 stars for the shopping - great olive oils, salts, vinegars. Â And cute stuff with bunnies on it (Oakville Grocery logo). Â Clean restroom.
3 stars for the food - ordered a sandwich that happened to have some sort of fig relish on it. Â There was so much fig relish on it that it overpowered the rest of the sandwich, and made the consistency really off with all of the little fig seeds. Â Lighten up on the fig spread!
Awesome sandwiches, super-slow service. After I ordered my amazing chicken, bacon and gruyere hoagie, I waited nearly 15 minutes to receive and pay for it. 15. That's a long time when you're hungry and in a rush.
However, the staff was super-sweet and friendly, and the sandwich was truly delicious. I also grabbed a handful of the Himalayan sea salt caramels - these are not to be missed.
My friend got the fried chicken sandwich with pickles, lettuce and some yummy mustardy dressing that was far superior to my own, and given the chance I would get this one over the bacony mess - it also too approximately 1/5 the time to be prepared. The prices are steep - as is to be expected in Napa - I ended up paying nearly $20 for the sandwich, caramels and a bottle of water. Whatevs - it was worth it.
We stopped here for coffee and tea after a 5 hour hike on Mt. St. Helena, and all I can say is that we are making this a part of our wine country/hiking trip moving forward. Â They literally have everything from fresh prepared food to grab and go, picnic items such as cheese, crackers, spreads (from local farms), and even offer wine tasting. Â
Next time I will be trying their sandwiches and that tasty beet salad I saw while browsing the store!
Yum!
You'll drive by this place and think oh my, how quaint, how cute....I implore you-keep driving, Â It is a huge tourist trap, a complete rip-off, Â The goods for sale are nothing special-no better than your local Whole Foods. Â But the prices are inflated to the point of insulting. Â The two "employees" behind the counter couldn't be bothered, well for anything. So fellow yelpers, keep on driving back to reality. Â Don't support this ridiculous excuse for a business.
Review Source:This grocery store is absolutely perfect for anyone in Napa looking for a quick bite, a gift basket, dessert or even cute souvenirs.
I especially loved the selection of cheeses, the deli sandwiches and the chocolates. Lots of items are locally sourced and everything is of great quality. In fact, I heard that whenever she's in town, this is Martha Stewart's go to grocery store!
I love this place!!! Charming and conveniant, it is a great option to expensive local dining. Â They have a wonderful selection and although the sandwiches are pricey, they are fresh and delish; worth every penny! Â
Why not five stars? Â Cold and snippy service from young girls who don't seem very happy to be there or grateful for their jobs.
Very nice!!! Â Great place to stop and grab food in between wine tasting, picnic tables and restroom facilities available too. Â Atmosphere is quaint and charming, as well as the food presentation, makes you want to buy everything on sight! Â And to top it all, there is a wide choice and variety of food to purchase, and really good food too, cheeses, deli meat, pate`, crackers, baguette, etc. Â Have a sweet tooth? Â Want some coffee? Â Wine? Bottled water? Â Yes and yes and yes! Â A definite must stop place.
Review Source:Sandwiches are all $10-$16.
If you have not had a sandwich where every ingredient is fresh you need to give this spot a try. Â The Roast beef sandwich was especially wonderful with a generous serving of meat. Â Also everything in Napa cost a grip of cash so $10 for a meal is pretty good.
Definitely worth a stop especially if you need a quick bite to eat between wineries.
I love this place! Â This is a go to place to have lunch or enjoy a break in between wineries. Â The food is excellent and the selection of unique beverages is impressive. Â I love the quaint charm of the place and the odds and ends that they sell here. Â They even have a coffee counter and serve ice cream for those not really seeking a meal.
I will have to warn you that it is really pricey. Â A sandwich, two drinks and some bread from Model Bakery ran us about $45. Â
My advice is to stay away on holiday weekends when this place is packed with wall-to-wall people. Â It is definitely a place you want to walk around and check out without feeling rushed or having tons of people trying to get the deli guys attention.
There's something so comfortable about a sandwich. Growing up, my Dad packed most of my lunches, and there was always a sandwich inside, whether it was PB&J, salami, or some veggie sandwich during my teenage veggie years. Biting into a sandwich on the playground in the midday sun reminded me that I was loved and cared for by the best Dad ever.
I've had a lot of sandwiches since my packed lunch days, but they aren't the same when they're made by a stranger. After a long day of driving the Northern California backroads in a convertible with my sweetie and wine tasting, we needed a hearty sandwich to keep on keeping on. I think I literally felt the Earth move as my father rolled over in the figurative grave (or, more accurately, a strong gust of wind blew past), when we paid what we did for these sandwiches, but thems the brakes for quality food in Wine Country. And these sandwiches were wonderful. I had pole caught tuna, he had turkey with fig preserves, and a token gift of 'bacon crack' in appreciation for my bacon lover friend who brought us together. Oh, and espresso to keep me going, which was very well made. All told, a pricey little picnic, but we savored and appreciated every morsel. I had to excuse myself before I geeked out over all of the jams, confections, oils, vinegars, salts, and myriad foodinista delights. This place is dangerous, especially with the earthquakes and tornadoes that might occur when your prudent loved ones learn what you're doing ;)
I'm not sure you can go wine tasting and not get a few picnic items from Oakville Grocery. Pretty sure it's a rule in the fine print, right?
Great selection of sandwiches & sides and they have the best plastic wine glasses (stemless) with their lil rabbit logo. They're the best for picnics!
Wish I could head back there tonight :)
After a long bike ride in the heat, we were so dehydrated and were so grateful to find this grocery store. We came here for some refreshments. Saw a sign that says ice cold beer & lemonade but the stand was empty so i guess they either sold out or the hours were over. So we go into the store.
It's a grocery store /coffee shop. The prices were outrageous, but i guess that's supply/demand for ya. Browsed around but didnt' see too many snacks. Deli sells alot of snacks, sooo overpriced. After guzzling down my beverage i went back inside as i felt i needed a snack. I ordered a veggie sandwich. There was nobody waiting. The grilled veggies were all pre-made. i paid for it and went back and it took MORE THAN FIFTEEN-TWENTY minutes to assemble a sandwich in which all the ingredients were already pre made???? Not to mention it was not cheap. When i bit into my sandwich i found the cheese unmelted & the grilled veggies all to be cold! The bread was lukewarm and maybe 1-2 pcs of the veggies were warm. Not sure what it was--either the panini grill wasn't commerical quality or maybe they turned it off ..but does it take THAT LONG to warm up???
3.5
My friends and I were on our way to Frank Family Vineyards and stopped by this grocery to grab some goodies for a picnic. This is a very cute market with a great selection of quality cheeses and meats. I also saw many delectable desserts and candies, but refrained when I saw the prices!! We selected two cheeses, a baguette, salami and nuts and it came out to $60+ O.O! Had I known it was going to cost that much I would have brought some goodies from home!
A Napa Valley landmark that has stood the test of time...Great place to grab meats, cheeses and other snacks for a picnic. Wine is also available here as well, but you're probably better off going to one of the nearby wineries that have very charming picnic grounds.
Items from Model Bakery up the road in St. Helena are available here as well, but at a marked up price!?
Parking and crowds here can be an issue, so get in, get out, and get on with your day...ALOHA!!!
YELP 365 CHALLENGE-(351/365) "One of Napa's Many Landmarks"
This is a traditional first stop for me when I go to Napa.
Last time we were here, we got an order of tortellini pasta salad and chicken salad. Love the pasta salad but the chicken salad was kind of weird. It was like we were not certain if we like it or not up to the last bite. It was definitely a palate adventure tho. There was some sort of undecipherable spice in it. The bf thinks it's licorice which I'm not particularly fond of...
They got a lot other cool stuff. Love the outside stall addition. Place is a bit pricey but so is the rest of wine country.
Used to be my favorite place to get food for a wine tasting picnic. Â Ever since the change there are no more sandwiches or deli meats. Â Â Positive it it's more spacious now but there are less items
Don't know who thought that would be a good idea but i won't be returning, nor will my friends until this is fixed
Ps I'm a local guy who would go in here weekly
If you're headed to a winery like Sinskey that allows picnics with outside food, hit Oakville and grab a sandwich, or get cheeses, cured meats, crackers, and other noshy goodness and head that-away. Don't forget a sparkling water. They sell wine and beer, but if you're tasting, water is probably a better choice. You'll end up happier that you can still taste toward the end of the day.
You can always eat outside at any of the picnic tables and soak in the great view. Unless it's summer, in which case Oakville gets pretty covered up by the tour-bus-bachelorette-girls-with-matching-Âbridesmaid's-outfits-and-one-gal-in-a-veil crowd. But they also do a cute little farm stand during the warm weather months so that's something fun you don't want to miss. My fave sandwich is the Applewood-smoked ham and brie. Nom nom nom nom...
If you get in and there's a line all the way around the counter, it's okay. t's totally worth the line, which moves quickly. Get in line, look around at all the pretty people and the cool, local NV merch such as soaps, olive oil, etc. Once you get up to the counter, you can order, and then you wind your way around the counter back to the front and the register to pay. By the time you've paid, your sandwich is ready, so it's not as bad as it looks due to their smart set up.
I have always loved the Oakville Grocery...both Oakville and Healdsburg. Â Was so sad when the one in Palo Alto closed. Â Anyway, this location along Hwy 29 is a must hit as you go down the winery trail. Â A lot of history here and the staff is always incredibly friendly and wonderful.
Was very surprised and sad to hear yesterday that Grady is gone, he was really wonderful as was his predecessor Cyndi. Â Very happy that Shannon is still there though...she is always awesome!
It was super crowded here yesterday and the season hasn't even begun yet. Â That really says a lot...people love this place!
Incredible deli, fantastic gourmet selections, I always feel like a kid in a candy store here. Â A definite must stop for any trip to the wine country.
